I'm very disappointed with the options available for customizing my character in the creation phase. Only the head and few options there. Will more be added by the time the game launches? |

Did SW:TOR's character creation improve? There's your answer. No MMORPG EVER improves their character creation. |

I was expecting APB style creator and instead got something from 10 years ago. What's worse is the female models all look like crack whores or men with wigs. |

They'll very likely add a few things, but it'll probably still have the same core problems. It's just badly done, and I highly doubt they're going to replace it with something entirely different. Hate to say this, but even TOR's was better. I don't imagine they'd be letting so many people see it this way, if they really had any alternative. When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world. |

Well for AoC character creation was worse at launch than it was in beta. Apparently there were some issues with armors fitting a variety of body types so they removed a lot of the effect some sliders had. |

from the front page of mmorpg.com "EDITOR's NOTE: Since publishing this article, we've heard some feedback from Funcom about our concerns with character creation and the animations. Director of Communications, Erling Ellingsen, told us that the character creation is indeed very much limited in this beta build, and will be more fully fleshed out in the future with options and the like. As for animations, Erling explained two things. One is that there are many animations which are not yet final in this build. The second part is that because of the team's decision to allow characters to move while casting skills, they had to untie the upper body from the lower body in the animations. This means there will be times when swinging a sword or using your fist weapons will look odd, but it's the price they've had to pay for allowing players the ability to move while attacking at any time. Basically, it becomes more difficult to structure animations that always look perfect when the characters can't move during the animations." |

Read the Beta weekend #1 message on the launcher, if you scroll down to where it says Important information you'll notice they say a few things will be different at launch including more character creation options. Read into it what you will of course.
Says more appearance and clothing options will be added, new background scenes (?), GUI changes, tutorial system made for BWE, not final. For every minute you are angry , you lose 60 seconds of happiness."-Emerson If you can't argue the point don't say anything at all. |

I really hope it will improve because it's my only problem with TSW atm. I want to be a fat git with glasses saving the world. |

This is more like a demo than a beta.
As such this beta test has far more in common with Blizzard's "open beta" for Diablo 3 than TERA's open beta weekends. |

Not to break any NDA things here but I can assure you things will be added to character creation when the game is released. Do yourself a favor next time before posting and read the things that are put on your download notes before ya know.. play it. [mod edit] |

Originally posted by JuJutsu You don't actually believe this garbage do you? There will be some more clothes and hair styles at launch. That's it. This game launches in 5 weeks and if they haven't got the animations down yet they aren't going to be ready at launch. Oh and it's got nothing to do with casting while moving unless they decided that AFTER they did all the animations which I can find not proof of. You would be wise to treat these promises with about as much trust as you would your local neighborhood crack head to walk your dog while away on a business trip.

If they had a better character creation, wouldn't they have put it in the weekend beta rather than having thousands of people playing the game for the first time trashing the current poor character creation on web sites? Maybe this will be the rare exception miracle release day patch, but I wouldn't bet on it. What you see now is most likely what you'll get. CU FP#0: The game must be fun. This overrides all the other FPs. Interested in: TESO, Wildstar, CU |

Originally posted by JuJutsu You two must not be familiar with Erling Ellingsen, he will say anything to alleviate public pressure. He outright lied while doing PR for AoC time and time again, contradicted his own statements constantly, and is generally known among the mmorpg community (at least those of us that have been around awhile) as one of the most untrustworthy people in the industry. He is the main reason the company was dubbed FailCom during the AoC era. He blatently fabricated statements to try and create added consumer interest in the product. When consumers actually had a chance to play the game, and realized that most of what he claimed had been falsified information to drive up interest, he did interviews (a few with Jon Wood actually on this very site) and tried to save face by lying further and never, ever admitting the mistakes the company made. It took him four months just to get the balls to apologise for his original statements, and when that time came he just continued lying anyway in spite of the apology he made and his insistence that he "completely understands the concerns" of the playerbase at that time. He was the guy that said AoC had an amazing launch. He was the guy that said performance in AoC from beta to launch was excellent. He was the guy that said he didn't feel that AoC PvP was a major part of the game, in order to try and make people forget that the Siege System was horribly broken right out of gate. One of the games keystone features. He was the guy that openly claimed that FunCom never censors negative statements on there forums, and if you were around at launch you know how laughable that statement was. Censorship was beyond rampant, any thread with an even slightly negative connotation was quickly deleted and the poster was given an immediate infraction. Remember Tahitoa? I wouldn't go putting all your eggs into one basket just yet...

Originally posted by alkrmr For anyone that has no idea about Funcoms or Elingsens history. This was said also said about Anarchy Online and Age of Conan. Anarchy Online is still believed to be the worst launch in MMORPG history, even worse than Horizons, It took them near 6 months to stabilize the servers and over a full year to make the game consistantly playable...yet they said the above, the current issues are fixed in the final build. They addressed player concerns about what they thought was missing or needed improvement the same way. Age of Conan was the same...and if you go to that games website now, the last big update actually addressed one the top player concerns from Beta...the crafting system...4 YEARS later. Yet they said at the time in beta, it will be more fully fleshed out in the future. The future...is a long time away with Funcom. This is yet another sign that Funcom has not changed a bit and that TWS is history repeating itself. “I hope we shall crush...in its birth the aristocracy of our moneyed corporations, which dare already to challenge our government to a trial of strength and bid defiance to the laws of our country." ~Thomes Jefferson |
