Honestly I wouldnt decide anything untill Quiz sees the post. He/she knows thier stuff. I would say Lok is about spot on though. Just ignore everyone trying to tell you to build a regular PC. Some people just cant seem to understand people like or want laptops. The biggest thing is just being 100% sure to get what YOU want and can afford. |

Reccommendations right now is being a bit silly, because the beta's we've tried did not utilize the GPU at all. It's all CPU bound. So we don't know about which GPUs will do what.
I too would like a laptop (have a main gaming rig at home) but I would need a portable one. Anything above 13'' is too cumbersome bulky and heavy to carry around all day. And that's the point of a laptop if you use it at work/school? On the bright sight - smaller screen = smaller NATIVE resolution = less intensity on the graphics. So obviously a 650 will do better on a 13'' with 1400x1600 than a 15'' with 1920x1080! Some people don't mind lowering resolution in-game but that too is taxing due to scaling. TBF tho, the windows scaling has gotten pretty decent over the years.
Anyways..
The most powerful mobile laptops right now are; Sony Vaio SA (6630m) and Acer 3840 (540m) . Sony is much higher quality, and better screen, keyboard (backlit), and all that, but the Acer is dirt cheap and made from cheap materials.
Clevo also announced a crazy powerful little 11,6'' Gaming notebook, now that the Alienware M11x is being discontinued; http://ultrabooknews.com/2012/04/28/clevo-w110er-brings-gaming-to-11-6-ultrabook-alternative/ |

Originally posted by svann I completely disagree with this. Not only are laptops lighter now but you can get some pretty good gaming laptops that dont weigh all that much. Hell I have a beast. 18inch laptop that weighs just over 12lbs and I'm find with a regular bag. I triple stitched it myself for obvious reasons but you dont need a giant bag. |

been playing games on a laptop for 7 years now..i find it alot nicer then my desktop tbh...also the fact that pc's always are better doesnt rlly apply. Unless you want to render 3 hd movies and play an heavy game at the same time..a good laptop is more then fine |

I used my MSI gx740 (i5 450m, ati 5870m, 8GB RAM) for beta weekends and had acceptable (non-stuttering) performance on max settings with shadows.. Granted, I got below 10FPS when there was lot of people+particles on screen, but that's not a surprise.. I can only expect the perfomance to go up, as Anet gets the game more optimized for GPUs, so I'm not considering new hardware. Hope this helps.

This chart will give you a rough idea of which mobile GPUs will provide the best performance for GW2: (Click image for full resolution) The chart may not include the very latest mobile GPUs, so you may need to compare some benchmarks for other games to get an idea of relative performance. My laptop specs(hp): i5 2.3 Ghz HD 6770m 2GB 4gb ddr3 ram I tried playing the beta on it and I was getting like 40-45 fps on med-high settings while questing. The laptop costed me 650€ 6 months ago or so.

Originally posted by timeraider You are right, but atleast it should be better and better for each beta weekend. So if one of the laptops i mentioned up there works, and runs it fine, then it should be running better and better. Hopefully :-) |

overall i find going with the 15" screen and the 540m will save you almost $1000. for laptops, it's so expensive to get the higher level hardware. |

I am not sure if you mentioned how much your wanting to spend on your laptop, you can go with the 520,525 or 540m cards and it will play the game but if you spend a little more money and go up to the gtx series you will be able to run the game at higher settings. Its all personal preference. The game looks great even at low settings, so if you dont care about all the detail in the game and want high FPS performance then buy a laptop for around 600 - 850 bucks. My wife has an Asus G74 with the 560GTX and the game looked great in the Beta and it was CPU capped and wasnt even using everyones video cards . |

Im doing Middle gaphics steady with Nvidia GT555. Sometimes I can up to high but FPS drops so it feels a litle bit laggy. Anyways I do not find the graphics look much better between high and low.
Remember to buy a gaming laptop. I bought mine as an entertainment. Had temperatures in the laptop for up to 88 degrees playing gw2. Broke after a month.... I wont have it fixxed until 23 May. FML |

Not buying anything yet. At the moments these are in the price range i can afford How are they compaired to each other and GW 2. Remember i have a desktop i play on at home. This is only if i need to go to a friend and play, or if there's something on tv while i play, and travel to work. Are they ok for GW 2? which one is best, and would i be able to run with medium graphic with an ok framerate? :-)

Why not check this site which has all the possible CPU and GPU benchmarks for laptop? http://www.notebookcheck.net/ Also, have in mind that in general, "regular" laptops are more prone to overheating than "gaming" laptops, especially if they are equipped with higher performance components. Overheating=significant drop in performance.

Originally posted by Thodra number 2 has about my stats..which means you can run gw2 with everything on max as long as keep antialiasing low, join wvwvw...and still have above 30 fps (surely more once its optimised)...at least...thats what i get..when playing on a gw2 server made for western US while living in EU...and it only can get better..i hope :D even without the optimising that needs to be done i had 30 fps while recording questing with fraps while at 1920*1080 number 1 is still good, but ofc. itll perform less then number 2 at gw2
p.s. never believe benchmarks..benchmarks told me i couldnt even play crysis 2 on max without lag...i downloaded and no lag at all..there benchmark people!! eat that! |

I would consider also Lenovo Y470. It has Nvidia Geforce GT 555M, only 14" and 4.9 pounds. It is relatively light, still moreless mobile and very good gaming potential in its price range (I have never seen better price for the laptop with this graphic card ). Just my 2 cents. |
