I played the GW2 beta. Sadly i didnt take any screenshot of some of the ¨ugly¨ things that i found, gonna do it the next beta. The graphics are not that great, games like lotro, AoC, TSW and even Tor, have better graphics, and i can give you so many examples about why, but is just pointless tbh. u cant argue with a fanboy.

Are you hikaru77?

i play for many time LOTRO with all max settings include DX11 and GW2 graphics are no doubt better IMO in details. LOTRO chars have very low detail

TOR has better gfx than GW2 i see yiu are quite delusional also LOTRO has nice gfx but they aged and are nowhere better than GW2 also LOTRO char models suck quite hard  if there was no appereance tab lotro would have ugliest chars in all AAA MMOS, oh btw i played LOTRO longest of all MMOS so i know what i m talking about.

I have posted Tera and Aion SS and neither of these do this. I will make a point of taking a SS next beta in GW2 to show the difference.

This has nothing to do with knees...it is about polygon surface. Computer graphics and physics is nothing like "real life".

Make a SS and you will see.

I can't make a SS of GW2 right now that would be impossible, but I will.

An example is the Aion photo below. In GW2 the left leg would be exetnded while the right would be bent at the knee and/or hip adjusting to the angle/slope of the mountain. In this case it does have to do with "real life" physical mechanics and not computer graphics.

TOR: painted backdrops and lifeless insipid worlds that do not inspire.  The only thing it has going for it at all is that the resolution is reasonable for its inception period (2007ish)

LOTR, really good graphics for its time, but very samey.

GW2, not so much about the 'gfx' but about artistic direction and attention to detail to present a world that draws you in.  'gfx' are just pixels without artistic talent and integrity of vision.

Not really fair on on LOTR to compare against GW2 considering LORT age, but TOR is a different kettle of fish. its like comparing a storyboard to an animation.

rpg/mmorg history: Bloodwych>Bards Tale 1-3>Eye of the beholder > Might and Magic 2,3,5 > FFVII> Baldur's Gate 1, 2 > Planescape Torment >Morrowind > WOW (9500 hrs on main mage)> oblivion > LOTR (480 Hunter) > Rift (230 hours mage) > Guild Wars (1900hrs elementalist) Vanguard. > GW2(350 elementalist)

Now playing GW2/Diablo 3/Rift

I can't believe people are trying to say SWTOR had better visual appeal.  That is insane.

And while parts of LOTRO are great, I love the shire, it not quite as good as GW2.  And overall GW2 is a good bit better.  Some LOTRO zones are not that amazing.   I can't say I found Agnmar that amazing.  I liked Moria alot and the 3D aspects of its maps are great but GW2 does that same thing everywhere.

The other games. Meh whatever it seems like people are just having a pissing contest over small things.  But TOR being better; that is laughable.

Are you trying to say that GW2 allows real-time 3D animation?

Not happening, sorry.

Nope I never said that. Read what I posted. Don't add anymore into it, it is simple stuff.

It is no simple stuff :)

Real-time 3D animation is what you were describing...

Its about on Par with RIFT graphics wise, maybe rift has the upper hand on reflections and water.

GW2 movement (running) seems unnatural - like staking over floor with abnormally large strides..

Not bashing it or anything its still one im getting for sure.

'Hater's gonna hate'.

Yeah, ALL of this.

GW2 is beautiful and enchanting (to me), and I won't even LISTEN to the people that want to argue otherwise. They are allowed their opinions, even if they're wrong.  lol

I think this screen shot is a good one for illustrating the quality of the graphics, the aesthetics of the game and the level of detail. I think it's actually very telling about the quality of the game engine, (which isn't even very optimized for the GPU at this stage), that the game can render environments like this with out the frame rates dropping significantly.

This one is also very illustrative. Most games ensure that while in a city, you are only able to see small portions of the cityscape at a time, because to try to take in a large swath at once would be murder on your frame rates. Here is a triple monitor panoramic screen shot looking down into one of Divinity's Reach's districts. I've looked down from that perspective myself and was also shocked that my frame rates remained smooth.

(Click image for full resolution. You'll probably have to click the new image again to zoom in).

@Fiontar... omg the brickwork and the detail on the banner's threadwork are absolutely insane.. cant really tell in those pics  and not sure if it was mentioned in the thread but the trees... I don't think I have seen a duplicate tree yet.

Bloodyhell fiontar... you may as well just turn off you UI altogether because it's basically non-existent.

But really that's a great screen shot. My PC is a bit underwhelming, so my screenshots were pretty much the same... underwhelming. Though I'm surprised by how well the game looked on my system. Just wish it ran well in WvW & the larger DEs.

Compare a terrain of steep maybe...?

I would guess that GW2 will do the same as well on such angle.

This is the best I could find. Sorry it took so long I had to leave and got back a while ago.

But you can see how they are different than the previous posts of Aion and Tera SS where the characters actually fload above slopes. See how the legs adjust to the terrain and that is what I was speaking of in attention to detail. For those saying Tera and Aion had this long ago I'm sorry but you are wrong.

Beautiful screen shots, fiontar. The first screen shot is one of my favorite places in the game. It's just so epic looking. As a matter of fact, I think that Divinity's Reach is probably one of the most epic cities I've seen in an MMO. It's not just a bunch of vendors, a bank and an AH strategically placed with a few pointless buildings and NPCs hanging around like window dressing. It's an actual city.

I would be hard pressed to find a game with such attention to detail. What's more amazing is the fact that Anet did all of this knowing full well that most players will not even notice these things.

I think that during the next BWE, I will take some time off from DEs and PvP and just run around taking screen shots of cool sights.

THis really showcased how much they're like just about every other MMO. Another thing was that damn sword lol it was rather ridiculous.

Another tiny detail I didn't like was the skin of the humans, too Oblivion like for my taste where as the charr look like something from skyrim in comparison. Overall these complaints are rather superficial though, it's the gameplay that really matters, and of course the PVP.

??  I saw this, and nobody ever responded to it.  How so do you mean this?

Maybe if you watched this guy's previous videos you'd see that NPCs come in various types.  Some just stand around, some move about and do things, some actually have various scripted scenes they play out depending upon circumstances (And whether or not anybody is actually watching them)

It's pretty obvious that's just a design choice on their part.  The human skins ARE textured quite well actually, and it's pretty obvious when you look up close.  It's just they're textured to be doll like, haha.  I dunno, this isn't really an issue on whether or not they applied textures, you just don't like the doll like way they chose to represent most humans. :D

Please click each image to access the full resolution screen shot.

This screen shot shows some of the variability for the facial textures. The females tend to have smoother faces, which is what you tend to find in reality. The Norn Male in the screen shot has the most detailed face texture. The Human male a little less, while the female on the right has more detail than the pale Norn female, who sort of makes up for the porcelain look with a fairly detailed facial tatoo:

This Norn female has been zoomed in on enough to reveal that the females do have detailed facial texures, even if it might not be as noticeable from a distance. (Note: there is a graphics settings toggle for High Resolution Character Textues, which is off by default, so some screen with lower settings may not show the same level of detail):

Here is a close up of a Human Male. Once again, not as detailed as many of the Norn Males I've seen in game, but definitely not the plastic doll effect seen in some other titles:

(red) I was just under the impression there would be a lot more activity than there is. Those shots looked very standard to me in that regard, one or two patrolling the rest standing around not doing much of anything. It's really not that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things, it was a little more active than some, kinda on par with AOC IMO in this department.

(green)As for the human skin thing, it's most certainly a preferential thing, I play human/oid in most games so it's something I take notice of, the original was pretty bad in this department too. They take an Asian looking approach for humans IMO. Western tends to be a bit more grimy looking, deep lines in the face etc.. Has a more medieval fantasy vibe for me so I prefer it, people look rough as they should. Their approach is too clean. If you catch my drift.

Compared to the scenery with its blend of rusty steampunk and medieval fantasy as well as other racial details they (humans)stick out quite a bit too much. The Norn female above posted by Fiontar was a little better looking than what I saw in the videos though. All IMO of course..

Wait - you didn't play the game, you only judge the NPCs and their activity based on screenshots and videos?

Really? Or did I get that wrong?
