I'm thinking about buying D3 tomorrow, and then the fear of picking a underpowered class. Is barbarian strong at high levels? Any kinda of -DONT DO THIS! advice? Thanks in advance =] |

Well, melée classes are having a hard time in inferno, especially in the later acts.
Monks, specifically, seem to be pigeon-holed for a tanking role and not very useful as dps in a group setting. My monk is only act 1 inferno so I don't know what the later levels are like, but I have a solo dps build that is working very well. It focuses on procs and buffs that raise my dps significantly while still wearing survivability gear. The thing is, wizards are able to reach much higher damage numbers by building entirely for dps. So in inferno, melée classes have to focus on survivability. It's a byproduct of being in close and getting trapped in the poop mobs put on the floor that kills you super fast. They also have to kite a lot, which is a weird way to play a melée class. Ranged classes are kiting too, but they have a much easier time of it because they are ranged. My advice is this, if you don't want to have to get creative with your build and strategies, pick a ranged class. You will have higher dps and an easier time kiting while still doing damage. If you want an inherent challenge built in to the class. Go monk or barb. Monks and barbs feel really OP at lower difficulties but get tougher later on. Now, all that being said, if you like melée classes, do it. I don't think they are underpowered. They just have different challenges. Melée combat in this game is extremely satisfying and fun. No man controls my destiny... especially not one who attacks downwind and stinks of garlic. |

Yes I would just play what you have fun with. This a Blizzard we are talking about there, there will be plenty of nerfs and buffs. My friends have told me that the barbarian does have a tough time at the higher difficulties currently, but that may change in a months time, you never know. Just play what you enjoy :)

Most people will say melee is underpowered but honestly they just expected to be able to hack their way through the game and didnt get what they wanted. I'd say right now each class is fairly balanced with its pro's and cons. Played-Everything |

I've just seen a vid of a barb who beat Diablo in Inferno with 5 stacks of Nephalem Valor. The classes are fine. Some people, of course, have their preference. Kiting has its advantage, etc. But you shouldn't believe classes are underpowered when people barely started looking at the game... |

Barbarian may or may not be gimp at the highest difficulties (I'm only up to Act 3 Nightmare with mine) but I can tell you for a fact that it is an incredibly fun class to play. |

Theres no OP/UP classes, its not a pvp game. Some classes are more difficult, some are less forgiving with their builds (one build might offer a very easy run while others are considerably more difficult to play with) Demon Hunter and Barbarian seem the most straight forward. I play Witch Doctor, a class that apparently has one specific playstyle and build that is incredibly easy and other builds are incredibly hard to play with, seems a very kite and CC heavy class but enjoyable and the voice over sounds like the guy from ace ventura 2...the tribal host guy or w/e Personally i think Demon Hunter is the easiest, range high dps, you kill them before they touch you..nothing very complex about it either single target or aoe. Barbarian you have to be in the mobs face and have to deal with their aoe's and ground effects (ground effects were the only thing to kill me thus far on my WD...)

I've played a barb to A1 Inferno. Some of the elite packs in Hell can be a real PITA. I died way more than I'd care to admit. The later bosses required some temporary skill changes but I found the challenge fun. I'm definitely undergeared, outside of my weapon, to be fighting in inferno.
It's not my goal to be godly ASAP and since I like the Barb playstyle I have no regrets. I found a certain rumor to be true about barbs, if you join public games in A3/A4 Hell people of other classes will leave the game pretty quick sometimes. I definitely found soloing FAR easier than grouping though so I didn't really care.
I think people should play the class they like and if they hit a roadblock they should feel free to roll a second class that may handle Inferno better. I'm tempted to just spend my gold short term on permanent upgrades such as stash space and jeweler upgrades as needed. I figure items in the gold AH should get cheaper each month as more and more people reach inferno. |

I have been taking my time so I can try each class. I have to say, I have not seen a class more or less powered. They have their pros and cons. Personally, I am digging the monk, wizard and demon hunter, which, for me anyway is kind of odd, because traditionally I have always favored the martial classes... Love hittin' crap with a huge ass weapon... That Guild Wars 2 login screen knocked up my wife. Must be the second coming! |

I've died more with my wizard. Doesn't seem to have the stamina as much as other classes. |

Its situational. Some monsters give ranged classes hard time other are though for melee. But in multiplayer it all comes together |

If you are going for inferno the tier list is pretty much this:
God Tier: Demon Hunter & Wizard OK Tier: Witch Doctor Don't-even-bother-unless-you-really-have-no-life Tier: Barbarian & Monk.
I have 75k~~ dps DH and it takes me about an hour to run Siegebreaker (get 5 stacks and kill the boss for rares). Inferno isn't hard, it's stupidly time consuming. My hint is to play all the classes to 60 and kill butcher on inferno, a lot of things are going to change in D3 and if they don't, inferno is not really worth the effort. |

This. A hundred times this. DH is the strongest. If you want an easy time, roll DH. But as people have said, its do-able with any class if you have the perserverance. Waiting for: GW2 |

Originally posted by ltdingle It's not easy even with DH. If you are going to attempt inferno I suggest you are prepared to pour in some serious hours in the game and coming the RMAH even money. |
