Are you saying the hackers don't need the password of the account they attack or they don't need their own account/password. If it's the former, prove it. Blizzard has said that no account compromise that's been reported has not used the users login and password to gain access. Not a single one.  If it's the latter, of course they don't need to buy the game to hack you. DUH.

Actually. they specificly hack frozen acounts alot.

happened to me asswell tho he could not reach my credticard the guy actually put in his own.

i think i wasnt hacked but my acount was more or less sold to some clueless guy. (and yes i stil was hacked because they knew my pass and shit.)

luckely i had a few friends wich went omg your online. when they guy diddnt respond or responded in a non normal way they quickly called me and we dealt with it.

ordered a couple authenticators the next day. We have no problems now :)

 No. the account doesn't need to be active for them to hack it and make off with stuff your characters have. The guy that hacked my account decided to clear the G Bank while he was at it. Since my guild leader was a RL friend he never took me off the list of people with full access. While I don't claim to know how it works on their side, my account was reactivated and the payment method was changed when they did it so they paid for a month of service. I guess they got more than that off the account and Gbank. I can't speak for the person you quoted, but seeing as how the same thing happened to me I can tell you that it happens.

 Most commonly they use a game time card or a stolen credit card for WoW.

The poll is useless and no information it can gather is usefull to the situation. There's a science to accurate poll data. A science that you don't posess any knowledge about it would seem.

 Well yeah but accuracy isn't what it's for. He's trying to find out what kind of information in the packets is being used to find a weakness. My belief is none of them because that's not what's happening  but it's a place to start looking.

Been playing since it is out did not get hacked.

Have played WoW since vanilla, but recently quit just before Diablo3 came out and never been hacked.

No i dont use anti-virus, windows provide me with everything i need. ( i know right ) Even i dont understand it. no trojan no virus or anything like that. edited this part for clarity : ( when i do scan my PC with a anti-virus from a friend, from time to time there is nothing ).

Of course i dont use thing like facebook or any variant like it. I dont go chat on msn or yahoo. and i dont lend my account to anyone. not even for a night.

A friend of mine tipped me off that this usually happens around the 6 month mark.  Sure enough, exactly 6 months to the day after I froze my account I had the opportunity to check and I had been compromised.  After working with Blizzard to restore my account I found it was that very day that the account had been re-activated.  Ironically, I got a free month since the perp payed already, the bonuses from recruit a friend since he used it, and a free authenticator.

I can only assume I was not a victim of a keylogger or I would have surely fell victim while I was still actively logging into the account.  This is one of the few sites I've actually registered with and don't actively participate in any online communities.  I do believe Blizzards "system" is secure, however, it all seems a little odd.

What I put on myself, is that I used to use the same username/password on all of the MMOs that I've played.  Who's to say that is wasn't Sony's fault that my Blizzard account was compromised. :)  Seriously though, that'd still be my fault.

Friendly advice: Expert hackers target pc's exactly like yours, there are many many such pc's out there, and your's is not special or hidden (it wont affect me mentality right :))  for the sake of £30 a year, get yourself an anti virus.  You dont need to use software like facebook etc to get a virus, they can be pushed onto your pc  easily if you do not have controls in place.

The thing is not that people click here and there even in emails and gets hacked. 

A hacker way of doing thing is way more easy then that it is call social hacking.

You make friends with people lots of them. Gain there trust, then hack away.

Your friends and familly are the one's most of the time doing it. You let someone try the game. so 2 things happends you give them your login info, or key it in yourself but in front of them.  This is when you get hacked.

Email address = easy to remember specially now that everyone use them. so basically i only need to remember what you type in for the password.

Or you buy service from anonymous biz that sells gold or leveling. You think they wiped your data after they use it . Guess what happends next.

As you guys can see not everyone click or visit every little site there is. It happends inside your own home or with family or friends.

Well at least this is my view on it. when people wants something they can go to extreme mesure to get what they want

What is your thought? I am beginning to believe you. There is no common demoinator at all.

Going to throw it out and it is a far fetched ridiculous though but I think that someone has tapped a line in the main trunk. They are getting some data and able to intercept enough once in awhile to break things.

 There's not a computer on earth that could  handle the traffic without causing massive latency all across the internet. Not to mention to have any chance it would have to be very near the Blizzard servers and they're scattered all over the Earth. The problem has no regionality.  There's no man in the middle.

oh hell no. lol :D i am not that foolish. Apparantly 2 years later they used a cc  to hack my account and perform numerous trades. Thats what blizzard said. Course they said it was my comps fault..even though i was on my 2nd comp at that time.

Still hacking Miagi?  lol  jk  D3 just feels like a money grab to me  IMO....

Im sure i got hacked because i used the same username and password on a gaming website or other free to play MMO.
