I'm rather puzzled at how long they actually been developing this thing.. And as I been hearing the cost for this game has been HUGE.. Where did they put all this money ? the mid act films ? or the voice overs ? It's a rather small world , and most of the dungeons come with the same reused corners and tunnels and sometimes the same rooms over and over and over again..In result the dungeons feels boring and you just want out as quickly as possible. Where is the faboulous design in this concept ? The INGAME cutscenes are probably the worst I have seen in a very long time, they are just little more zoomed in and really shows us how poor D3 graphics are. Evidently well hidden(fog) during normal gameplay.. Why did they not make real cutscenes like Mass Effect or Dragon Age..If they want to have spoken cutscenes , why not make good ones ? If this game had been made by any other company then Blizzard , players would be all over this issues. My conclusion is that this game tries to hide it's flaws by making faboulous act ending films and hiring super good voice actors.. Almost everything else is below par on everything released today, atleast as I see it. Last but not least, Its a rather fun game with good gameplay, for a while..But the 60 Euro they charge, that's one hell of a price for this game

They used all that time and money to make an awesome game that is extremely addictive and fun as crap to play.

They put the money into the "mana" system that is the best I have ever seen. I am always running out of "mana" so I have to manage that resources. The same goes with health, it always feels as if there is a threat of dying. |

People seem to think that it's been in development since LoD launched, but that's not the case. Granted, it was long, but it wasn't that long. Based on what iformation I've seen, it's been going for about 5ish years (give or take). It was first announced in 2008, as I recall, but there wasn't much to show then.
And, if you don't mind me asking, where are you seeing cost speculations? I'd kinda like to see what the cost of the game may have been. I want a mmorpg where people have gone through misery, have gone through school stuff and actually have had sex even. -sagil |

Disregarding latency issues, the game runs absurdly smooth on my five year old system. Nothing special too, just an old Core2Duo processor, 4GB ram and a regualr HD 4850 ATI videocard. Like I said, a pretty old system. But I can run Diablo 3 at full settings. The game looks amazing and no one can deny that there's a huge amount of detail in the characters and the environment. Directly out of the box, the game is suprisingly polished. Achieving something of those standards costs time and money. The only cutscene that comes to my mind that was pretty subpar, was the one in which Cain gets killed. That looked aweful to me at least. I do find it pretty funny that you compare the cutscenes from Diablo 3 with those of Mass Effect and Dragon Age. While I do like those games, the use of low quality textures (just look at the armors in the conversations, can it be more blocky?) and flickering shadows always bugged me. With those games it's like they poured all their money and time into the faces and just forgot about the rest. Also, I believe that only Mass Effect 3 natively supports Anti-Alliasing. Perhaps nitpicking of me, but the jagged edges in the recent Bioware games are pretty noticeable. The HD pack for Dragon Age 2 didn't make things a lot better either. Lastly, people were also willing to pay € 55,- for Prototype 2. A game that plays, looks and with all respect, litterly is the same as the first game. Why? Because they find it worth that money. For it's the same with Diablo 3 and unlike with Mass Effect 3, I don't feel betrayed by Diablo 3 when I finished my first playthrough. |

Not saying you cant speak about the concerns you might have about a game but maybe you should have started you post somthing more like "i moderatly like D3 BUT........put rant here". Most of the time i ask people like yourself.....why did you buy it if you got NOTHING positive to say about it? If its realy that bad then the other fiew million people playing and loving it must be wrong then?? right?

What costs - give numbers
How long development - give numbers Maybe provide some comparison with competitor's product In this form, this thread is like asking us to argue against your opinion which is not possible by definition I would suggest locking this...sorry Playing: Nothing atm My game concept thread: http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/369707 (any feedback appreciated) |

Originally posted by thark So your basing your development cost for D3 based on a MMOrpg.com thread? 0.o Now that truly is funny. No offense but thats just pure speculation, I even posted somethings in that thread, which were all just guesses. Get a little more information. [mod edit]

i couldn't care less how long they took to make it (other than the fact that i had to wait) or how much it cost them. to me its an extremely fun game and i am glad i am not like many people on this website who are never happy with any game. |

Originally posted by eAzydaman I think that might have been more due to shoddy design rather than a small world. Apparently some folks figured out how to make their monks perma-immune to damage. It's fixed now (for now), but that's one of those things that should have been caught. If you put some mechanic into your game that gives you invulnerability you better check that it can't be extended to make you or your party perma-unkillable. |

Originally posted by ButeoRegalis Still, been following a guy on youtube who usually casts SC2. In 7 days he has gone up to diablo on Inferno difficulty. And he's no korean grinder. They could have atleast completely changed the mechanics of the act bosses on Inferno. When people are done with inferno, what more is there to do without the PVP element? And the PVP is influenced by WOW arenas. Change it up ffs, make full loot PVP servers or SOMETHING. |

Too busy woring on their new mmo I think because certainly quality development time was not put into this game for players to play in the long term. Fun for a month or 2 and that is about it. |

Originally posted by MikkelB Yes the one scene with Cain getting killed is awful...but so are the others aswell IMO. I dont think there is enough detaili, sure ..some of the places are nice and all , but the nice places are VERY few..As I said in my post above, the dungeons in mostly the same reused tiles over and over again, sometimes you run inside the same room like 10-15 times,Insides of the fortress being attacked in act 3? for example.. The gameworld, or the playable areas are ..few ..very few..Diablo 3 should have had a larger world with even MOORE detail put in to it..If you play it VERY CASUAL you complete it on normal on a weekend..Then after that there is only loot hunt left ..No new sites to see only the same.. Look, I didnt COMPARE Diablos cutscenes with DA or Mass Effect, I said If they wanted "cutscenes" why not something like these games..THe cutscenes in Diablo 3 look more like something from ..Baldurs Gate or Fallout You are up close , you see faces and their expressions , you see how all the characthers look, In Diablo you see a 2 cm large characther wawing arms ..I'm not sure about this, but..Both ME and DA has top of the line characther graphics..The flickering shadows I can agree with however....But I simply disagree with graphics from those games beiing poor like you said, the outdoor graphics could have been better thou..But we shouldn't be talking about these games now..I just took them as an example of GOOD CUTSCENES, not graphical splendor ... |

Why did they not make real cutscenes like Mass Effect or Dragon Age..If they want to have spoken cutscenes , why not make good ones ? that style isn't blizzard's. part of why i didn't personally buy it. also i expected them to underestimate their success enough to cause issues server side. personally i'm looking at torchlight 2; it is 1/3 the price and many things similar or better than D3 seems.

What happened to the content that was in the very very first alpha video they showed? Ghoouls and skeletons closing in from all angles, Deckard Kain being more crotchety, dialogue windows for thr cutscenes, and (most importantly), the death animations (Siege beast fight). I want *that* game!
