I doubt I'd have anything against D3 as a game, but I had a lot of fun with Torchlight 2 in the short time I played it - which brings me to my other reason, it's cheap.  I don't play dungeon crawlers for more than a few weeks usually, so I don't want to spend too much.  The multiplayer aspect of both games is a good thing, however.  I might get D3 when it comes down in price.

     Ah, that makes sense. In that case, yes. I'd suggest T2. The multiplayer aspect is great in both and is a nice draw for games like this. Enjoy. I may pickup T2 but most of my time will be spent in D3 I predict. So in the future, if we ever are playing the same game, I'll check what your up to.

TL2 is looking interesting but so is Path of Exile. I hope they have an open beta or beta weekend for TL2 before release, I haven't seen enough gameplay yet to be sure if it's worth a purchase.

So someone could potentially get the prize of swaying my opinion if they came prepared. However I know that, for the most part, having a true debate on forums is borderline impossible. I've only seen it a few times in all my years of gaming.

     Which is sad, because I am really curious to understand other viewpoints. Usually though people are quick to tell me why I'm wrong but not able to admit any of my points are anything above mindless drool.

     So if there is anyone out there interested in true debate. I am all ears as to any possible draw of T2 over D3. Please keep in mind that one of the first points I will bring up is regarding natural progression. I do not view the loss of skill tree's as a con because it was a natural progression of what the community wanted.

     At first they had a skill tree, but one of the largest complaints about D2 was being locked into a skill tree forever. So they added a respec option at the towns in D3. Well the community quickly pointed out that skill tree's were largely useless then sense all skills were theoretically available anyways. You just had to go through the rather large hassle of respending all of your points to change one skill.

     So they took out skill tree's but forced players to return to town to change skills. Basically what they were doing anyways with the skill tree system. That wasn't fun though. Players were trecking back and forth all the time and more time was spent in transit back to towns to change a skill then in combat or actual gameplay. Thus you have the system we have now.

 

     This system was a natural progression based on logic and player wants. T2 is not as advanced in this area and basically just hides an archaic system. People do not want to be locked into skill trees. If you provide a respec then all your doing is adding an unnecessary illusion of choice. You can respec, so you basically; have access to all skills anyways. You just have to go through a huge hassle to spec into them every time.

 

     Well, I guess I've thrown the first bone. If anyone can respond with a degree of objectivity (we are all biased in some way) then I'd be happy to debate.

I'll note that I haven't played D3 yet. A lot of aspects of it sound good to me - I have no problem with the skill system or the lack of attribute points, but there are some things I'm on the fence about, hence my "wait and see" approach.

The difference is that with Torchlight 2, I know for certain that, at the very least, I'll get $20 worth of enjoyment out of it, and very likely more. With D3 I'm not 100% convinced yet that I'll get $60 worth of enjoyment out of it. I'm pretty certain I'd love it, just not enough to make it a day-1 purchase.

     That's understandable. The price difference is a logical reason that I can wrap my head around. Not that you need my approval but I agree with the wait and see approach to most things. Unless there is adequet information to get a feel for a game floating around on the web or you tried a demo of some sort then it really is smarter to wait it out.

     I've tried the game so I can say with certainty, for myself, I'll get the monies worth. Again, have fun with T2! I'll probably buy it as well down the road at some point.

Pre-ordered my copy via the PerfectWorld website. Glad it wasn't a Steam only thing. Been playing the beta and quite impressed with it. Great little game.

D3 is a "possible" for me, but at $20, TL2 is a definite buy for me. I can't think of a reason to not buy this game, other than you're obsessed with D3 and won't play it.
