Solid state drive users should avoid using this product. Anything that "defragments" or "rearranges" the files on your disk is wearing down your drive. SSDs do not have seek times, unlike mechanical drives, and thus are not affected by fragmentation.
The only part of this product that sounds useful for a SSD user is the registry cleaner, but there are plenty of free ones out there. Anything else this software does is probably available for free or is simply a tweak that anyone can do by following instructions on the internet. Learn more about PCs and you can save money. Build a better system and don't worry about silly things like registry cleanup and system tweaks to squeeze out .01 fps in games. |

Originally posted by Brenelael I have to agree, I would not do anything that changes the registry, I dont know anything about Ccleaner and how safe that is? I just use game booster which temp closes programs which run while you are playing games thus max your ram-particularly usefull in my windowns 32 bit xp- and Smart Defrag which does a much better job at defrag than xp |

Own a pair of computer repair shops in TN, and I can tell you, if you use this product, you will be sorry. And getting rid of it is almost as bad as removing a bad virus. So I guess you would also recommend using Norton 360 and McAfee also, huh? Stick to games, though if anyone in my local area takes your advice, I'll be getting more business really soon! |

I will echo as other's have said. I think you should stay away from this one. I honestly thought it was a joke at first, because the screen looks almost exactly like the "Data Recovery" and "Antivirus 2012" infections I've been cleaning off of clients computers for the last number of years (insert the current year after the "Antivirus" infection). I personally use CCleaner and Auslogics Disk Defrag as my primary ways to optimize systems, and use Malwarebytes and/or Combofix as ways to deal with infected computers...other utilities when it's really bad. Since I'm primarily a Windows user, I can say from experience, it's a very vulnerable operating system, no matter which antivirus/malware protection you use. Best defences against corruption on your system is knowledge and common sense. Don't click on every darn thing you see, especially if you go to a bad website and it says "click here to have us scan your system" or "click here for some free coupons". Edit/Addition: I have used CCleaner's registry cleaner, as well as Auslogics Registry cleaner, and have never, ever had a problem. Every other "registry cleaner" I've seen has been a malware infection. I have also used Glary Utilites once before, and it seems to do everything this advertised product does for free. However, I cannot recommend Glary Utilites because I don't have a lot of experience with it. |

Two things give me more business...lightning storms and people installing "utilities" they have seen on the internet or TV to help them "clean" their computer. Both are freaks of nature. |

I have used this program wayyy back, on Windows 98... I think. It was great at that time. Tune-up Utilities as well. But as the Windows platform matured, it ironed out many little things so a lot of those programs weren't really needed. So I've stopped using them. Never had any trouble with them, but then again I regularly backup my system drive in case of screw-ups. I don't think many people do.
Someone mentioned Norton and McAfee... yea those were good back in the day. Now they are horrible spamwares, using shameful tactics to get customers. I didn't try System Mechanic for many years, maybe it did go the wrong way, I don't know. But I would never say bad things about some software product before I've even tried it. Looks like many people here did just that. |

ccleaner or any of these reg cleaners, very risky, I have read stories on the internet concerning ccleaner and others where it erased something it should not have and what followed--Blue screen of death---and reinstall |

Originally posted by BillMurphy Lighten up? Well Mr. Murphey as several of my colleagues in IT have stated this is ONE of the worst pieces of software you can install on your pc. After 15 years as a T3 tech support for several major isp's I have continued to see these so called "System Mechanic" programs do nothing but reek havok on pc's. As on Editor for a gaming site and a long time pc user I would think you would know better. If its not a Game or a keyboard and mouse how bout you just leave these things to the people who know better. To many people trust what so called "Experts" suggest and install these pieces of crap and turn that nice new pc or laptop into a brick and who do you think they have to thank for that. Once again if you dont have the full story on something....do us all a favor and just keep it to yourself. |

Oh snippity snap, what a backlash. I love CCleaner, and have used System Mechanic in the past, and I think System Mechanic wasn't too bad. That being said, I'll never pay for it (totally pirated it like a winner), and it is in no way a "must have". MMORPG.com staff: Maybe next time, think carefully about the titles of something like this. Instead of throwing a product around as a "must have", maybe give your own opinions and start a constructive discussion, if that's even possible around here, but title it like "System Mechanic - MMORPG.com staff's preferred PC Cleaner", not something as is that absolutely screams that you guys were paid to write it. It really does appear to be a blatant ad. |

im confused.. as to whats wrong with using the default windows defragger, and learning how to clean windows reg files out manually?? are people really that stupid and lazy that they will happily spend 1k++ on a computer and not bother to learn even 0.1% of how to use it effectively?? i guess this software is the reason there are soo many cheap IT repair shops out there that charge you 100 bucks to install windows 7 back on your now fubared system.... i mean god.. its not rocket science to learn how to protect your network and system from hyjack and system problems...
if you cant be bothered to learn how to maintain your PC... sell it for a console cause you clearly have no idea how to use a PC then.. or very least know how to use one to its truely effective mannor.. |

If the problem is bloatware, then do a clean install of your OS. If the problem is a generally sluggish system, then get an SSD. If the problem is poor performance on your wireless network, then get ethernet. Any of those will do more to help your problem than the software package you endorse. |
