I think one reason why people want to rush to the end game in Tera is because of the poor story line, quests. very few people in Tera bother to read the quest so they want to combat (which is fun) and get to a highter level (to gank lowbies and fight bams and such) where as in a game like swtor you could watch the stories unfold and listen to the cutscenes and voice overs, it was a more leisurely experience, except for the anti story add kids who could not take it and space barred through. When the story is not good you want to get to the good stuff and beside the combat that does not happen in tera until about level 25 |

The core of why I dropped them were they were endless, dull mob grinds which failed to provide new experiences. There wasn't "opportunity" to do new things just because I spent 100x more time grinding mob x than I would in a modern game. |

WoW hasn't quantum shifted the expectations yet, not even UO's or M59's more modest efforts. "Massive" hasn't even been coined. Draw your own conclusions. |

You know perhaps people should just take away levels, or something. I have no representation on how it would be that you would know you were getting stronger. Perhaps repeated use of your skills or something. I think the Secret World is doing this. I'm curious to see the impressiong peole have of the beta after next weekend. End game to do what I don't know, especially since Tera has no raids to speak of so what would you do at end game? You rushed to compete but then what. Not to say getting there as fast as you can is bad, just don't turn around and say there is now nothing to do you know.
Well has anyone that plays Tera as I cancelled my sub and uninstalled it...know what they have at end game? |

It could have something to do with how exiting the content is up to max level.
If you are quest grinding to get there, it can feel like an eternity no matter how many hours it takes in real time. If you are experiencing lots of boss fights, dungeons, PvP, exploration, etc, people tend to feel like it's not a grind at all. SWTOR is the greatest mmo ever! |

The leveling might not feel as slow if the game's quests had players doing different things than simply killing mobs and collecting items. TERA's PvE basically consists of doing the same thing over and over again, so players are bound to get burnt out on that faster than more varied PvE. |

It's also worth noting that the "slowness" of a leveling process is determined by how enjoyable it is. If I have to beat on the same set of mobs for 50 hours to max level or play through really enjoyable content for 100 hours to max level the first option is going to come off as a lot slower. Maybe TERA gets a lot less interesting later levels? It might also be as insinuated that no matter what leveling isn't fun so it is just based on quantity of time. In any case, older MMOs were really slow to level but that wasn't the problem. Slowly doing the same or very similar content over and over is the worst! |

Originally posted by mmoguy43 It's not just me. It's also thousands of other veteran gamers who tried early MMORPGs and thought they were a joke (then went back to playing games where their $50 gives them a variety of experiences instead of a dull, repetitive, endless mob grind.) Dull repetitive mob grinds are the opposite of good game design. Forcing players to repeat things excessively is something a designer only does when their content is limited and there's no other option. ...or when their payment model is subscription-based and they want to sucker level-obsessed players into staying subscribed. So it's either a tragic inevitability or greed, but it's very obviously not something the designer or players wanted. Games wouldn't magically be amazing just by increasing the Required XP a hundred times. Quite the opposite: they'd become worse. |

Im in the process of switching chars changing servers etc. I dont think Tera is the easiest game to get to 60 and I like it that way, however so far the journey has been brilliant and more fun than most games, so it doesnt feel like this massive drag and uphill struggle. I like pausing and taking in the massive BAMs Im knocking down or running that dungeon one more time. Im currently on the move to a pvp server because I cannot wait for the two months or so to get battlegrounds or server vs server. Love Tera hope to be in for the long haul, the massive scope the hidden castles and caves plus the awesome combat has got me hooked. + BAMS ') Tribes Ascend Link Sign Up Foo, its fun: https://account.hirezstudios.com/tribesascend/?referral=214829&utm_campaign=email |

I'm starting to see the line blur between what people think and what is being stated as fact. I'd like a show of hands how many people have seen TERA on the second continent. Painting a whole game based on level 15 doesn't make a good argument.
@Otacu, you mean max level after give days of playing correct? Since you could start playing kept players the morning of the 27th I assume this is what you meant. Theory time. "old games" were great because they were new to us. Thinking the old way is better could stem from what was lost in the streamlining of our MMOs. Worlds were no longer created and then populated with stuff, every square inch was tailored around your questlines. The "old games" seemed a lot grander because there was lateral movement and you were, agreed, forced to group and explore to find variations to your activities. If you were to add 6k quests to EQ you would come across the same problem: how do you make something worthwhile and not a "grind" without streamlining the entire gameworld to a console game? Just not worth my time anymore. |

Every game I've played it's been to quick and relatively easy to level. I love challenges, and to an extent wish leveling took a long time, so there was more of a sense of accomplishment. On a second note, I miss this game a little. It was fun, and it was a spontaneous desire to get a refund, yet I'm still staying away for awhile. It's an okay game, and yeah I don't enjoy power-levelers. I never reached the last level in any MMO I've played. Wow was 57, Swtor 48, Tera 23, Phantasy Star I don't really remember. AC 10. Kind of a strange stat actually, regarding me and MMOs.... hmmmm. I purposefully go slow when I level and try to do all that I can. Swtor and Wow was good for that, I could keep up with crafting/companion influence and be able to aquire the best gear per level nearing the last level available. Anyways, another random post. |

Yeah I wish MMO's would make it so leveling to max took at least a month for power levelers but there just isn't as large a market for that. People either want to be able to play casually and still get to max level or play like mad and get to max level in under a week. As for the game I love Tera, it is the first MMO I have played that didn't have the same combat system as every other MMO I ever played. Really this combat system is what I expected from SWTOR when I first heard about it(being a big Mass Effect fan) but was very disappointed as SWTOR ended up being the same thing as everything else. |

When reaching endgame is all you care about, then yeah, any and all levelling is slow :). I mean, need to max out today, right? *cough* I wanted to type something really smart as a reply to this subject, but the Scarlet Blade ad got me distracted and I forgot what I wanted to type. |
