ultima online 3?

Several updates released today (Island Forge Beta v0.9.8.4)! Friend and Chat controls have been improved. One gameplay rule change. Details on the player forum.

New YouTube video posted, showing island editing, simple story authoring, and publishing your islands to the world (and brief gameplay).

I captured this as one continuous shot to show off how quickly players can edit and publish player-created content to the world, then jump right in and play it.

I'm sure the folks here watch countless MMO video clips, so I'd welcome your constructive input. What other videos would you like to see? What should I cover to better explain Island Forge?

I like the game, buuuuuut when making some actors I had trouble sorting through the character models.  If you could somehow label them it would make sifting through the menu a ton faster and easier.

Thanks for the input, Hauvarn. The reason I didn't name the actors was to prevent implying what they were for (so the author wouldn't think they could only be used in a certain way). That said, I see exactly what you mean, and I'll make a task to improve the actor lookup.

They could be displayed like the terrain and scenery, in a categorized tree. Would that be better, or is it easier to see them all at once, without having to open/close parts?

Have you published your island yet? I look forward to checking it out!

Haven't published it yet, been busy.  I got to the point to start placing the actors but I could barely make out what each one so I just ended my session there and haven't had the time to pick it back up.  Tomorrow will definately see another sit down to finish up my island. One other minor thing I noticed was with the rectangle style of placing terrain does not go up or to the left, only down and right.  It isn't a big deal but I sat for around 30 seconds not knowing what was going on lol. 

I think if you displayed them in a categorized tree would do wonders for people who have a hard time picking them out.

Hauvarn, I agree - the rectangle tool should really work in both positive and negative directions. I've added a task to improve that. I might not be able to get to this immediately, but I certainly appreciate your input!

I've released a slew of improvements since my last post here. New Full-Screen toggle (F11) released this morning. Fog has a two-tier effect. Island builder tool has several enhancements. (Plus a bunch of technical improvements that no one but me really cares about!)

This actually looks pretty interesting, ill give it a go.

Being a game designer myself, nearly have my degree now, I'm mostly an artist, 3d Modeler, UI, Texture artist etc. I know some scripting etc, so I make smaller scale games and such.. But anyways I always been a fan of indies because of what I do and support them so I will have to give this one a try and see what you have made.

Also people need to be a little more understanding coming from one person makes it harder so some people need to be  a little more understanding with there comments.  Input is one thing but flat out bashing someone is another which is wrong with kids , and gamers today.

Gamers should be happy that we are making games for them to play.. SO its NOT the same Old crap..

I give you respect . Good luck and I will post my comments once I play the game and let you know where you need adjustments /help.

By the way I also deal with Game play  mechanics, if you ever need any advise or any help on art aspects feel free to PM me  I don't mind helping indies out, we need more indies games...

Normally I just look past indie mmo's and one man projects like this. I checked out the site and the gameplay video and am actually suprised at how well things look put together. Your sandbox mechanics look great; the crafting, the islands, user-made content. Shit even the COMBAT looks interesting... Kinda like a runescape or say Ultima, but more fast-paced (keep it this way, its great).

Custom content is not an RPGMaker clone at all, this isometric hex system is rarely seen nowadays so this is a good sign. Reminds me of an old D&D game that'd be between the DOS RTS's and Baldurs Gate.

Thank you very much for your post, MajorBiggs! I'm working really hard to keep things classic-yet-modern, familiar-yet-unique, and I'm glad you appreciate my efforts. I'm all about the old-school, and your references are great.

The whole game is designed around player-created content, but you can also explore/fight/craft on your own or in groups. I've found it hard to explain all the features briefly enough to quickly grab players attentions the Web site, which leads to a lot of words, so thanks for taking the time to check it out!

There's a lot you can do, but it's designed to be easy to jump right in. Please let me know your thoughts when you've had the chance to give it a try!
