NCsoft owns Anet. Anet wont see a penny until NCsoft gives it to them. It's NCsofts game. 

You have this backwards my good sir/madam. Well I wouldn't say its quite "backwards"...They see the money at the same time. Arenanet is not 'owned' by Ncsoft nor do they ever plan to sell their souls to the devil, as it were.

I think we should straighten this out for you since you seem to be a tad bit confused. As many have stated before Ncsoft has no part in the development process of Guild Wars 2. Nor does Ncsoft  see a huge portion of the revenue from the game. In fact the cut that Ncsoft gets is actually pretty small. They're a publisher not a communist nation. If I had to gander at a guess I'd say its something like 30% or so, leaving 70% for Arenanet to rub their johnsons on.

Then what does Ncsoft do for Anet? and why are they even necessary for Anet's success. For one Ncsoft is one of the few 'successful' publishers of mmo's on a global scale. Sure there are other publishers, but very few others span the entire world from east to west. Most other publishing firms are based in either NA, EU, or in Asia somewhere(Korea) and make contracts with publishers in the other two sectors to pass the game off to for localization. Think of how Frogster is a big publisher in EU...

 

Ncsoft has offices all over the world. They do, however, make a differentiation between east and west; calling their home offices Ncsoft and all offices in NA/EU 'Ncwest'. The plaync label is used mostly for marketing purposes and advertisement.

In most cases when a game is published by Ncsoft they are merely contracting out a development studio. Arenanet has been with Ncsoft for so long that they have a long standing contract and are seen as a 'subsidiary' when this isn't entirely true. Arenanet is still very much independent and could, if they so chose, go to a different publisher like EA(madness) or Zenimax.

Refusing to play the game because it's published by Ncsoft is like saying "I won't order the final season of my favorite anime because its published by funimation and they published some anime that i really hated..." or "I won't eat at this resteraunt, because my arch enemy works at the location across town."

Also on the topic of customer support...Most game developers are responsible for their game's support. They are tasked with hiring a support team and setting up their offices across the country or countries. Aion had bad support because the Aion Team (the actual name of the team that made the game. Creative I know) wasn't very quick about hiring their support staff. They were a bit overwhelmed by the immediate success of the game and its inherent issues and it suffered from then on.

Arenanet, if you played the original Guild Wars you would know, had excellent support. You got a response quickly, they were usually very informative in their responses, and did a very (VERY) good job with managing the community and listening to their opinions.

This is most evident in Guild Wars 2.

Yeah you are right. But unlike EA and Activision seems NC soft only to care when something is wrong, as long as ANET gets in money they don´t mess with it. You don´t kill the duck that lays golden eggs just because you want a quick snack (well, unless you are EA or Activision).

It is kinda like Sunzus recommendation that politicians should leave warfare to their generals and butt out.

One of my favorite MMOs was Anarchy Online. Funcom has driven that game right into the ground. Probably because AoC's early lack of success took resources away from AO. TSW is their current "All hands on deck" project. EA hasbasically put  WAR into maintence mode and now it seems SWTORwill be joining it in stagnation. I will NEVER EVER buy an MMO from EA and probably not Funcom either. Because I know what's in store for the future of any MMO EA produces. Funcom...well, they are Funcom and I question how poorly FC maintains their titles.

Seriously? It amazes me what lengths and what points people are coming up with to dislike or to put down this game.

It doesn't make ANY sense to waste your time coming in a games forum and posting things like that.

Most of all since it's not a concern that has to do with the game, it's the ops hate towards one of the oldest and best mmos developers/publishers around.

I admit that AION was a game I passed but I have tested and played all the other games NCSoft produced or published and wasn't dissappointed by them at all(unlike other publishers or developers).

Okay fine OP.  Dont play the game even if its absolutely fantastic out of some unexplained hatred for NCSoft.  

Of course this is the first thread Ive ever read where the OP claims even if the game is really good, he still wont play it.  Beats me. 

The funny thing about this tread is that as long as GW2 is considered a future success, people will want to forget that it's owned by NCsoft. If (in the off chance that it happens) the game is actually bad, everybody will remember that this is an NCsoft game and how easterners have no clue about how to make a fun game.

Fanboyism is funny like that.

It's also quite hypocritical for people to find it fine to give TSW no chance because it comes from Funcom, while excusing GW2 despite coming from NCsoft (and also calling the OP a fool for being blindly negative towards a company, due to past reputation).

I hate NCSoft too but I simply love ArenaNet. Diablo, Guild Wars and WoW are the three games I've played for sooooo many hours. I think I played GW for over 2k hours, it was that fun.

Well, I never followed TR's development so I honestly have no idea what happened there. By AA you mean AA2?

Richard Garriot happened to Tabula Rasa if you want the short version. but it was an NCSoft property. It started out as a fairly interesting sounding fantasy title, then did a 180 and turned into a sci-fi MMO shooter. It actually had a few good ideas (npc monsters invading and attacking quest hubs, and players had to defend them) but fell horribly short.

Auto Assault was basically Mad Max: The MMO. You spent 99% of your time in a car, running around blowing up other cars and driving over zombies with spiked tires. It is a testament to how badly NCSoft handled this game that anything tied to a sentence as aweosme as "blowing up cars and running over zombies with spiked tires" managed to fail so horribly.

Although they're also responsible for Lineage and Lineage II, two of the most populat MMOs of all time (in Asia..), City of Heroes (after Cryptic dropped the ball) Guild Wars 1, and a skillion other titles I've forgotten. They're not a bad publisher. Not like EA anyway.

Saying GW2 is owned by NCsoft is not bashing.... A lot of people here don't want to hear it, but it's not bashing.

While you are evidently being sarcastic, it would be sad if a person who is being able to follow their principles, over their own short-term possible enjoyment, wouldn't be missed. We need more persons like him who say no when companies go too far. Otherwise we'll keep seeing more features like RMAH was in Diablo III, in the future.

This is true.  Not everybody will enjoy GW2.  There's NO game that everybody will enjoy.  Games simply don't work that way.

This must suck when it comes to buying games, because honestly, there's so many reasons to dislike so many game companies, and NCSoft is hardly the worst offender for unlikable game company.  Activision and EA come to mind, just off hand, and if you don't play any games that either of them make money off of, that's a pretty huge chunk of games right there.

That's precisely why his actions would be so admirable. It is easy to be generous when it doesn't hurt, but harder to do so when it does hurt.
