Preface in short , as posted in other posts , I think the combat/animations are awful in most regards , but the setting/atmosphere of the game still keep me clawing on to hope that they will make it tolerable enough by end of early launch to not cancel my preorder. That out of the way , not anything to do with the "hey we are smarter because we like TSW puzzles" crowd (seriously folks , if you think solving puzzles of patterns in a computer game makes you a MENSA candidate you need to really think about that) either. Bragging about your intellectual prowess because you choose TSW over WoW is on the same moronic level as someone bragging about their reflexes in an athletic sense because of being good at CS. One nice thing I think that could come of TSW is a crowd that plays the game without being on voice/vent/mumble/TS the entire time playing. People actually chatting in text chat in game. Old schoold I know , but I still prefer this from the early EQ days. I've got kids/wife and have listened to people all day long at work at my clients I go to and the last thing I want to do usually in what gaming time I have is to have to listen to a crowd of folks popping in and out of push to speak constantly. Occasionally sure , but more often that not , not my thing. I like hearing the sounds of the game , the music of the game , can remember sounds from midi EQ musis to some of the L2 and AoC music and then also the enviromental sounds. Sorta hit me this evening that there might also be a lot of folks who want to hear the atmosphere of the game in TSW without being in voice chat all the time. And I'd enjoy that as I still like to socialize in area/guild text chat. (just dear god give me toggle mouselook Funcom and rebinds of my mouse buttons and I'd probably buy it at least for a month)

Awesome , couple PM's telling me how stupid I am for not wanting to use vent/voice in an mmorpg because "everyone does all the time". I guess I'm the only one who likes hearing the sounds of the game without a voice chat room going on constantly :P

I agree with you. I hate having to listen to all the clutter of people trying to use voice chat. I like the natural feel and sounds of a game and as well I am enjoying TSW even through its flaws.

Originally posted by Dahkot72 100% understand your points and agree. You are not alone. 2 things I hate playing MMO's: - 1 - Too many twats play MMO's now 2 - If you play a generic MMO you need voice chat to raid and see end game content...and these twats will not shutup!
So all joking aside (well, I wasn't completely joking but hey!) I loved listenning to the game music and effects and to be able to play a game where I could actually write something in chat and actually have a conversation with people who knew how to write without shortened words....kkthxby.....it was refreshing :) |

Agreed, which is why I sometimes prefer solo play to avoid the noise factor. |

Yes, I found the general chat in the game this weekend to be very pleasant, mature and helpful, didn't feel the need for a guild or TS. Probably the best community in an mmo to date, seems aspects of the game have already filtered out the idiots. I can see some good voice chat over some of the investigation clues though.
Every party I was in was good, and Kingsmouth had an intimate atmosphere, I was sad to leave.
I do worry that may be due to very few people being interested in the game, when I compare it to the packed early TERA betas.

Nice to see not alone in it , and honestly the community and atmosphere of the game is slowly pushing me to put up with my distaste for the animations and combat. Again , as aside , nothing wrong with those who do want to be on vent all the time while playing , some even turn the music off and sound of game all the way down for these , I just personally couldn't imagine enjoying this game with the atmosphere of the sounds and music not being interrupted by a break in mic sound of someone even politely saying , "whats up guildies" every 30 secs , (but I do enjoy the text chat socializing of exact said thing) Just a personal preference is all. |

Agree with this thread. I wore my headset to hear the music and the voiceovers, not someone on vent.
I soloed the entire time and enjoyed learning everything with a completely fresh perspective. I liked not having any input from someone else and having to learn it from scratch, even if it took hours for a lightbulb to come on. |

People aren't using vent because it's Beta. When guilds are formed this game will have vent just like other MMORPGs. There's nothing inherently 'special' about this game that is going to stop people from using voice communication. |

I really liked the Score of the game. It adds very well to the dark setting of this game. |

Agree OP, voice chat is the reason why I leave most guilds... sure when raiding awesome, but I am not sitting in vent all the time while playing the game just to listen to some fratboy talk about his weight lifting routine. Agree. I like to listen to the game and I fail at recognizing voices over chat.

I would put no voice chat in a win column myself as well. It's not so much that I don't want to talk to people as it would be that hearing the other people in the game, talking about the game would more or less ruin the immersion in the game. Join the League For Gamers. |

The VENT issue definitely gets out of hand. I was in a guild once that had it and we were required to be on often. So a couple guildies and I go into a sub-channel so that we can hunt in peace. When we asked people who weren't with our group not to come to the channel and blab, we were told we were being anti-social. I definitely don't want to hear about peoples' mundane lives when I am enjoying a video game. |

I dont agree at all with the voice thing, I think its a bad idea not to impliment it into mmos. So often I find my self having to stop what Im doing and type out what needs to be done in a group, by that time Im dead or hurting. If there was in game VoIP then I wouldnt have to stop everything to type out a command. Besides, its not like people can just chat to everyone over voice chat and you cant do anything about it. First of all you have to be in a group with someone, second theres always the option to turn it off. Iv always been a big supporter of VoIP in all mmos, and I think its a terrible thing not to have it available for those that can use it. I dont use vent or teamspeak but I love VoIP implimented into games.
