This is my own opnion:

The concept of the game was very interesting but the execution is poorly done .

Yeah, yeah, so I played for a single open beta weekend. I had to hold back the gag reflex and force myself to relog in over and over because the fanbois keep saying soming good is here but it isn't. This game is about a month away from launch and I don't see any serious improvements with the animations, badly styled story cut-scenes & clunky combat being really possible in that short of a time span. Maybe a year from now after you all have funded finishing their beta development with a monthly fee it might turn out but it's not worth $50 to find out so to me this is a loosing bet.

I just loath it when my avatar looks like he's going to break down and cry during the cut-scenes, epic failure, so much magic wielding death machine!

I'm just glad I purchased through amazon so I could easily cancel this pre-order.

A smart man looks over the evidence and doesn't delude himself into believing in something that isn't there. I wish the best for anyone wanting to play this but this IS Funcom, and history has repeatedly shown this to be one of the worst MMO shops out there.

Bring on the flames, I could care less, my money's safe in my pocket!

Played:EQ,AO,EQ2,WoW,EvE,War,FE,STO,DCUO,Rift,SWTOR

That has fit every Funcom game in the past from Beta to the end of year 1 of release so I would say you are right on target.

I am afraid I have to completely agree with this statement. The brilliance of this game just does not out shine it's issues.

Can I ask why you put the word free in quotes?  I both agree and disagree with your overall impressions.  I liked the game and thought the combat was fairly mediocre.  I didn't really think it was bad, just mediocre.  But the questing and character build systems were enough to make up for it to me.

I'm hoping Amazon and similar distributors enact a policy where preorders cannot be cancelled, specifically so that people like you who abuse the preorder system in order to get a free trial can no longer do so.

It is a truely fantasic setting and premise, shame the gameplay can't match te atmosphere.

*Wipes the rabbid fanboi foam off Kost's mouth.* There there, even if they did, there are always credit card chargebacks.

JeroKane: In TSW your gear has NO stats whatsoever! But only via trinkets and talismans.

Myself: Please, stop posting, I can't breath I'm laughing so hard at that statement.

that's really upto the game sort of like GW2 they restricted it so you had to buy it from a place that charged you instead of charged on delivery like amazon.. i don't see a big deal though you pre-order get into beta find out game isn't for you so you cancel and saved yourself the money.. hows that an issue? it's not like you are taking someone elses spot since anyone who pre-ordered got into CB

I angered the clerk in a clothing shop today. She asked me what size I was and I said actual, because I am not to scale. I like vending machines 'cause snacks are better when they fall. If I buy a candy bar at a store, oftentimes, I will drop it... so that it achieves its maximum flavor potential. --Mitch Hedberg

Pretty quick to judge, considering you've barely experienced anything the game has to offer, and have only played with the most basic combat abilities. Everything that adds complexity is locked out for the weekend test.

So unless you are a CB tester, and that CB testing experience is how you formed your opinion, current judgements based on only the weekend test have little to no real validity to them.

Agreed completely. I hate how people think they deserve to try out a game in beta before launch. If you want to try out a game to test if you like it or not, it should be in the form of a free trial/demo.

It seems to be more sensible (and less frothing at the mouth vengeful) to acknowledge that the reason people do that is because the developers offer no other way for a person to see if they like the game before investing $40, $50, $60 or even more to discover it isn't for them.

filmoret: One thing I have never figured out is why the game devs hardly ever fix simple problems that arise. It is like they don't care about the pvp community.

Nitth: What makes you so sure its a simple fix?

filmoret: Because most of them are. Sometimes its just changing a number in a code string other times its creating a few variables. However none of them should take over a few hours of coding.

Because beta is not a free trial, and the very action of preordering to gain access with the intention of cancelling afterwards is dishonest?

Yeah I know, things like honesty and morals tend to be lost on people these days. The fact that you required an explanation for my above statement is a perfect indicator of just how lost those values have become.

problem is not ALL games offer an open beta.. nowadays most do but not all so if I don't want to waist money on something I may not like then thats the only choice you have.

Which was never a problem during the late 80s, 90s and early 2000s. People purchased the game, played, and if they didn't like it they never played it again and chalked it up as "shit happens".

So why is it an issue now?

Well, because of the level of entitlement that has risen exponentially over the last seven years within this genre. People now feel entitled to a trial ahead of time now so they can dodge a chance at buyers remorse. That is all there is to it.

Guess what? When I bought FF8 in 1999 and didn't feel it was as good as FF7, I left it at that. If I had gone back to the store and told them that I wanted a refund because the game was not as good as I was led to believe they would have laughed me out of the building.

The only thing that has changed is people's overentitled attitudes towards gaming purchases.

One sign that a review should be ignored is when it is either ALL good or ALL bad. The reality is, every game has a mixture of both(even though some have more of one than the other), so anyone who thinks a game is only one extreme or the other is deluded by their own bias. Your statement above highlights this fact, when you say that there was nothing "good". Its fine if the game isnt for you, and once I play it I may find it isnt for me either. However the fact that your review is so competely biased towards one extreme only makes it worthless.

If it wasn't for the lackluster and crappy quality of games out now I may agree.. but there's just so much recycled grabage out there now its a lot harder to find decent games you may like. Back when games were new and emerging this wasn't as big of an issue although of course there was still a lot of crap and yes I wish I could go back and had a way to test a game back in the 80s and 90s before I bought it would of saved me a LOT of money.. sorry if that makes me shallow

Wow so Funcom decided to make a special FU version of the game for the open beta people did they? The CB has the same animations, same combat, same 90% fetch/kill quests, same poor character creator that the weekend beta does. And you know what? Unless Funcom delays launch (not going to happened) what is in the beta weekend is pretty much the same game we are going to see at launch.

Really? Honesty and morals? Doesnt even play into it.

The poster used options that were available to him. Nothing illegal, dishonest or morally wrong about it.

I could say it was immoral for the Funcom to lure people into preordering with beta invites.

For all you know Funcom was using the preorder/beta system to let people try their game without fear of commitment.

And how long does it take for someone to play to figure out they dont like the gane? Op played it, didnt like it, whats more to say? Youre trying to tell us he needed to play more to figure out he didnt like it?

Whoops looks like someone spent Mother's Day sitting on the couch watching Fox News for a little too long...

Funcom's Anarchy Online at release. Now that was dishonest and immoral.
