My fiancee is now interested in mmos. It started off with me showing her how to play WoW, since I still had time left on my account before it expired for good. It took her a while to get the hang of movement, but now she's rather proficient at it. Then I introduced her to Vindictus. We both seem to prefer that style of combat. Unfortunately, everytime we go to play, I end up literally falling asleep between dungeons, and she won't play without me.
So here's what I want- an action combat mmo, that's also free (like Vindictus) but that also has a community, and a world (unlike Vindictus).
There has to be a community because she needs to be able to make some connections with other players to have a reason to play without me, and it has to be free 'cause we're on a tight budget at the moment. The action combat thing is a preference, and can be replaced with anything rather newb friendly, or less combat dependent (yes, it is easier for my newb fiancee to play the style that is also sometimes refered to as skill based, go figure). And what I mean by "a world" is a rather loose term for anything that won't make me fall asleep. Something to grab my attention while I'm playing. Something to make me want to keep playing. Something dynamic. Not something like a virtual job.
Red: mandatory. Green: prefered. Blue: left to your interpretation. |

DCUO seems like your kinda thing? Spend $5 in the shop and you will be upgraded to get the premium account, with expanded storage and other cool stuff. Plus whatever you buy for the $5
It isn't the most interesting MMO out there, but it fits your list of wants. How much WoW could a WoWhater hate, if a WoWhater could hate WoW? |

You sure ask for a lot and then ask for it for f2p. I'd try Runes of magic and if you two play together you might not have to spend anything...maybe. To keep from falling asleep i'd say City of Hero's.

Action MMorpgs with a persistent world are few and far between, F2P... Well those simply don't exist on this side of the world. The best you're going to find are things like Vindictus, C9 (unreleased), Dragon Nest, Elsword, Dragonica all of which have some form of instanced combat. As for keeping your attention, these are F2P games. The development focus doesn't go into content so much as it goes into varying ways to get you pay into a cash shop. Keep that in mind.

Originally posted by mmoooo Everquest 2 is free to play. You will have some limitations as a free to player but almost all the game world is open for free. Also, if you spend 10 bucks on the cash shop you reach the silver account status that lets you improve your charac ter a little. -=AlaKraM=- |

Originally posted by mmoooo We did. What your asking for really doesn't exist at the moment, especially the "free" part. Also most communities are not perfect and suck quite bad to be honest.
One poster did suggest DCUO which has an Action paced style like you asked for, is f2p, has a decent community. Did you read what he said?
Other then that, not much of what your asking for is around. I'd wait for Guild Wars 2 which is what your asking for and is F2P and is quite easy to play, its "casual friendly" lets say. Other then that, even sub fee mmos, there is not many around, maybe TERA? It has really action based combat, but it can get quite complex.
Anyways good luck. |

Originally posted by FearGX Well GW2 is not free to play. It doesnt needs a sub to be played, but the box needs to be bought. But even like that, it's a good sugestion. -=AlaKraM=- |

I'd also reccomend DCUO. It's fun, free, action based, and has a nice world. Another free open world game would be Fallen Earth, though it's a lot more difficult to play because of its learning curve. Still, the community in the game is fantastic and help with everything. |

So gw2 will be action combat? I wasn't sure on that one, but if it is sounds like a good match. |

GW2 is hotbar driven, for all I've heard, but it is free past the box price. I'd suggest Fallen Earth, it's about as action-driven as say, DDO... only with guns as well. Maybe APB: Reloaded, but it's community is terrible - though, the customization totally adds to the flavor of it all. Also DCUO, you really shouldn't discount that one.
