My words are not here to sway you, they are here to make you understand. |

Originally posted by Lord.Bachus Have you read any of the books? The first one in particular is pretty good but yea, 10 year old kids can read it though then again, that doesn't mean they'd understand anything. Also, unlike the story of TSW which shows you what you're aiming to do right from the get-go, GW2 is building up to that slowly so there are differences in the execution. Seems you like TSWs execution a lot better. This is not a game. |

I never said that the lore and stories where bad, just that they are typical fantasy that i would allow my 10 year old to read. Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) |

GW - Teen Rating TSW - M+17 Rating So of course... TSW can incorporate more ideas into the characters/stories.. Lol... Its been hatin' on so many people. There is no sense of direction.. linearity of gameplay in GW2.. I like this feature.. free to do what I want.. However since many people are so used to tradition they require it ^_^.
Both are great games. I love them for different reasons. Of course we are all free to chose and play what we want :D But come on.. lets not compare man. TSW game is P2P after all.. Why are P2P games being compared to GW2.. I just don't understand.

someone please correct me if i am wrong but.. GW2 has an ESRB rating of T for Teen now. you were very close in your estimation of 10+, but it came in at 13+. Still, a storyline suitable for young teens most would consider still children! I have no doubt they intended this all along.

Originally posted by Puraimaru I thought the reason was that FunCom have nudity and more foul language. Age recommendations doesn´t really have anything to do with how good a story is, or porn movies would have the best story of them all. I wont comment on which game that actually have the best story since I havn´t tried TSW yet but this have nothing to do with things. |

I find most story telling in popular media rather childish but I'm ok with that. I did enjoy my inquisitor Swtor story which was a break from the usual hero story line.
As you get older it's harder to suspend disbelief. |

Of course the narrative is targetted to be suitable for children, look at the rating for the game, that doesnt make it bad per se. The Hobbit is considered suitable for children and that is one of the greatest fantasy stories ever written. Being dark and gritty doesnt make the story any better, just different. If you are after adult themes, then yeah TSW would be more up your alley. |

I'm optimisitc when it comes to these sorta things, even though some of the time its just to much to chew even for me, Ill give some examples. Aion, my second favorite game until I got to play TSW, I loved every part of it, but there was this one sequence of monsters that just make me gag so hard I couldnt belive they were added in the first place. It was in Eltnen on the elyos side, Im pritty sure the location was around Kaiden Headquarters but I might be off a bit. Anyway, up till that point everything had fit very well into the theme of what was going on in Aion, the mobs included, but I got into this one area of monsters that literally looked like a 2 year old drew it on a peace of paper. It was sooo terrible, and to this day when ever I think of aion, Im always reminded of how terrible that area of mobs were and how sick it made me :) In swtor also, I choose to play republic side knight. After getting out past the republic Building where you can train etc, for the next 20 hours or so all I did was kill these funny looking bear like things, that I could swallow but even so, when ever I think of SWTOR any of the good thoughts I have like how great the Hutta planet was for me in beta being a agent for the empire, or how I love how they make the quests seemlessly flow along the zones and how well the zones are constructed, are overshadowed at how much they used the same mob over and over with the bear looking creatures on the republic knight side. TSW really dosnt have any room to brag either, there zombies in kingsmouth need more skins for one, there so identical to one another its really silly and they always spawn as the same damn zombie, there is no randomness with it, but thats a simple fix if they choose to do so, people are stubborn though.

Any mmo these days if filled with (kids) (emo's) (hater's) (trolls) (scrubs) (noobs) . But World of Warcraft remains king in the above department. And MoP will increase the attraction even more for kids with Pokemon and Kung Fu panda's.
Doesnt mean GW2 wont have any , iam sure that in this age and time the days of adults playing mmo's are over. Perhaps Eve online is one of the few mmo's that contain a high age level compared to any other mmo's. For some reason kids quit playing eve when the tears drop alongside their cheeks when their 1st battleship is blown up by a few rats or mission specific enemy's. Or a posible pirate hunting for tears :P http://speedtest.net/result/2112016336.png |

Go play Alan Wake, if you want to see a dark story. It will blow your TSW out of the water. |

TSW story, backround, atmosphere, setting, mysteries etc. combined with the general fluidity of GW2 would be my pick for the MMO of the decade! Currently playing: FTB Ultimate Waiting for: Wildstar, ArcheAge, Class4. Dead and Buried: GW2, SWTOR, Darkfall, AO, AC2, Vanguard, CoH/V, EnB, EVE, Neocron, FE, EQ, EQ2, DAoC, FFXI, SWG, WoW, and billions of eastern junks! |

I disagree. EQ, DAOC, and SWG were the three "Most Amazing MMOs" ...."ever". GW2, for me, is just another new modern twist on the lowest common denominator.

You see, the problem with story setting in MMOs is that it often ends up as one time thing. Best example - SWTOR (despite all it's other issues). Once You play through the whole "plot" part you still are supposed to enjoy the game and not just put it back on a shelf to never look at it again. It's great when it's engaging and interesting the first time you progress through it, but over time it becomes same thing and stops being surprsiing, you remember every twist, every secret, every major point. At that point what makes or breaks the game usually is actual, mechanical and technical aspects of the gameplay.
If those were two singleplayer games we would be comparing, then yes, story becomes more important, but in MMOs.. I'm more interested in long term plan than something I'll play through and never really think about again. I actually prefer the story to be "lighter" because I don't want it to be the main focus of developement in MMO. |

Created for Kids?
Funny, because the GW2 community is probably the most mature one I have come across while playing MMO's. "The problem with quotes from the Internet is that it's almost impossible to validate their authenticity." - Abraham Lincoln |

What doest it really mean? A game for 10 year olds... When I was 10 year old, i played damn brutal games and I was watching thriller-horror movies (like aliens, predator, and much much worse). It's a different setting than TSW yeah, but I wouldn't just call it for 10 year old's just because it's fantasy. Lord of the Rings is fantasy too... is it that childish? The story of Guild Wars has lots of "political conflicts" and is very deep and "adult" if you take time to figure out the lore. It is true however that in the personal story of GW2 I haven't seen much of this yet, but I'm only lvl 15 and I'm sure the story has yet to unfold. As for TSW, I think it's sad it has a montly fee. I like it's setting (i'm very interested in myths and conspiracy theories, i love reading about such stuff) so i would probably have bought the box if it had a payment model like GW2. Unlike GW2 which I believe is actually so good that it would be the only MMO I could pay a monthly fee for.. |

In addition to what others have been posting, remember that some of the most basic concepts of a story sell the most. Anyone remember Twilight, it may be bad one way or the other in the eyes of some, but it is one of the most profitable IPs in the recent years. |
