With only so much in my wallet to spend on games, I am kind of picky about what I buy. I am a heavy user of reviews and other gamers' opinions like I see on this site. With everyone's attention turned toward the impending big dog games, some good, less trumpted games get lost in the mix. They get buried like some very good movies do at times by summer blockbusters, only to be discovered on video release later. I just played a wonderful, quietly recieved little game,"Superbrothers:Sword&Sworcery EP", which was just a gem to pass time with. Maybe more for the casual gamers, hipsters, and couture addicts than the meat and bones, industrial strength types. What lesser publicized games do you know that are out there that the rest of us should open our wallets for till the next big thing gets here?

Like? If you see an underfunded, underpromoted quality game, do share. Ignore the nattering of beldames, enjoy whatever you like. |

It depends on how much time you have on your hands.
There is an insane amount of free-trials out there right now though! Unfortunately many of those games aren't really good past the trial though imo but I mostly play for PVP.
Here is a list of current PC games: Guildwars - best instant grind-free action PVP and very populated community when it comes to the PVE Darkfall - most immersive game that has the most potential for providing an adrenaline rush (yeah from a friggin game, thats right!) but its very challenging at will seem like a single player game until you join a clan for the most part Age of Conan - best graphics if you just want to lay back and see nudity and blood League of Legends - best free game when it comes to strategic matches similar to Warcraft (not World of Warcraft, just Warcraft) Die 2 Nite - funnest community coop browser game (log in 15 min a day usually) Transformice - funnest browser game Vanguard - best themepark PVE Skyrim - best soloplayer on the PC imo right now Battlefield 3 - best FPS WoW - most populated (derp) Mount and Blade - most realistic battle scenerios and fun solo RPG experience Warhammer - funnest neverending free-trial for quick PVP but it gets boring fast Dungeons and Dragons Online - if you want some DnD nostalgia its F2P so nothing to lose! This game kind of reminds me of diablo in a wierd way . .. dungeons in this game have riddles and puzzles and traps unlike most games. Lord of the Rings Online - if you want some LoTR nostalgia its F2P so nothing to lose! This game is similar gameplay to EQ/WOW but in a setting that most of us are more familiar with. EVE - living economy and political warfare controlled entirely by players but be prepared to study a manual to learn how to play NEWS FLASH! A bank was robbed the other day and a man opened fire on the customers being held hostage. One customer zig-zag sprinted until he found cover. When questioned later he explained that he was a hardcore Darkfall Online player and knew just what to do. |

Dwarf Fortress. Its 100% free, but donations are always accepted. The guy and his brother who make the game will even make you a little personalized crayon drawing for donating any amount $1 or over. Its the harshest, most evil, punishing, horrible game that will laugh in your face, slap you, kick you in the nuts, give you a wedgie, and taunt you some more. ....and you'll come crawling back every time for more. Its a simple fortress simulator. With dwarfs. And monsters. And weather. And an ecosytem. And a living, breathing world for you to survive in and shape to your imagination.
Oh, and cats to skin and make muffins from. And elves to burn and torture. Lots of burning and torture. ...and you 'will' die. Eventually. But don't worry. Losing is fun. :D

I find it a strange concept to have a limited wallet, for me it's all about time. Practice doesn't make perfect, practice makes permanent. If monsters ate people, it'd be in the news. |
