What makes me laugh is people who get all up in arms about negative comments about gw2 getting their jollies from the same being done to another game that no one knows much about. Seeing that a lot the last two days.

what makes me laugh even more is when they call it a wow clone or the next swtor.  If thats the case then GW2 is a frikin wow clone too.

Things we know are in TESO that are also features of GW2

large scale 3 sided pvp - only TESO uses the whole of cyrodil for it out in the actual world with non of this anominity and 2 week rotation crap

no holy trinity

no agro mechanics

no quest hubs

skills that switch depending on weapeon equiped

free picking of other skills on your toolbar from a larger pool

active block in TESO, active dodge in GW2

Things TESO has on top of GW2

World raid bosses

Open non instanced dungeons

Hopefully TES crafting (or if not UO or DAOC crafting) instead of your typical wow crafting used by GW2

If that's directed at me, be clear about it.

Have you been trashing the game?

Thing is I don't even think this is an issue of my game is better than yours like it is most of the time. As a TES fan I'm a little irritated that ESO seems to have gutted everything I liked about the games (IF any of the information is correct). I'm not bothered that it's not sandbox because as I have said many times in many threads, none of the ES games are sandbox.

That's a waste of a well established IP....and frankly seems like a cheap attempt to cash in existing Brand Recognition.

True that!!! 100x amen to that!!! I was really hoping that Bethesda's admiration for Minecraft might have encouraged them to take a new look at how their sandbox franchise could become a bold new multiplayer game... Instead, they tell us they want make a new World of Warcraft game. This sucks so hard!

Not to my knowledge.  However, you and I both know that here, what's perceived often isn't what was intended, so I didn't want to act on an assumption.  I don't relish the taste of foot in my mouth.  Happens enough as it is.

The TES world is it's lore, the single-player game-play in itself really doesn't translate into an MMO well, that much is obvious. We can't go kill key story characters in an MMO as one example. Having every item tied to a physics engine is another, this list could be quite long as to what would cause problems in a TES MMO.

Does barring some or even a lot of these freedoms mean TES could not make a good MMO? I don't think it does. Based on a withstanding IP doesn't mean they can't try something else, yet make a cohersive entry into the framework laid by it's SP brethren.

I'm far more worried about decent PVP options being available in the MMO space than I am whether TES is like it's SP counterparts. What do we have now to play? Not much, and one option down the road (GW2) doesn't make that better.

Fans of the series expect that it would at least make some ATTEMPT to capture the Spirit/Feel of the series it's based on.... I'm sorry they didn't make DAOC2 for you....that would have probably been a better IP for what they have been describing here..... but you can't blame fans for being PO'd when they essentialy say...we're going to take all the hallmarks that made TES what they are, throw them out the window and slap a TES label on this game that's completely different.

Frankly, this game sounds to me like TOW with TES skins added in and RvRvR PvP.

I'm pretty sure that I've never called any game a wow clone.  I'm really not a fan of the term, just because peopler an't trying to copy wow, they're trying to copy blizzards success.  All the game elements are the same in pretty much every game made between EQ and WoW; even UO uses most of the same gameplay mechanics.

But..

The only thing you could possible take fromthe GI/ Bethesda promotional stunt (I refuse to believe the link right now), is that it's a wow clone.  When they describe the features and explicity state that it's "just like world of warcraft" it's very clear that the intent is to be "just like world of warcraft".

The entire theme of the "article" is wow clone.  The scans are literally supposed to be the developers, in not so many words, stating that the game is a wow clone.  Remember, I don't really think any game is a wow clone.  But, if you're going to tell me you're making a wow clone, then ok, if that's choose to label it; more power to you.

Am I the only one that's been laughing nonstop for the last two days?  Really, "hey guys, we're making an ES mmo, it's a wow clone".  No one else finds this incredibly funny?

Something tells me there are going to be a lot of people going, "oh, you bethesda guys you. Bunch of rascals you are!  You got me." in a few weeks or a month.  At least I really hope.

I am just now wrapping my head around the full hilarity of the situation and I'm with ya!

This really does seem like some kind of absurd marketing joke (does that exist). It's just too good at being utterly bizarre and hilarious. It's all the opposite of what you'd think they'd say. So the article now reads comically, whereas initially i was pretty shocked and confused by it. Now i'm just enjoying their well executed and sly show of comedic prowess. Well done i say.

It is IF they are actualy trying to convince me to BUY thier product..... and clearly from the number of comments in this thread from other people who have said they enjoyed TES series...it is very much not my problem ONLY. Unless you think those others are actualy lying about thier own sense of disappointment.

Bethesda nor ZeniMax Online are liable for unreasonable expectations.

If you do not understand that franchise does not imply any game play characteristics, it is your problem only.

Except the franchise very much does imply very specific gameplay characteristics.  That's not anyone fault, because the ES series intended to be a very specific style of game.

The entire ES series is built around a single idea, they will develop a world that we as players can do whatever we want in.  Bethesda has always maintained a very specific design philosophy when it comes to the ES series, and over the years they've been very upfront about what kind of game the ES series is supposed to be.

There is no guessing about what kind of game you expect to be playing when it has ES name on it.   It is no one's fault, anymore then it's no one's fault to have specific expectations when purchasing a ferrari.

A sandbox MMO based on the best selling sandbox RPG ever, is hardly an unreasonable expectation.

It is IF they are actualy trying to convince me to BUY thier product..... and clearly from the number of comments in this thread from other people who have said they enjoyed TES series...it is very much not my problem ONLY. Unless you think those others are actualy lying about thier own sense of disappointment.

You guys can skip it it all you want, just realize your personal expectation is not something they obviously set out to please.

Just because there are more with unreasonable expectations does not change my point.

It is still your problem only.

It was never going to be "bold and original" which is exactly why Zenimax and Bethesda held off on the project for so long.

They cannot take a TES single player RPG and adapt it in it's entirety to fit the MMORPG genre. It simply isn't going to happen which is why so many fans of the series never wanted to see TES in MMORPG form to begin with.
