To be honest after playing through the beta weekend, I think GW2 is not the revolutionary game some are claiming it to be, but it's a very good evolutionary step for the MMO genre. It's an evolution, not a revolution. The "dynamic" events felt somewhat repetitive and scripted, kind of like public quests from past MMOs; however I liked the fact that I can level up exclusively through those and not have to do normal quests. I think that's an important distinction from past MMOs with public quests. In those, you had to do normal quests and public quests were just a side show. Here they are the main event, which I think is very good.

The personal story quest wasn't that great, however. The story was predictable and cliche, with Mary Sue characters and aweful cutscenes (which hopefully they change). For example, I found TOR's Inquisitor storyline, or the Imperial Agent one way more entertaning in this respect. The story didn't feel "mine" just because I chose "Always wanted to be on the circus" instead of "never found my sister's body" That just felt like a very artificial and limited way of personalizing it.

Let it be known that nothing in this field is ever revolutionary. WoW was not revolutionary and neither will anything else be. That being said I enjoyed GW2 story more than my TOR story. I'd also like to point out that you didn't get far enough to experience what the different choices in the beginning meant.

Each choice chooses a section of your story essentially. I believe it goes in order but am unsure. The questions all designate the beginning, middle, and end of your story. Your basically choosing your adventure there.

So you choosing "Always wanted to be in the circus" instead of "never found my sisters body" does actually give you two radically different storylines. This is not hearsay but confirmed. Its pretty well known now that each question asked in the beginning relates to a story arch which is pieced together depending on what you said in your beginning intro.

I hope you're joking. You would not base your decision on buying this on this horribly written rant would you? Do your own research and make your own conclusions.

I played Tera on Beta, didn't continue playing it. Played GW2, and so far so good. But will still try it in future betas. Just got my TSW beta invite for May 11 this friday, hopefully it'll be good. If not move on..

GW2 is a WOW clone???

your description of game play actually hints at some of the difference in mechanics of combat between the two....idiot!

The only thing Blizzard proved about WoW was how many idiots there are in the world willing to pay for "crap"...

instead of making wow-clone /modern themepark mmo whatever you want to call, they should stick with GW1 and make it persistant world. oh and where is GvG?

If you don't like it, don't play it.  See, problem solved.

I keep trying to tell these guys that exact same thing! But they are like flies that buzz in your ear, then they leave to land on a big pile of steaming _________. <---Insert their game here. Then they aren't happy playing on their big pile of steaming ________ so they come back and buzz your ear hoping, just hoping that your game will someday be like theirs. Why would they want another big pile of steaming __________?

Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not.

Calling GW2 a WoW clone would be like me saying I'm a Brad Pitt Clone.

Are you saying WoW is like Brad Pitt?

WoW does have the staying power of Brad Pitt, so I guess I was saying that. I wonder, does that mean Brad is a themepark?

I vote that this should become this thread's topic.

So let's ask Angelina. She took a few rides and could answer that question probably.

+1

Thread became interesting when Brad and Angelina entered the stage. Before it was quite boring. Sorry OP, you can't do better than this ?

Are you saying you are better-looking than Brad Pitt? Because that's what I got from the analogy.

Edit: If so, good on you mate.

It did come out that way, but that not what I was meaning to say. I should of said that suggesting GW2 is a WoW clone would be like me saying Brad Pitt is my clone... Or is it I'm a Danny DeVito clone. At any rate, GW2 =/= WoW.

I want to be Uncle Owen again.

Do us all a favor.

Fire up the first Guildwars. Get in a fight w/ a bow-user at maximum range, and strafe left -> right and back again. See how many shots out of 10 actually hit you. If they have a buff like 'read the wind' (makes arrows shoot twice as fast), you will probably get hit by all 10. If they shoot it at normal speed, you'll probably get hit by 5-7 or less.

It's not wise to start labelling people for discussions of which you don't know anything about.

To be honest I'd call that sidestepping rather than dodging. Just a minor distinction. Dodging is more like a last second evade in my book.

Erm, what?  In real life most times I dodge is whith a sidestep.  If you told this to a karate master he'd smack you in the head while moving forward obliquely at an angle and blocking any counter you may attempt in a simultaneous motion.

And then say "If I merely sidestepped instead of dodging why didn't you hit me?".

You should always sidestep when you can.  Moving straight backwards or diving/rolling is an act of desparation (or is something you do to partial recover from NOT avoid an attack like a throw) and is one step away from getting something bad done to you.

Anyway GW1 allows for avoidance of projectiles.  Not all spell are projectile nor are melee attacks.  But you can avoid projectiles.  Use whatever word you want.

GW1 also has hits by body location.  If you have low armor on your head and the attack hits your head you take more damage than if it hit your heavily armored chest.  Wher body part it hit is random though.

I would really like to know GW2 has hits based on body parts.

I do not feel i am in a DYANAMIC WORLD, the mobs invasion feels static. mobs stand still and respawn  15 second after it died at the same spot. which is against the "manifesto trailer".

its First Beta Weekend review/impression not final game people..

Ok wise guy. Tell us the changes you would have made to the game. Help ArenaNet out. They might take some of your ground breaking ideas with great consideration.  So how would you have done it?

I'm going to call foul on improper use of the term WoW clone. You can dislike it for what ever reason you like however calling it a clone is just a flat out lie.

Obviously doesn't know shit about GW2 or wouldn't be calling it a "WoW clone."  OR....doesn't know shit about WoW.  Either way, stupid thing to call GW2.  It's not even an opinion, it's pretending to be stating a fact.  Exactly HOW is GW2 a "WoW clone."  You can answer that and then we can argue your lame points, OR....you can just not answer, which would be the smartest thing to do in a thread full of people who have actually played GW2 AND WoW and know what a clone is.

I can't believe this thread hasn't been locked yet.  It's preposterous.
