I was just wondering who will be against who in lets say structured pvp. Such as in WoW ( i dont play it, but i know) there is the alliance vs the horde, or something like that, In Lotro it is the free people vs monster players, etc. In Guild wars 2, when we que for a structured pvp, and lets say ill be an asura guardian who will be my allys or enemy. Who are the "good" or "bad" ones, sorry i dont know much about this lore/story im just here for the kick ass pvp. In WvWvW i know it will be servers against servers, but in other types of pvp idk who will be against each other. Thanks. |

I imagine it would just be like Guild Wars 1 PvP, you get put in a random group and wear a specific colour, you have to kill the oppisite colour.
But I don't know for sure. |

Remmember this game isn't WoW. Its not a WoW clone. You have to clear your mind of WoW completly.
This is a faction-less game. Its WvW is based on Servers fighting eachother. So your enemy is other Servers. Although they look the same as you since they races and classes are the same across the servers, you are broken up into teams. Usually differentiated by color (IE red team, blue team, green team). hope that helps. The way mmo's were: Community, Exploration, Character Development, Conquest.
The way mmo's are now : Cut-Scenes,Cut-Scenes, Linear Story, Cut-Scenes...

Originally posted by WellzyC I did state that i dont play WoW and never did & i was using Lotro aswell, but having factions is really a big plus, mostly because they are your "enemy" lol and they are diff instead of fighting your same race/class maybe i found my first downside about the game, but thats just me.
My question is more towards the structured and open world pvp, I know everything about the WvWvW. So as you go to open world pvp, people will just be in different colors? i dont really get that |

WvW is open world, There are 2 kinds of pvp in gw2. There are stuctured matches that are HoT join able, and there is WvW WvW = Large scale zones with keeps and small objectives to capture. Each having a home terriroty where the home team has a slight advantage with defense. Structured pvp = Games you can join from the interface. Battle ground style.
When your fighting people the good guys are your server Darkhaven for example, and the Bad guys are people from Sorrows Furnace (using server names from the Beta weekend). WvW fights last 2 weeks, after which you are matched up with servers who are more suited. So if your sever sucks at PvP you are matched up with other servers who also suck ass =) The way mmo's were: Community, Exploration, Character Development, Conquest.
The way mmo's are now : Cut-Scenes,Cut-Scenes, Linear Story, Cut-Scenes...

Thanks for clearing this up guys. Im actually really disappointed and shocked at the answers though, i never had a problem with the game till now. No world pvp sucks that is the most fun pvp type (WvW is not a consistant thing) and the fact that there is no real enemies but the same class/race as you are but in just different colors is kind of a turn off, there is no real difference in players bascially, but the colors/playstyle ofcourse. Unfortunatly I guess ill have to do more digging before pre-purchasing :( |

GW2 structured lore and WvW lore are both tied, the reason it is called the mists is because you are dead in this place. The battles in structured are ancient Guild battles from the real world that replay themselves in the mists, and I think its somewhere along the same lines in WvW, so its still a Guild vs. Guild type of thing, rather than factions lorewise.
