Well, folks... it may have been missed by the staff at MMORPG.com, but it is in fact the forth anniversary of Age of Conan. Funcom are indeed celebrating with a special gift...The Royal Dungeon Adventure Pack
Anyway, AoC brings back memories for me as I played it on Launch and did massive siege and end raids. I think the game suffered at launch from bugs, including some players being trapped in zones for days and some of the crafting didn't work, as examples that spring to mind. There were also gameplay mechanics issues.
Nonetheless, Funcom did patch the game over time, though they lost most of their players and the game is now, I think niche, and free-to-play. Still, it has a lot of content, and people do play it.
Feel free to comment of Age of Conan now it is 4 years old... |

Now thats interesting, "birthday" of games. I can hardly believe AoC is 4 years old, though. I would have estimated 2 years at most ... |

I remember playing at beta and launch aswell, I lasted untill level 50 or something I think..? Just did not work for me; loved the open world and danger of PvP but production values were a bit low and content quite sub par and buggy. Perhaps I should take another peek now.. |

As a gift the royal dungeon pack is quite pathetic. It only has real value to new people who are trying it. Old players without a sub have little to no use for it, since it are all low level dungeons. A real gift that could have made people want to resub again would have been a permanent pass to some of the godslayer zones. This feels just as bad as their first year birthday party in front of conan's castle. They made a big deal out of it and in the end it was supposed to be a player made party. |

If you are a veteran of AoC there is little reason (from the standpoint of a "for profit" company) to worry about rewarding you for your commitment during an anniversary. On the otherhand at a time of significance it IS important (once again as a "for profit" business) to try and stir up new ways to entice new customers. Like it or not, this is how capitalism works. |

Happy Birthday!
When the game launched it was unplayable for me outside Tortage, but when I came back maybe a couple years later it was vastly improved and very playable. I enjoyed my time while I was there. Loved the artwork and world, and the feeling that I was actually playing an mmo for adults. |
