We recently finished our first closed beta test, and we’re now ready to hold progressively larger events. In February we’ll invite select press to participate in beta testing, and in March and April we’ll aggressively ramp up the size of our beta test events so that many of you will have a chance to participate. And of course, this all leads to the release of Guild Wars 2 later this year.~Mike O'Brian

OK this satement was made in Late Januarty from this blog http://www.arena.net/blog/dragon

Do you think they have "ramped up beta events for  March and Apil? No we can all se if anything they have come to a screeching hault...what does this mean about the developement of the game and it's state? Did we pre-purchase too soon?

Is ArenaNet going back on their words?

No
Yes
Things come up it is acceptable
They should have held off on pre-purchase until they were more sure of things.
BWE's should be taken out of pre-purchase advertisements of all MMO's.

The first open BWE was a huge ramp up for them. I think you are reading a bit too much to an old annoncement here, pick one of the more recent ones please :)

As almost anyone here that played the game can tell you people are very satisfied on current state of the game.

2 Large Scale press betas, 2 stress tests and 1 public beta   isnt enough beta for you?  Not sure what you were expecting, but that is pretty ramped up if you ask me

The way mmo's were: Community, Exploration, Character Development, Conquest.

The way mmo's are now : Cut-Scenes,Cut-Scenes, Linear Story, Cut-Scenes...

This is my OP and I have presented the topic as I feel fit and if you would like to add a link with updates made by the originally quoted person then feel free to do so. If they are twitter updates and facebook I am not interested as I do not go there to get my news..I go to the Offcial Arena Net Blogs TY. You are assuming you know how I voted in the poll and you do not so please do not start a troll fest on here.

In March and April they had ONE BWE and have postponed May's for technical difficulties.....so paid customers have experienced one BWE and one Stress test...is that "ramped up in your opinion"? In a Factual world compared to Febuary beta press events which were closed to public please state the "ramped up" events dates and times so we can have an honest dialogue.

I don't think so. What would be the point of having beta's all the time if you don't have new clients/servers to test?

My guess is that the hardware upscaling and/or clientchanges they want to implement since laste BWE took them more time then expected. Their confirmation that there wasn't going to be a 2nd BWE last weekend of May was quite late. So I expect that there will be a new BWE quite soon (1 or 2 weeks).

They said they were going to ramp up the beta events, not BWEs.

And well these are the dates of the beta events:

Closed Beta Event, invitation only, december 16, 2011

Closed Beta Event, invitation only, february 17, 2012

Closed Beta Event, press and invitation from the pool of people registered, March 23, 2012

Then after pre-purchases:

First stress test, invitation from the pool of people registered, April 13th, 2012

BWE1, Open to prepurchasers and whoever got beta keys from other sources, April 27th, 2012

Second stress test, Open to prepurchasers, May 14th, 2012

Source: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Beta

(note, I'm not counting the on-going closed beta)

So, basically they went from 3 tests in 4 months (december-march) to 3 (including the stress tests) in 2 months (April - May) with the notice that BWE2 was delayed to deploy extra hardware and the intent to do 1 a month, subject to change as it did this time. In my opininon, it looks like it's starting to ramp up.

What can men do against such reckless hate?

Nice  arguement and I appreciate your attempt but it is moot you know why? The paying customer has only been alloud one expereince of the game in beta form Since this announcement was made in January ...that does feel ramped up to the people that count ....and no one can argue that in anyway...you also just basically proved that for me...by showing there was only ONE ANNOUNCED Beta even during the Months of April and March which are when he states they will be ramped up. Only one "pre-purchase only beta event since the pre-purchases begin for paid cusomters to try "fact...if that is your ideal of rampe up I would hate to see your idea of a slow beta period. It could only be slower by not of having the one April 27th-April29th.

Futhermore the 2 that you list from pre-purchase on one was closed and one was NOT announced and occured on a work day when not many people could have possible participated further negating your premise that there have actually been more....LOL. Again fact ONE announced open BWE's......since April 10th almost 2 months ago.

ramp up

vb (adverb)
1. to increase or cause to increase (in this case the frequency)
2. (intr) to increase the effort involved in a process

.. and since you want to only include the betas that pre-purchased could participate (no such distintion on the "ramp up" announcement), they went from 0 in january-march (since you're using since the announcement was made) to 2 in april-may (1 beta, 1 stress)... looking it from that point view, again, looks ramped up to me (as in, more frequent).. :)

Reread the original post from ANet. It says nothing about having MORE BWEs or betas. It says only that they will increase the SIZE of the betas, meaning... More people invited to the BWEs (or betas), not more BWEs. And that is exactly what they have done.

I don't know that it's a sign of anything, but I do wish they'd do pre-purchases ONLY when they are very close to release. Usually, when a company does pre-purchase it's about a month away, it's kind of a misleading step to take, imo.

I can patiently wait til it's done myself though. I'm playing GW1 for the HoM perks. The longer GW2 takes, the more crap I get in the HoM.

Exactly, so many disputes over poor reading comprehension.

It specificly says they intend to ramp up the size so that many can participate, nothing at all about ramping up the amount of events in that sentence.

The only danger I see here is the possiblity of reading too much into small delay.

Very good point and I am affriad of that as well....I am also affriad of massive diehard fans turning new comers away or making people feel affriad to be a part fo something that they can not critisize or be told they can't read or they are stupid basically....the reality is implication is there that the paid customers would be able to play more ..however you want to defend it..it is not happneing thus far.

Do people need to "reread " everything until  they then see it how you see it? Becuase your interpretation is all that matters right?

First - they never promised a BWE every month. They always said they aim for that, but it may be longer or shorter time in between the events depending on feedback. Even long months before pre purchase became a thing, they always said that their schedule is built around feedback and everything depends on how ready they feel they are with the game.

Second - They said they are setting up new hardware. Would you rather have the repeat of first hours of first BWE? Where loads of people couldn't connect at all for hours and servers were going up and down all the time? Don't think so. Be patient. It's a beta, an actual beta, where things get tested, things go wrong and things are fixed.

Third - reading comprehension " March and April we’ll aggressively ramp up the size " - means that they increase the size of beta events. From friends&family, to press and lucky invites from pool to all pre-purchase. If you don't consider increasing the size from ~100, thorugh ~500-1k to ~100k agressive ramp up in size then I don't know what you expect.

Are you serious?

You do know we don't just get to decide what a sentence says based on what we want to see, right? It's a firmly defined sentiment. There's no room for interpretation.

Does this mean you've been going through your whole life thinking that's how it works?

And no, you shouldn't have to reread anything, read what's written once - the meaning doesn't change depending on how many times you read it unless you misread at some point.

Edit (read this a few times and you'll see that the meaning never changes):'' and in March and April we’ll aggressively ramp up the size of our beta test events''
