Big question is, what is there to do, other than those quests? I keep seeing people ask, but have yet to see an answer. When I tried just running around, I found a whole lot of pretty scenery, and nothing to do. When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world. |

I wonder if the quest the OP mentioned does have an impact later on in the game since its a quest series that helps you and your faction to gathe rinformations as to how the zombies behave and how to fight them best. Thats why you start killing them than try to attract them with the sound of a car alarm (by jumping on the car) after that you blow up a gas tank and lure them into the fire and than you are examining there food (dead pppl) after doing all that you do send your report and your faction tells you what they learned. Would be cool if that actually affects stuf later on tho. Anyway i dont know if it does affect iot or not but i sure as hell know that doing this quest is a way waaay different than lets say kill 6 boars now kill 6 scorpions etc or maybe an go and feed a cow/bear. Btw if you didnt do the Kingsmouths secrets quest (finding a Illuminaty treasure) and actually solved this riddle without help you havent seen shit anyway..... So if you are bored of the quests go to the church and do the quests of the priest at least 1 of them will blow you away...if not you prolly are playing the wrong game. |

However if your going to have static quests this is about as good as it can get. And the setting and little setting details are the best I've seen in an MMO. And building a character with this skill system seems a bit unclear to me at this point. I think it's going to be nice. If they could just get a bit of solo combat to include some thought/strats they will have a solid game on their hands. |

I dont get it. This is the second thread I saw today with the similar statement. I'll be honest, yes the first hour feels a bit drawn out and the same old thing. But, just like every mmo out there, the first hour is setup to get you use to the controls and UI. After that it picks up.
**spoilers next**
I will give an example of a neat situation that happened later on in game. I was sent to Dr Bannerman's clinic to check some files on the computer about some patients of his. However the Dr. failed to give me the password to log in to the computer. But there was two hints given from the computer when you type "hint". One, "Seasons of Music", and the other "1723". At that point I remembered that Funcom said that there will be puzzles that can only be solved by using the internet. I plugged those two hints into google and wiki gave me the Composers name of the song "The Four Seasons". I plugged in the name on the terminal in game and I was in Dr. Banners patient files.
Other quests, like from the psychic gives you clues where you are to search without giving away the actual named location and no quest marker is put on the map for that quest. You simply have to figure out what area you are to search based on the info she gives from her visions. Such as "Top of the Pyramid". Which is a place called Pyramids Point. That one is just an easy one and the first one she gives. Others dont have the word in the location names.
I would of missed the little things like that if I gave up after a few quests. Some may not think that is very fun, and thats okay. But those quests there put some immersion into the game, and made me feel like I was playing an investigator.
I feel sorry for the folks that dont honestly try to give the game a chance.

Best quests in any MMO ever, you actually need to figure shit out! Sure it has it's share of kill this and that, but beyond those, there's a ton of "brand new" types of quests, it's like playing a real adventure game with puzzles and stuff i've yet to see in ANY MMO! The TSW forums are littered with "WoW-generation" gamers crying for help on quests, being stuck on quests, even claiming quests broken simply because they cannot figure shit out!
This game is not for the mentally challenged, your hand in most cases (quests) will not be held. Currently playing: FTB Ultimate Waiting for: Wildstar, ArcheAge, Class4. Dead and Buried: GW2, SWTOR, Darkfall, AO, AC2, Vanguard, CoH/V, EnB, EVE, Neocron, FE, EQ, EQ2, DAoC, FFXI, SWG, WoW, and billions of eastern junks! |

people say they don't want the standard themepark and yet they won't try anything new. no i don't consider 2 quests trying.
the only thing bad about this game is the combat and the questing systems makes it bearable. |

Originally posted by Mephster You were in the very first actual gam eplay area. Had kep on, you would have gotten a lot fo quests centered around the mystery that is taking place in the town. People are basing opinions on the first area you play in a huge world. Granted in the BETA weekend you can't progress much, but if you get past the first couple quests (which are very basic, I admit) you will see what people that gave it a chance see. Yes there are quests that give you very obscure clues that you need to think about to figure out. This game will NOT appeal to everyone, it just won't I get that, but if you're going to bash it, at least give it more than a few minutes. Or sound ignorant, the choice is yours. |

Originally posted by Mephster Haha for initial impressions. Pretty sure your first 2 quests mentioned are optional ones as well. Don't even need to talk to that guy, it just helps explain game mechanics further like car alarms draw in zombies and fire hurts them and you (and other players lol). |

I hope all people like the OP decides not to buy TSW. Or any game for that matter. i want them to keep waiting for that perfect, Holy Grail, of a game that will never come. |

I have about 20 hours logged on TSW so far, and it kinda makes me sad. I wish someone could take the world environments and most of the quest system, replace the combat with something dynamic and gritty (even AoC combat would be better), and refine the whole package. In fact, I wouldn't be so annoyed by the combat if there were less of it but that each encounter somehow mattered more. If I'm being attacked by one zombie I figure I'm fighting for my life. But to stand there while mobs of 4 zombies repeatedly munch on you, ugh. To me, survival horror combat reminiscent of Resident Evil, where resources are scarce and even one zombie can kill you, would better fit this game. Instead you spam dps abilities to build charges for a better single target or aoe ability, rinse repeat. Stunning, moody environments, decent investigative quests, a good storyline, with uninteresting combat and horrid combat animations. Oh, and apparently I can freejump onto the roof of a single story building. I'm debating whether I can overlook what I don't enjoy to get to the stuff that I love. "Loading screens" are not "instances". |

Originally posted by Charlizzard Hey Char, curious as to if your opinion has moved more favorable with the game since you first played it? Also, areas within Kingsmouth have more powerful mobs depending on where you're going. The progression system has multiple areas that are more challenging based on what abilities you've unlocked. Basically go to priest island and the surrounding areas. It sounds like you're possibly ready to move on to the next area too. Which if you could advance your storyline (not allowed in Weekend Beta), you'd be headed to. |

I barely post, but I have to say something. I understand its beta, but it not's looking very promising. Combat system is terrible if you're gonna ask me, seemed like the devs had a cool idea just isn't executed right. As for how the game goes stories and other mechanics I'm sure it's not all in there yet, so I won't say much about it but so far it's terrible. Character creation ffs with all of funcom's mmo experience and whoever else developed this, you would think they would have a better character creation system. CCP has had one mmo and their character creation topples most of what other games have out there. The whole time I felt like I was playing hellgate again with a different setting instanced environment and minus the cool looking armor. |

Originally posted by jdnyc Yes, it has absolutely improved. Enough? IDK. I have been fascinated by Lovecraftian horror for 15 years and I'm a New Englander, so to me the setting and mood are spot on. The quests where I have to use environmental clues to advance are terrific. I like the music and the sound effects. I think the story is solid. And I can't stand the combat. I'm using some tier 3 abilities and from what I've seen they're more advanced versions of the basic. And I seem to have to unlock everything in a tier to move to the next, so I'm picking up a ton of abilities that i don't want. And franky, I do not like spamming one button to build up resources. And as I said, I want each encounter to feel more "life threatening" than simply annoying. I'm killing stuff to see more of the story and environment, it's almost a barrier to my enjoyment. Fewer mobs, more "dangerous" combat, don't tell me exactly where and when a mob is going to use their big attack, and give me combat that's more savage and I'm a happy camper. "Loading screens" are not "instances". |

Originally posted by Charlizzard yea the build up in their power attacks is so slow why do you even need an indicator showing you where it will hit, it would still be easy as hell to dodge without the huge indicator I angered the clerk in a clothing shop today.
