Do we really need more than this for this thread?

It's doing well in all markets but Japan (which if you knew much about the JP market, the only online RPG's to -ever- do well there are FFXI and Monster Hunter. MMORPG do not do well in Japan, simple as that, especcially if PC only.)

It also was released incomplete over there and far far more polished here.

Hate to break it to you, but in that same link that you quoted, they mention that those numbers aren't the most accurate to use.

Going off the 'Amazon Sales Chart', one would think that each concurrent new game is a new all-time best seller. Which, anyone with a shred of common sense & access to Google would know is pure bullsh*t. It may be a decent way to compare games that are coming out at roughly the same time, but even then it's not the most accurate. It only takes into account for amazon sales, and furthermore it skews how each sale is weighed based on how new the game is.

Amazon's charts are anything but an accurate barometer for how successful a game is doing. It's about as accurate as using this site's 'hype-meter', only it gets updated more often.

Well, alot of the servers in TERA keep experiencing long que times and the game seems to be getting a good deal of positive words.

You also ignored the other bit of my post.

Honestly my only concern right now is whether or not I am enjoying myself playing the game, which I most definitley am.  Whether or not it beats GW2 in subs or whatever other metric .. really means zero to me  (beyond the hope that the game survives of course)  but really , why stress over speculation , when you can just play and enjoy I say.

The main reason i failed in Japan is coz it cost 35 dollar a month to play -.- it was far too expansive for most people and i still have no idea why its so expansive.

That, and MMORPG simply DO NOT DO WELL IN JAPAN

Historically, the only MMORPG's or even Online games that do well, are those on consoles. If TERA was on the PS3 it'd be doing amazingly right now.

Oh WOW!  The Same expert who chimed in another thread offering NO facts about why he believes that TERA is extremely gear dependant other than his own personal beliefs now chimes in here saying that its a grind fest...

Yet people hit 60 on day 2...

I love facts...

Farming endless times to get a drop?

Is THAT why they upped the drop rates?

I love how you use the cliche'd like 'same old quests' someones clearly been lurking in the TERA forums reading around and now decided to regurgitate what hes seen.

Sadly its untrue.

Could be due to something outside of the company. You see, Japan is also INCREDIBLY XENOPHOBIC, they treat even games outside their own country with a heavy handful of contempt. Especcially from other Asian nations.

i do wonder though, how much is the monthly fee for other MMORPG in Japan? This could be their standard  for all we know.

Putting it into an easier perspective

There is a  reason why there are very very few Japanese only PC games or even Japanese devs who make PC games. And even then, the games made can be played on  just about any computer: Japanese gamers do not play on the PC. PC is seen as a western thing and they avoid it like the plague.

I bought it the last monday, all i can say about thera is: I dont gonna buy another korean MMO in my life. Is like i have been doing the same quest since level 1. After the free month tera will be a game for a niche group of players.

I tried to get a little perspective on why you said what you did, and I noticed in your post history that you had high hopes for SW:TOR, and after people started saying how much they disliked it and were done with it, you kinda blew up. Went back to April, and every single one of your posts is a hate post on whatever forum you go to... particularly GW2, seems like if people are not in TOR, they shouldn't be in any game at all.

Anyways, the playstyle you are looking for is definately not TERA, you were correct in that, but that doesn't mean its not for other people. You might call us a "niche" group, but we seem to be a pretty large niche... and that is enough to keep the game we enjoy going.

I wish you well in whatever games you go for, and ask that you chill out a bit and try to balance your complaining posts with some good posts... even if it is only for the game you enjoy. Reading your history was like going through a bitter aloe salve. Anyone that has ever tasted it knows what I mean.

Thank you for the replies, I think some of you did really mention important points. Iam actually not playing this game but did watch it and was reading about it how it did in Asia 1-2 years ago.

"we "western" have a bunch of people that love grind and farming endless times to get one iten or just have easy to do quests like kill x of y.."

Did wonder a bit about this message, since Asian Grinder are famous for it. There are always people who will love it, but the masses are more into good quests, engame content, good pvp  and so on..

This is where you can get more infos about TERA in Korea, did read it lost a lot of its playerbase in the first months thats why I did start this thread, since Iam curios sometimes about the gaming industry.

Hi

5/11/12 6:02:55 AM#36

From what I've read on both the threads on this forum it seems like 'Tera flopping in Asia' is an exaggeration used by haters with nothing better to say.

yeah totally respectable thread the one with the "korean girlfriend" as only source

Instead ask yourself what  does"flop" mean for you?

Going from 47 to 18 servers (korea+japan) is a flop?

Going from most played mmorpg in Korea to 4th after Aion, Lineage and Lineage II is a flop?

Not meeting the financial targets for 2011 is a flop (despite being the most costly mmorpg prior to swtor)?

It depends on what  you think a flop is.

Like you say the word itself is not exactly defined, I could have asked aswell why the numbers did decrease or why other games were more successfull. But some informations seem to give a hint that financial expectations were not met.

These are one of the articles I did read and therefore formed my question here:

http://www.mmoculture.com/2011/08/tera-development-director-resigns.html

http://www.mmoculture.com/2011/06/tera-korea-major-server-merge-coming.html

http://www.mmoculture.com/2011/12/tera-japan-massive-server-merge-coming.html

At the end the important things were said from many contributer in this forum here and this did answer my question, thx.

The resignation was due to the legal issue, if you kept up with the he did get fined and trialed in the end.

Server merged in Korea was because of failed launch, no one is going to deny the fact thaty failed launch really hard.

Server merged in Japan because well mmorpgs don't do well in japan and it cost 35 dollar a month there, a retardly high price so many people aren't willing to pay for it.
