I think it'll be alright if they end up following the WOT model or better yet let you be able to unlock certain mechs or weapons that would otherwise take a long time to unlock.

Any fool can know. The point is to understand.

I really hope they follow the WOT model because it works. 80 of my dollars have gone to Wargaming and I don't regret it too much :P

I'm saving the rest of my current gold for WoWP.

Play for fun. Play to win. Play for perfection. Play with friends. Play in another world. Why do you play?

Ill avoid it for this reason.

The WOT model?  You mean rent premium for a p2p sub then have to buy cash shop rounds?  Yes i know you dont need to buy the cash shop rounds but i do remember playing against people who used them, it was a very good advantage.  On top of that you need the monthly fee premium to really pull a profit out of matches later on in game.

When i see a f2p thats less than a p2p to enjoy and compete ill play it.  Have yet to see one.

But yeah i can see this game doing a premium rental for what a p2p costs on top of cash shop ammo and possible leveling items...the usuall affair.

It all wouldnt be so bad, the f2p, if they could just compete with a p2p in terms of letting use the whole game without the restriction on progression/competition/convienience....i guess they do need people to cover the cost of all the players who wont pay a dime for playing though.

Sad, this IP might have really been something that interests me, just cant get into a F2P, it feels so cheezy and cheap like a sleazy casino.

I happen to like the WOT model and I think so do many others.

MechWarrior Online is looking sweet so far.  2012 should see so many great releases.  This is the year that the MMO genre will get the boost that it needs.

See you all on the battlefield.

theyve already promised ZERO advantage from the store, so no premium rounds for real money like WoT.

expect sto style, mech skins/paint jobs, some faster then the free way buying of chasis i suppose, nothing you cant get for free, but if you want it now, you pay now, if you want it free, you grind for god knows how long teehee.

as long as prices are reasonable and nothing unbalances the game via cash shop fine, ill even chip in for cool shit to the tune of 10-20 bucks a month if its worth it.

While I love the concept of a Mechwarrior Online game, love the videos I see, I just can't understand why people continue to say "free to play". Obviously, Infinite Game (the publisher) wants to make money on this project. And like all other MMO's that claim to be "free", they are not. All require that to be either "good" or "competitive" or just to "look kewl (cool)" you have to purchase items with REAL money. Now, I do not have a problem with paying. I just would like games companies stop lying about it and say that the game is a "free to start" model. That I can understand. Saying it is a "free" game when it is not only makes me suspicious of the publishers integrity and honesty. I won't give ANY real money to someone that can not be honest to me.

So, short answer, I may try the game but it is more then likely I won't put any money into it just to see how out of balance that will become.

Let's party like it is 1863!

Technically they can say "free to play" because you can play for free.  Most of these types of games are not "free to win" though, which is a big gotcha.

theyve already promised zero tacticle advantage to cash shop.

so that means WoT system is out, no premium money bullets or renting superior units.

that leaves paint jobs, the mech version of a skin.  xp potions to level faster (everyone can be max level, but its a good way to make money if you can get there 50% faster for 5 bucks) and they should probably go ahead and sell cbills since farmers will anyway, this way they can undercut the farms so bad that it doesnt pay to spam the game server with it and the community is 100% less annoyed with gold seller spam.

its a battletech mechwarrior game made by battletech fanboys for battletech fanboys, we have been waiting for this for nearly 30 years, cant wait to play it.

i will likely buy some cbills to start out if they sell them, so i dont have to worry about leaving games if my team sucks to avoid repair bills to my atlas.  and ild pop for cool paint jobs for it too.

actually according to the devs of mwo, their game should be a good example of free too play, you can get anything you need to win matches, in game, without spending money.  same mechs, same guns, same ammo.  as long as you are willing to grind out your cbills and whatnot with time.

you dont need a special paint job to do it, although i like cool paint jobs and dont mind supporting the game by spending a few bucks now and then on them.  and if they sell cbills and if they suck to farm for if your atlas costs alot to fix, i might indulge in a small stipend of those as well (as long as im not spending more then 15 bucks a month its still cheaper then playing wow and being bored)

I'll try it anyway, but can u guys remember one dev that said:

-This F2P game will sell game advantages in the shop. and other P2W stuff!

I can't remember a single one of them saying that. STO, Champions Online, EQ2,... I'm afraid of a item shop that sells game advantages, despite what any dev can say. But as i said, i'll try it anyway.   =p

If it uses the WoT model, I won't be playing. There's nothing 'free' about WoT. Sure you can grind like a madman up to the higher tier tanks... but then you'll discover they cost so much to repair that there's really no point whatsoever to using them, and go back to your lower tier tanks.

I'm surprised that the 'premium' ammo doesn't make repairs cost more for people damaged by it. Or maybe it does, knowing how wargaming.net works. Bunch of crooks and liars.

I suppose it depends on how hard core you want to play it.  As far as I'm concerned, a subscription game suits people who are going to devote a lot of time to the game whereas F2P suits the more casual gamer.

For me, I really enjoy WoT and the model they use as I generally play it casually for some fun now and then.  Nobody really uses the gold rounds other than in the Clan Wars battles, and I'm not interested in getting that heavily involved in it.  I imagine I'll approach MWO in the same way.

I had given up all hope that anybody would actually make a mechwarrior online game. While the free to play has me a little concerned I will still budget $20+ a month to help keep the game going.

They just need to be careful with their balancing and stay well clear of p2w

as long as the shop contains exp bonus and items that can be traded in game there should not be a problem

i do think with the type of game this will be horribly pay to win or gank the poor with uber shop powers

( i am very much looking forward to this game but hope they do the righ thing)

WoT model does NOT work for me.

Actually I would only play this game if it would be totally PURE B2P - like buying a box and no Cash Shop and thing like that.

Maybe an expansion in a year or so would be ok if done right.

Of course that is not what they are after and what most companies are after atm, so I am giving it a miss.

Just tired of cash shop , microtransaction crap.

If they go the way Tribes Ascend is, it would be fine imo. With a few exceptions, maybe, the majority of the weapons are sidegrades rather than upgrades and you can preety much fight anyone and win from day 1.

Good to hear no WOT style cash shop...it seems the russians always do their cash shops wrong...anyway.

Im more inclined to play a game with a cosmetic and XP cash shop advantage....in this setting im MUCH more likely to spend in the cash shop so long as the cosmetics look cool and theres enough variety in them..not going to buy one of 3 designes that everyone else has anyway ect.

So long as they dont try to rent me for a p2p monthly sub anything.  I will not cash shop to rent anything.  Nothing irks me more than having to spend $15 on something that will last 14-30 days...i refuse to do it no matter how vital.

I've no problem with it being free to play loved playing lotro when it went free to play (though in all fairness I was still subbing to the game) not sure what WOT uses as a model but it certainly doesn't sound as "free" as the turbine model so I hope they go with that as opposed to what it seems like WoT uses as I don't see spending 80 bucks on anything as free to play or as a consumer friendly model.

From the looks of it you can pay a 'subscription" if you want to.
