I just thought about the OP is right

Guys remember to take tax into consideration.

Try to argue this please.

Oh also if you quote me and it's to argue my point, if I don't respond it means I haven't been corrected by you and/or I haven't seen it. Remember I don't mind admitting I am in the wrong. Take care :D

There is something that might considered tax. The fact that it costs more for someone from EU than from someone in the US, but it's the same with all games.

the question is  does that cash shop have this problem?

That's actually a good question. If 100 gems in the US are 10 dollars and in the EU 10 euro, and the auction house communicates with both EU and US servers, it could be considered that US players have an advantage in the CS over EU ones. If AH is divided in EU and US servers, then it's not a problem.

Trust me.  Your GW2 enjoyment will double with the pirate outfit.

GW2 isn't P2W, it's P2GMLADS.  (Pay 2 giggle madly like a demented schoolgirl)  That pirate outfit is some fun stuff. :(  I don't care if you think you've been enjoying GW2 before, it's nothing compared to the unfettered glee the pirate outfit brings.

No worries, it won't work in PvP or dungeons.

If you're a thief, you get access to a bandit/pirate armor once you hit tier 2 with you glory. Actually, I'm not sure if it's only available to thieves or for all medium armor classes.

You can see it in this video.

Valatar

Welcome to Guild Wars 2, new player! We’re the fun new game where you don’t pay a monthly fee to play! But you do realize of course that we need money to keep up our servers and update the game, so there are a few modest cash store items to help cover our costs. But it’s probably nothing that you actually need, so don’t pay any attention to it!

How do you like the classes? They’re all great fun, aren’t they? We bet you’d like to play them all! But not so fast, you only have five character slots. If you want the other three, you’ll just need to make a one-time payment in the cash shop to unlock them. It’s only 800 gems per slot, so for only 2400 gems you’ll be on your way!

What’s that, adventurer? Your bags are full? Why shucks, have we got a deal for you! You have seven bag slots, but we locked three of them so you’d have room to grow! For an insignificant 400 gems, you can unlock one bag slot on one character. Of course, if you have eight characters, that’s twenty-four slots, but hey, what’s a little 9600 gems between friends for the luxury of being able to carry things?

Oh, you wanted to actually be able to store things? Like, in a bank? Well other MMOGs make you spend nasty gold to have more than 30 bank slots, but not us! You can just buy them with gems! We’ve helped you out by making the sky the limit and locked a whopping seven bank expansions at 600 gems each, so you can feel extra accomplished when you pull out your credit card to pay for the 4200 gems for that.

tl;dr:
At the current listed rates, you have to pay 16,200 gems to have eight characters with unlocked inventory and bank slots in GW2. With the assumption that the conversion rate is $1=100 gems, that’s $162 dollars above and beyond the box cost of the game. Edit: The actual gem price is believed to be $5=400 gems, which makes the cost $202.50 for those 16200 gems. A year’s subscription to WoW is $156 if purchased in six-month blocks, making it ironically cheaper to play a year of WoW than a year of GW2.

Bear in mind that I’m ignoring vanity items, convenience items, and keys in this tally. Those are all entirely optional, and a player can take or leave those without any particular penalty. I’m focusing entirely on the one universal constant of any MMOG: storage. It’s the thing that is indisputably vital for every player, that nobody can afford to be without, and everybody absolutely requires. Anyone who doesn’t purchase bag and bank space is going to be regretting it, deeply and often. I don’t consider it optional, and doubt that anyone with any length of experience in online games would disagree with me on that.

There needs to be an alternative option to gems for purchasing in-game storage. There’s no telling what the gold value of gems will be after the game’s release, but if the beta weekend’s average around 20 silver per gem holds true, it will cost 120 gold per bank expansion and 80 gold per bag slot, which are fairly ridiculous amounts. Edit: My numbers for the silver price for gems was incorrect, see below.

Alternatively, making the bag slots an account-wide purchase rather than a per-character purchase would save the eight-character player 8400 gems, making the grand total a much more reasonable sum.

Disclaimer:
All of this hinges on beta test gem prices for cash shop items, and involves an assumption on the cash price for gems. Either of those two things may change before release. My goal in bringing this to peoples’ attention is not to incite panicked nerd rage, but to make people aware of the potential cash cost in GW2’s gem store model of business, and the fact that it may be no less expensive than other games with monthly fees.

I'm sorry OP, but you are completely wrong.  Do you realize that ANet is acting as the bar setter?  They will have their own baseline conversion rate based on the market, so say you can convert X Gold for X amount of gems with the shop itself, no player will be able to sell his gems for more gold then that baseline.  Why would a person give more gold for less gems to a person when they can get more from ANet, unless they aren't informed.  Basically this ends up favoring the player who actually plays and gets gold, because the people selling their gems will always have to undercut the baseline ANet conversion price no matter what.  Thus, all of these things can be free no matter what, and you can get them all with gold.  What other game can you spend in game money to get character slots, server transfers, etc..??

I hope you can!

Since it is a set of town clothing, and automatically deactivates when you're in combat, and none of the abilities are anything other than emotes.

*thinks a bit*  Oh, wait, no, it's probably better you can't use it in WvW.  I just remembered you can summon a cannon.

Sure, it doesn't do any damage, but it might scare somebody really badly if you bluff with it!

Don't like quoting myself, by I am curious about this. Anyone know how this will work or it hasn't been revealed yet?

Which is a lie (or an omission by ignorance), because the bank also has a tab where you can stock unlimited crafting materials right from your character's inventory in the wilds.

Yeah, I'm quoting my own post because I'd like an answer to this. The person I'm quoting seems to conveniently ignore that point... I wonder why.

Your power of necromancy is surging.

I should have added the crafting materials tab. It did slip my mind. Feel better?

I would say most people who love alts will choose to purchase extra bank tabs. If those people don't know going in they will have to pay for additional bank space. Then they may pay more than they thought they would when they originally bought the game.

the problem is that because the title of topic have "might" there turn this all pointless. any game or anything might cost more you than you think. tell me a game where cant might cost you more than you tought?

for now this game cant migh me cost more than i tought because i dont need anything from shop, but i dont know the future. im think spend money on game every 1 year with expansion but if they realease expansion every 10 months that the game will cost me more than i tought in begining.

so tell me how this topic isnt pointless?  "migh" and "if" the two words that make many things pointless.

The problem with my title is it isn't "GW2 is Revolutionary".

AoC didn't cost me more than I thought. I bought it at the price listed and knew beforehand it had a subscription fee. Now if I was new to mmo's and subscription models then AoC may have cost more than I had orginally thought.

This topic isn't pointless because some people have learned things they didn't know beforehand.

so AoC didnt cost more than you tough because you stop playing the game, if you paly today obvious will cost more than you tough, so yes it MIGHT could cost you more than you tought in begining. the game was P2P and became F2P how can you give an example of AoC as a game that cant MIGHT you cost more than you tough? all F2P will not MIGHT cost you more than you tough it for sure cost more than you tough ...

it didnt cost more than you tough but the possible was there

l will  not spend any money on shop of GW2 for now, dont exist anything good there for me but in future you know?? that is where "MIGHT" make everything pointless, you cant see the future.

tell me, if you try a game and love so much the game that you end buy a guide or a t-shirt or other thing, arent you spend more money than you tough in begining? is a possible so yes, any game can migh cost more than you think

if you can ensure me GW2 cash shop will not have any change forever and the expansion they realease is 1 for year, than GW2 will not cost not even 1€ more than i tough.

and what is GW2 revolutionary have something with this topic ? GW2 revolutionary? for me isnt...is a EVOLUTION of other games and that is something very good.

They want more money to maintain their servers, pay for staffing, etc. What a concept.

I'll happily pay them money above and beyond the price of the initial game because I love the game so much and I want to see it grow. I have no issue paying for something that's solid and that I enjoy.

l will  not spend any money on shop of GW2 for now, dont exist anything good there for me but in future you know?? that is where "MIGHT" make everything pointless, you cant see the future.

tell me, if you try a game and love so much the game that you end buy a guide or a t-shirt or other thing, arent you spend more money than you tough in begining? is a possible so yes, any game can migh cost more than you think

if you can ensure me GW2 cash shop will not have any change forever and the expansion they realease is 1 for year, than GW2 will not cost not even 1€ more than i tough.

and what is GW2 revolutionary have something with this topic ? GW2 revolutionary? for me isnt...is a EVOLUTION of other games and that is something very good.

I'm not sure if it's language barrier, but I'm honestly having a hard time trying to understand you. I gave you specific examples and you ran off on some tangent.

I understand you are very passionate about the game. You seem to take issue whenever anybody says anything, that might possibly be construed as negative about GW2.

I'm obviously not going to convince you of anything and you aren't going to convince me of anything. So let's agree to disagree and leave it at that.

I'm cool with it. I honestly dislike the monthly fee system, since it can discourage players coming back to the game who are tight on cash. This way here, it's basically 'to each to their own' when it comes to throwing money at Anet.

I'm not a big spender, so I don't plan on buying anything else other than extra character slots and bags.
