My wife and I know we aren't the only gamer couples out in the world, did any other couples enjoy their time together over the BWE? (Slight history, we met in the Original Starcraft Online in 1999, Married 7 years ago this month) My wife and I are gamers, We love spending time together going on virtual adventures! We find it extremely fun.
We also like to go out on dates - dinner and a movie and all that kind of stuff, or my likes it when I cook us a extravagent meal at home and we rent some movies :P either way.
Now with GW2 we paid $60 so that we can see what this game is all about. Spent easily 45+ hours in the game over the BWE and had an amazing time. I'd easily say it was the most fun I've had in any gaming experience in the last 5 Years.
Now with 2 copies of the game that puts it at $120 bucks lets compare that to a dinner and a movie. Dinner - $25-$30 a person (drinks included maybe desert) I consider this on a low end if you include everything in the meal, appitizer, entree, desert, and drinks. Easily $60-$75 Movie - Tickets, Popcorn, Candy, Drinks easily $50-$60
Now all this combined into one night consumes about 4-5 hours of the evening and done.
Dinner 4-5 hours one time with only the dinner being the time you communicate = roughly $120-$150 GW2 45 hours of awesomeness over a period of 3 days for $120 bucks, oh and wait we get to keep playing GW2 in up and coming BWE's as well as we get to play together as much as we want post Launch.
I don't know about you but I think for a gamer couple GW2 worked out to be a heck of a deal!!! We've been talking about it ever since and are itching to get back into the game. Now to make up for not going out on a date, I've planned a little moon light picnic dinner under a star lit sky with candles and soft music since we have time before the next BWE :P

That is awesome you and your wife are both gamers. I like your break down of the costs also! Imagine if she liked Tera and you liked GW2. Now your money analogy would be a little bumpier! :) Plus the entire marriage would probably end in divorce! Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not. |

And here's hoping that games which interest you continue to interest you both or that they aren't released too quickly so you can continue to try and squeeze reality into your lives. |

My wife and I both play games, as well as my GW Guild's leader and her husband. Also being more 'mature' (in age not attitude?!?) makes for interesting times.

Originally posted by TheTrueKing My wife and I are also big time gamers. We actually first met on wow. Both my wife and I have pre purchased GW2, though she was not able to participate in the BWE due to a conference she had to attend. I spent 32 hrs playing GW2 during the BWE and loved it! My wife did however get to play a little on Sunday night and completely loved it. We've tried returning to wow but can't. As soon as GW2 is released, we'll both cancel our wow subs and spend all of our gaming time in GW2. Here's to the gaming couples! woot! |

Me and the Missus enjoyed the BWE very much. We met playing Diablo in 1999. |

Oh how sweet..(throws up a little in mouth).
I used to think it was cool that my now (Crazy) ex girlfriend used to play MMO's with me. That is until she stopped working, cleaning and cooking. I now have a wonderful wife who is amazing and doesn't do any gaming. She is to busy cooking and cleaning. |

I'm curious, do you live in a major city? $25-30 is no low end here, I'd say $15-20 per person (splitting appetizers) is low and not even low end. Movies run about $25 per person with all those things included; however I certainly wouldn't feel the need to buy popcorn, candy, and drinks if I was going to dinner so for me it would be about $5-12 a person depending on the time, theatre, and if the movie is 3D or not. Let's not forget that playing GW2 you still have to eat too so I think it's fair to deduct normal meal cost from dinner there. Still GW2 is obviously way more value for your money than going to the movies, but this isn't really much of a revelation. Online gaming has been a much cheaper hobby per hour than going to the movies (or doing pretty much any activity outside your own home you have to pay for) for years now. It's one of the best values on a per hour basis of any forms of entertainment aside from a few free options. Since GW2 doesn't cost a subscription free it's even cheaper than most MMOs. |

Originally posted by Magnum2103 If you just consider a place, which I'd never go to but a lot of people find it popular for dates. Olive Garden 1-2 Appetizers $8-9 each - $8-$18 So lets just say we are stingy and don't want to totally splurge 1 app, 2 Entrees, 1 drink each. still is any range from $54 at the lowest end possible to what I calculated in the OP. But for me if I'm taking someone out on a dinner date I make sure we have pleanty to drink, Bottle of wine and such and a couple cocktails. Make the movie for later. Dinner at 5pm-6pm and movie at like lates say 10pm perfect time for snacks. $15-20 is low that just seems like each is drinking water and no desert and ordering the cheapest thing on the menu. I meant low end for a real date not low budget skimp date share stuff, I mean all out low end. I mean hell taking someone to mcdonalds isn't a "Date" its just dinner. Personally I don't consider going to a nice restuarant and having a decent date anything under $100 for two.
Maybe its because I do live in a big city :P or I just like to wine and dine my wifey!! |

Me and my hubby met in SWG about a month after launch. We play some games together and some apart. For example he adores MTGO and I'm currently into Remanum but we both play MMOs together. We cancelled SWTOR once they announced the dates of first BWE (part of that is due to being teed off about not getting the free month because we didn't have level 50 characters) and will probably only be logging into LOTRO (we're lifetimers) once in a while until GW2 launches. Many family members and friends are eagerly awaiting GW2. One of the ways we keep in touch as we are spread across three states is to meet up and play games together. It's almost as good as family game night in person, though nothing beats playing Charades or Cranium with loved ones. As to the cost of the game - we're boring according to the non gaming segment of our family and friends as we don't have cable, rarely go to movies, and would rather throw a potluck than go out to eat. Gaming is our main source of entertainment and $60 has almost no impact on our entertainment budget.

Instead of trying new restaurants and finding most are absolutely horrible, wasting our money, I prefer to cook a nice home made meal and spend the extra on gaming.
We too do not have cable, most shows can be seen somewhere on the internet :P The bond that gaming has brought to our family is greater now then it has ever been before gaming became our main focus of entertainment.
