Eve online is hands down the best.
I enjoy TOR for its story, and its a good game, but EVE is still the best i ever played.

Everquest holds a place in my heart for having a hude world that took hours to travel, broad open alignments/factions that could change depending on your actions, and night where you actually needed a lgiht source (yes, that actually meant something). Oh, and quests that did not tell you every step.
WoW has a great deal of polish and content. It deserves its place as the current king of MMOs, though there are many featuers and design decisions I no longer agree with.
CoH, pre a lot of teh crazy nerfs, was fun because you FELT like a superhero. I't's just not the same anymore.
EVE is possibly the only true sandbox really keeping the numbers up.
GW2 is just..FUN. |

Best once upon a time were M59, EQ, AC, UO and DaoC. Meridian 59 really had all the basics of 99% of all MMOs set from the start so I think it was the best ever. Right now and soon in the future it is GW2. |

Going to go with EVE also. While I have had a hard time getting into it, usually do 2-3 months at a time then break, it's a great game and still holds up really well in 2012 (It has aged amazingly imho).
If you want something more on rails, going to hand that one to LotRO or Rift. |

Best ingame chat system: Anarchy Online again
Best Grafix: Age of Conan, long time nothing, then there is a couple, as even the WoW grafix are not too bad, but the epic second in this category is: Entropia Universe
I have not included some very popular titles like Rift or Tera, TSW or some other not released or what i dont know so far. Is there really a game with a better chatsystem out, then AO ? Is there any deeper story then AO ? Lets hope they make it with the engine overhaul ^^ |

IMO (in no particular order): EVE Online Vanilla WoW EQ Pre-NGE SWG DAoC Possibly some others I cannot remember off the top of my head. As for MMOs still in development, GW2 is looking fantastic, if that qualifies for a true MMORPG. ArcheAge also seems to be very promising, and hopefully it delivers. |

The best mmo IMO is EVE. Some of my reasons for liking EVE are as follows: 1. No storylines, quests needed to level up (or in EVE train) etc. The storyline in EVE is whatever you want it to be. No ones tell u what to do. You just do what ever u want to. 2. U can use in-game currency (ISK) to pay for subscription. Not that long ego, they had 100 nvidia cards for sell that u could buy using ISK. They were gone in about 2minutes ;-) 3. A lot of ways to earn isk, .e.g mining, exploration, scamming, stealing, trading, etc. 4. A death has consequence, i.e. u always loos your ship if u get blown up. So u think twice when u undock some expensive ship or put +5 implants and go into low-sec or null. 5. Security in high-sec is only an illusion. 6. Market and prices of items are controlled by players. 7. Free expansions. Unlike in e.g. WoW that expansions costs money, in EVE u just pay subscription and don't have to worry about paying for any expansions packs or whatever.

seems that few people love action mmorpg? you forgot a category: skill animation they are games that have awsome skill animation cabal(normal mmorpg),dragon nest (action with mouse targeting) for one also seems c9 would have the same play stile as dn but with better graphics
they aren't the best game out there, also most of this type are instance driven and that gets borring with a better story and graphic and world rather than instance they would be top tier i don't understand why they don't make games like this(DN skills +VINDICTUS graphics + lineage castle siege + a big world to explore)
most mmorpg rather focus on armor(or as naked as possible for the female toons) than skills i didn't play terra but got bored just watching a gameplay video.Gameplay doesn't look different from a normal mmorpg, even if you use a target Vindictus has a little more mature skill animation, they are good, but after playing DN i wouldn't call it a action mmorpg DC universe has the same fealing as vindictus, but it has world pvp so might be better(you have to spend 5$ to be able to trade in DC tough)

Best mmorpg would be Vanguard : Saga of Heroes, if it had the attetion and the contents of EQ2 and a race/faction based PVP system.Other than that is a personal taste decision. |

For me is Lineage 2. Had fun in alot others mmos, but Lineage 2 was allways the best for me and still is. (even atm the GoD expansions change the game radically). And i dont see anything on the market for now that worth change.
EvE allways call my attention, but my bad luck is that i dont like spaceships games :( |

Not currently subbed to an MMO..
My favorite out of the mix at the moment is Darkfall, but its a sandboxish full loot pvp game and really not for everyone. If I was so suggest a themepark game it would have to be Age of Conan, its free to play so you can take a prober look.
Or if you can wait a bit TSW is out soon and its an awesome game. |
