As much as I enjoyed the beta, I will admit that choosing what I am going to craft is really challenging! On the one hand I lean towards the crafts that are specific for my profession, but then again I love all of these professions, so I will probably play all of them. Therefore I think the best option for me is to start off with cooking and jewelcrafting. Even though cooking is going to be the hardest craft in the game, I think that by discovering all the recipes I can benefit my other toons greatly. Jewelry has always been important in any game, in my opinion. I think it will also do well in trade. However...ANet aren't as simple minded as me :D. I have the feeling there's a catch to it and that those specific crafts are going to be really good in terms of stats or the speed at which to get them. What do you think or know? What will you choose or think to choose?
I am so looking forward to this game. Proud member of the global Midnight Squadron clan. Visit www.midnightsquadron.com for more info! |

The thing i wondered about crafting is since in Gw2 gear doesn't matter as much since most poeple will have the same item stats. How will crafting help your character, will it be worth it? GW2 the future of MMO gaming |

Originally posted by supbro Stats on gear do scale as you level up. So a level 50 sword will have better stats than a level 20 sword. The gear plateaus once you reach level 80. So crafting basically works the same way as it does in other games. As you level up crafting you are able to make higher level gear which has higher stats. Once you max out your crafting, the gear will be the same level as the max level PvE gear. Also professions that make armor can craft bags.

level 80 craft gear will have a unique look than finding a world drop or a dungeon loot or using karma earned gear. It will be a matter of achievements, looking cool. On the other note, you basically get all 8 crafts. make 3 alts that sit near a bank and crafting tables and thats that. Because your bank and crafting mats transfer over account-wide. You can simply throw everything into the bank to be made by your alts. There is no level needed to craft or anything like that so this in turn means you have access to everything. BUT, where do you spend your copper nuggets? artificer? armorsmith? That will be the decisions to be made. |

Crafted gear also provides it's own looks verses other gear choices.
Cooking was probably the biggest surprise to me in the BWE - not that I actually ended up doing any of it (got dragged off to do something else just as I walked up to the cook station) but have you seen the cooking section of the collectibles bank tab? It had as many slots as all the other crafts combined. I know that I found onions, carrots, mushrooms, and parsley while gathering and got some eggs and different kinds of meat as loot - with the discovery mechanic I can't wait to try it out.
I did manage to try tailoring but everything I made was level 10 so didn't get to wear it (I spent the weekend trying out tons of professions). The gear I made was nice but didn't have much to compare it with (at that point I hadn't figured out you can open Trading Post from anywhere). My husband did leatherworking and fell in love with the crafting. What we both liked is that all the armor makers can make containers.
I think what I plan to do at launch is to concentrate on gathering and collecting stuff until level 10 and then make my decisions. Luckily you can change disciplines without losing progress (just costs gold) so if I do what I usually do and make the wrong decision I can easily change stuff without having to level up in adventuring. Originally posted by Delvie I'll be going with Cooking and probably Tailoring if I go with a clothie main, which is likely right now. If not, one the craft skills I choose will be for making bags. Starting off, that's the most important thing I can make for my own toons. Cooking I want to start with because it's the slowest and most difficult to level and I want to start early. |

Originally posted by Delvie i tried cooking a bit in BWE and it has a few problems: 1. its EXTREMELY expensive to level - every recipe i tried in that short time used material you had to buy, and in a lot bigger amount then in eq crafting professions 2. every recipe i tried needed at least 1 material which has to be bought for karma p.s. and by extremely expensive i mean that i usually had less then 10cp on me, since the rest i did puy into cooking, i didnt have enough money even to ress at other "portal" then the free one |

I'm gonna be pretty straightforward with my first couple of characters and pick up the tradeskill for the armor those characters wear. Then I'll spread out the weaponcrafting skills so I have them covered. There's enough to keep track of with that. I'm sure being one of the first to max cooking would have its advantages. Maybe even a serious economic advantage. But from what little of it I've seen it looks like I might be able to get 3 other characters to max in XP and tradeskills before I got one cook leveled. At least until I have more experience with the game. Charr: Outta my way. |
