I have been fascinated by Lovecraftian horror for 15 years and I'm a New Englander, so to me the setting and mood are spot on. The quests where I have to use environmental clues to advance are terrific. I like the music and the sound effects. I think the story is solid. And I can't stand the combat.

I'm using some tier 3 abilities and from what I've seen they're more advanced versions of the basic. And I seem to have to unlock everything in a tier to move to the next, so I'm picking up a ton of abilities that i don't want. And franky, I do not like spamming one button to build up resources. And as I said, I want each encounter to feel more "life threatening" than simply annoying. I'm killing stuff to see more of the story and environment, it's almost a barrier to my enjoyment.

Fewer mobs, more "dangerous" combat, don't tell me exactly where and when a mob is going to use their big attack, and give me combat that's more savage and I'm a happy camper.

man I wish I could tell you something, but I can't.  I'll put it this way.  You need to get to the next zone.  I hope you have that chance in the future.

The combat stuff?  I don't know what to say about that.  There has been instances I've switched up the combat, but the base idea of it doesn't change.  I have noticed focusing on multiple weapons help.  I just can't stand the assault rifle much, but started focusing more on elemental and my experience got better.

I'm pretty high up there (you're probably farther), but I didn't have the same experience of all the mobs being a cake walk.  I had to pay attention where I was going as I was playing the game.  I have been able to steamroll the earlier stuff, but that was after a few hours of play.

Oh I'm a big Lovecraft fan too.  It just keeps getting better.  Remember that Kingsmouth is just one area in Solomon Island.

For me I'm getting the game and I will also have GW2.  I plan on playing the amazing dungeons/PvE content in TSW and PvP my arse off in GW2.

"If you can''t laugh at yourself there''s always someone around to show you how it''s done!"

There seem to be a rash of threads popping up all over in some kind of " I quit the fastest & here is the aborted foetus of my reasoning why" competition, I swear trolls are just trying to out-troll each other now.

It's Troll-Wars!

If you walk into a new title with a huge bunch of rigid pre-conceptions then guess what Einstein, you're going to be severely disappointed, but it's okay you probably wanted to be disappointed in the first place so you could get your Troll mode on.

TSW has a few rough edges but it's a theme park that has put a plentiful supply of new twists on the old MMO model.

The funny thing is if there were no quests people would complain there is no direction, guess what, you don't have to quest if you don't want to, go mob-grind if you want.

Complaining about only having 2-3 skills to start with is ridiculous, you do know that MMO's are a progressive game (you do know what progression is I hope?) what did you expect, all 525 just handed to you at the beginning - what would you be playing for then?

I feel like this was a deliberate troll & I''m sure I've fallen hook-line & goddamn sinker for it.

You know, if they put the combat style of GW2 in TSW it would be amazing. And while I can't say anything either, I am familiar with the Savage Coast which is why I think the story and setting are so terrific, but even there, the combat is still the combat and that makes me sad.

"Loading screens" are not "instances".

Ok after you finished 2 quests you deem the game.

I have not played TSW and probobly wont ,not for the next few months anyway.

But after just 2 quests you deside the game is no good, how is that possible. What did you expect, you dont like killing zombies, would you rather kill boars? What kind of quests do you want? Maybe a quest where you fry some egg and bacon for brekfast or maybe brush the teeth and having a nice shit? What kind of quests do you expect from the games?

No, just no that utter bullshit. You are thrown into kingsmouth and you are free to do whatever quests you like in that zone. There is a main story quest but it's optional not anywhere near as annoying as what SWToR had. You can only have very few quests active at a time giving you more focus instead of making it feel like a checklist. The there's investigation missions wich when completing is probably the most rewarding feeling I've had in an MMO.

Bottom line if you're gonna play this like WoW then don't play at all.

Get into the skill system, take in the environment and characters, explore the world more and then come back with a fucking opinion.

I sat down to play a game of chess. I quit after the first move. First move was limited to moving a pawn or knight. Are you kidding me? Game clearly has no strategy or depth...

I didn't like the game after 2 quests either... but 4 hours later I had to force myself to go to bed because I had work this morning.

I would say a lot of MMOs are like good books and movies. You can't read the first few pages or watch the first 10 minutes and say it sucks.

I may not play long because I'll be playing GW2, but I'll buy TSW and play it till at least then.

All I heard was... "Well aren't you just a little lolly pop triple dipped in psycho."

Judging by his initial patience, even if he did manage to get into the "real" quests, i doubt he'd manage to hold on for more than few hours, since they can require some sort of patience and intellect.

Judging by OP's other posts he hates every game aside from Skyrim.

THE STRONGEST!!!

5/13/12 8:58:40 AM#90

The first impression was spoiled by some stupid bug that screwed up some files in TSW folder so I had to repair it 3 times with 2GB downloads. BtW my friend had done it 2 times and we had to do something else while waiting for each other, and quite a lot of people were complaining about that bug on the forum. How could they screw up the weekend beta test so much? I mean it was a common bug among weekend testers, it was quite severe (30-40min downloads = not fun) and how was it possible? Did the game modify its files while running so in case of crash we have to download 2 gigs again, or was it some very poor coding that didnt allow the game to revert/use the default settings in case the game crashed, instead of downloading whole lots of shit?

Bugs aside, story was OK, I didnt really enjoy it (had a laugh though) but it was somewhat refreshing and enjoyable, dead city and stuff. What drove me away from it is combat. It was way too simple and (thus) boring. 4 types of debuffs, some "weapons/magic/melee" benefits from one or two of them while providing some of them, and they have some buffs/debuffs (heal/tank/dmg stuff) and range, thats all - this is all diversity you'll get. No aiming, no active blocking, running around and stuff, just the usual "select the target and spam skills in order" thing.

While some people might enjoy the story and the atmosphere of the game, gameplay-wise its stone-age old, Funcom has a lot of work to do to make up for that. But, oh well, SWTOR was a great single-player game (some people say its MMO, but dont trust them as they are obviously lying).

IZI MODO?! Ha-ha-ha!

I can't say anything either, but as others suggested, it sounds like you guys who are quitting early need to give the game a little time to get going.

Does logging off after two quests even qualify as an impression?

It's like not even listening to a band because you didn't like the way their name's pronounced.

The fact that this does not appeal to a lot of the Wow kids, appeals to me !! We need games like this!

To put this differently. TSW isn't geared towards the ADD generation of video gaming. It's less about instant gratification and more about story and exploration. This is a good thing. People want something different than WoW and SWTOR but when something different comes a long they don't like it. Fair enough, but don't complain when everything is just a clone of WoW beause you're not willing to give anything a chance past the first 2 quests.

The starter quests are basically a tutorial on how game mechanics function without being so obvious.

The quest system is actually pretty ingenious dynamic and fun, and I found myself laughing out loud at some of the humor and wit in the dialogs.

Pouring napalm down the sewer and all the flaming zombies pouring out of the manholes all the way down the road had me really laughing.

No, u're going to do another 9 quests like that before u find 1 quest that has a good puzzle or riddle.

The question of this game is do you want to waste 90 percent of your time doing crap to get to the 10 percent reward.  Another big problem with puzzles in rpgs (and this is a long standing tabletop rpg argument) is that unlike everything in an rpg, there's usually only 1 way to take down the puzzle.

For instance, i find a note that says that the code to the safe is the the last song the priest sings.  Why cant i just ask the priest?  I'm sure that i can get it out of him without revealing my intent. Or ask one of the still NPCs?

This isn't a generation thing.  This isn't even about gratifications.  This is the same ole quests with only 1/10 of them based on the games theme.

It's the rift's dynamic rifts

It's the tera cross hair

It's the aion flying

It's the we will only do one thing and one thing only different way of game design from the rpevious mmo.  90 percent of this game is mundane quests.  There were times i replaced the atmosphere in my head with a wow setting and i couldn't tell the difference. (partly cause the animation and graphics are some 8 years old.

This is way beyond dumb did u actually read the quest or do you want a simple WOW kill 10 rats type game, the bloody woman is a agent why on earth would the priest know the combination to a safe that he knows nothing about ?

And it's not what he sings it's the congregation song play list.Good god is it so difficult to read a bit of text and use a bit of brain power,or do i just possess common sense.
