Is it sad that I feel like I've missed out on all the fun by showing up too late?

Anyhow, I think that GW2 is materializing into a pretty great game. They have a few flaws that need fixing, but I look forward to a promising release.

^This.

I haven't seen this level of open world cooperation in any game.. ever.

Even back in the "glory days" of UO in my eyes, people were still competing in Trammel for tagging mobs and getting the loot.

You should NEVER watch another player die in PvE so that you can get what they were after. GW2 understands this, and built an entire game around it.

This, along with the rest, why I feel GW2 is the first truly "unique" MMO since perhaps as early as 2004.

DCUO was one game where there wasn't any KSing... while not everyone killing everything in the area would give you credit,  if you hit something and they did too,  you would both get credit, and in that aspect I think there was a lot of unspoken cooperation.

CoH in the early days had things like this too, and probably still does, where big events would happen and people would just jump in, regardless of the rewards....

And who could forget games with other group events or dynamic events like WAR (in the PQs),  Tabula Rasa ( with their capture system), CO (had PQs also) and I'm sure plenty of others.

The only issue with this is that,  I see more cooperation,  less coordination.  What was the one, and pretty much ONLY thing I heard between players in GW2:    "Need a rez"  "REZ THE DEAD!"  "wtf guys, you HAVE TO REZ PEOPLE!"

I think if people spent some time focusing on what they were doing, instead of doing what they wanted and hoping others would pick up the slack when they die, we wouldn't hear that kind of frustration.... especially when they could port and come back in half the time it takes someone to get clear enough for a rez in many situations.

The game needs /say and chat bubbles. The thing is that because of the fast pace of the combat, not a lot of people pay attention to the chat window. Especially during a hard fight. This is why we need chat bubbles. You can keep your eyes on the combat and still be able to see what people around you are saying.

As far as that "rezing the dead" thing, this is the only game I have played in a long time where complete strangers would go out of their way to resurrect my character, some dying in the process. It was some of the most selfless behavior I saw in an MMO in a very long time.

Some events, like that freaking flame shaman who could casually own 30+ people without breaking a sweat, make it hard to successfully resurrect players because the boss hits really hard and has some serious AoE to boot. If you stay still while trying to revive someone, you'll get 1 or 2 shotted. I remember doing that event and having to dodge out of the way while trying to revive someone because if I stayed any longer I would die too. Basically there is an issue with the way that shaman and some other event bosses scale to the number of players. The good thing is that ANet is aware of the situation and will hopefully rebalance them for the next BWE.

On the flip side, that flame shaman event was the most fun I've had as level 6 character in any MMORPG to date.

Not sure how many examples we need to point to the fact that pure blind hype does more damage then it is worth. He says it felt more like a sandbox? Really a very instanced sandbox with ZERO player created content. Last thing GW2 needs is the biggest derp crowd out their rushing the game.

The everything is perfect approach is what got TOR into so much trouble pre launch. MMORPG runs adds for GW2, so seeing a remarkly shining review is not exactly surprising.

Chat bubbles would help.. and you were right about the flame shaman,  but also, in that situation,  sure, he could down 30 people easily,  but thats exactly what I was talking about...

You'd hear people complaining for a rez,  yet the respawn point was less than a 30 second walk away... people layed there, dead on the ground, being lazy for much longer than it would have taken to just walk the distance.

I did have a lot of fun in that particular event, especially since I rarely did die.. but I didn't spend a lot of time rezzing people either... it was one of the few instances people complained way too much for a rez, where it was way too dangerous to do it, and the spawn point was so close, it was pointless.

But that's where you're wrong. If you've visited the official GW2 beta forums, you would've noticed that there was lots and lots of criticism/feedback for the game. There were tons of people who gave suggestions for the game. People gave feedback about certain aspects not working like they should, or about features that really should get added, etc etc...

Just because it may =>seem<= like people are using the "everything is perfect" approach on this site, doesn't mean everyone is doing it. It certainly wasn't the case on the beta forums. And before you go "lol is the game that bad that so much people are complaining??", no. Most of the people who "complained" were generally very happy about the game, and gave criticism/feedback in a constructive way. There was no whining.

TL;DR: Stop acting like all GW2 fans are claiming that the game is perfect. It's the haters who keep claiming that GW2 fans are saying the game is perfect.

There will always be some mouth foaming GW2 fanboys who will defend GW2 as if it's their own mother, but i refer to those as the "Youtube Crowd", and you shouldn't pay attention to those people.

Hats off to Guild Wars 2! It certainly impressed me from its WvW, art style, and the sandbox-ish zones with its anti-grindy questing. No way I'm going to claim it's perfect, it does need some fixing, but bottomline it's darn good.

GW2 fans need to take a historical look at how WoW fans have used any chance that they could to discredit a game. WoW fans must have studied under Himler because he always said "If you say something enough times, then people will believe it".

The game has a chance to revolutionize pvp, questing, and the approach to mmorpgs from a gear based perspective. The issue is it could all get swept away if it is dramatically over hyped. We are dealing with the same WoW fans who said Trions release schedule was too fast and 6-8 months in between patches in a P2P game was reasonable.

I am just giving you a taste of what is to come. ArenaNET is not helping the situation by not outlining just exactly wtf you are supposed to do at end game. Using terms like sandbox is dangerous to say the least and invites trouble you do not want.

II love the beta of G2 and Ill tell you why!

1)Dynamic events are actually Dynamic..Yes it does need a little tweaking to adjust to some leveling issues but it was very amazing I.E for those who started out human will understand this one..Centaurs camp we had to take it back, Well there was only me and 3 others by the time we reached the middle of the camp there was easily 30 people there. The game added more mobs more spawning and it was just insane fighting. You had to watch each other back because if you didn't we all would get face rolled. As a Element I made sure to toss out AOE heals whenever it was up. Yet whenever I had someone on me a Guardian or War would peel them off me and let me get away while I did a funnel heal on them. There has never in all my 11 years of MMO gaming have I ever been so involved in a event with other players without having to receive some item I.E Raiding..You did it because it was fun!

2)The World is just breath taking! One thing players need to understand is that Yes many had some lag even those with awesome systems such as myself. Yet I was able to run it maxed out only using my Cpu and partial part of my GPU..It was CPU locked and not optimized..Take that into account and realize how amazing the world was not running your GPU...For someone with an I7@4.1 and two 6970's itching to push this game to it's limits! I can't wait! The capital cities were all just so breath taking and Unique they were carbon copies of each other and SO much was happening in them.

3)A biggie here PvP.. I had gotten my Element to max beta level which was 30 so going out into WvW gave me an advantage over some. I love it! The keep taking the tower taking. All the aspects that went into it just made it fun. I even left the zerg some times and ran with a few friends who we just happened to run into a small group and had insane battles that lasted not a few second but minutes. Take that into account that most weren't even above level 10 and add a few months of game play after launch imagine how amazing the battles will be then. As far as structured PvP goes I enjoyed that also to me it gave you a feel for a class if you were thinking “Oh maybe I want to roll this toon and do end game pvp”.

4)Crafting as I only got 200 on 3 crafting cooking/huntsman/artifice. It did take me some time to figure out that in order to gather you need the items slotted in your /char selection. It was unigue and fun and I can't wait to actually get in game @ launch and spend time doing more of it.

5)The final biggie..Is that Anet has something special here something that is different then most MMO's. I have been around since the launch of DAOC. Never did EQ. I loved DAOC it's PvP and PvE until EA took over and tried to make it like WoW..Most gamers who have been around as long as myself have come to understand games come and go and usually even before launch we are aware of which games are going to flop on there face. (The old saying if I had a penny for X times someone said X I would be rich) Well I feel that way about MMO's if I had one for every time I said X MMO is going to fail I would be driving a Ferrari and not a Infiniti..lol. Yet with G2 I feel something special about. Something along the lines that the devs actually love there own game and did it to win it not to bank on it.

Fort things that need fixing:

1)Chat Oh yea that's a biggie. I had a hard time understanding the chat system. I wasn't sure if I was /saying or /1area etc...lol

2)They need to adjust the dmg that some of the mobs do. I felt I did very well reaching 30 withing 22 hours of playing.Yet some of the mobs solo even with abilities +Fire dmg etc. They could mess me up pretty hard. I felt that once I got +10 I could drop mobs before they got to me and I was okay. But before level 20 it felt kinda rough.

I honestly couldn't find anymore things wrong  that needed to be tweaked..Granted I obviously haven't hit end game and didn't do any dungeons and hope that in time Anet will open that to us so we can test those also because without end game well PvP will only take you so far.

In closing I know this a long reply but fact is this game doesn't warrant just a simple yes or no. It's so much more then that! It's a game that many many players have been waiting for.Is it the WoW crusher? I don't think so.. Blizzard can only destroy WoW... Just as Kobe and Shaq were there own worst enemies. I know there are many many naysers and just they should have there own opion..I will say this if your a skeptic. Give it a shot. I was and know I can't feed my addiction and the only way I have been able to keep it at ease is by reviewing the 300 Screen shots I took along with the 4 hours of Fraps.

That minority group will disagree with this because the game just dont interest them somehow which i cannot figure out why if they love playing mmo.

Some say GW2 is all hype before the BWE. But now we all know the hype is all real. Everyone loves this game even more after the bwe.

I guess you must have missed the pages of complaints about this game after the beta weekend.  Luckily for ANET most of the complaints were about issues that should be easily ironed out in beta but let's not fool ourselves everyone doesn't love this game now nor will everyone love it upon it's launch.

What I'm really interested to know is exactly how will folks recieve the game after the "innovation" wears off, see that's the problem with counting on something being new and different so strongly it can only be new and different up until we all get used to it then what happens when it becomes the same ol same?

Also curious to see how the rest of the world recieves the game (not just the often far too enlightened folks who frequent boards like this) time and again we have seen that the pulse of communities like this can be flat out wrong from games like AOC being the next big thing etc. to WOW being a bad game.

My interest in the game stems mostly from the fact that I respect ANET as a developer and as such would be more than willing to contribute to what they are trying to achieve (with this game or another) but I don't expect this game to do much more for me than the first GW did (which was less than a week of actual playtime) I'm not all that impressed with the graphics, models  or features being advertised as I've heard them.

The last thing I really want to leave everyone with is it's ok for you guys to love this game and I hope it's everything you want it turns out to be but just be prepared to put on a brave face when the inevitable complaints flood this site it's ok for people to not like your game just like it's ok for many of you to not like TOR or WOW I just hope that as gamers we can one day get to a point of respecting each others opinions and not try to put our opinions over as some type of fact (no matter how many on this site seem to agree with us).

GW2 doesn't actually need an endgame at all since it is one stop purchase for the game card code box. All it needs is a good launch, and I have to say that the last open beta weekend was really rough. I am thinking of playing it as a casual secondary PvP game with PvE lite at best. Wonderful how the preview states that they didn't bother with the personal story at all, it is kinda bad with all those cut-scenes and one option choices, very lineear PvE game, though their are PvE hubs like many other MMOs.

Nope, the problem with GW2 is the hype, it can never live up to that.

The problem with GW2 is that you lie about it.

We get like 2-3 articles a day gloating how awesome the game is.

Even though in the end of day it's just another "MMORPG" but this time around without an endgame.

Hopefully they are paying generously. Which is necessary until they figure out to fund a website purely through spite and angst. Soon as they get the bugs worked out of the Trollitron 5000, they can hook it up to these forums and solve the world's energy crisis.

For what I experienced stated in this general discussion it is so hard for me to go back to Tera. Don't get me wrong Tera is a good game for what it is. GW2 is another story it feels so right to me. And playing it with other players feels so right. Arena Net you have yourselfs a gold mine here.

My concern is however that the game could go one of two ways:

Either certain aspects will be somewhat familiar to players of other MMOs, and they'll all complain because it's not completely new, different and shiny, even though the mechanics are a major refinement (IMHO)

Or it will be too different for lots of people who will become lost and confused and find the game too hard.

I'm just concerned that the hype levels will damage the game come launch, which is a shame because I think it's a brilliant game.

I will be playing for the simple fact the PVP is pretty darn close to the style of DAoC.

The rest of it is just cake.

I hope so, I don't think talking is required to enjoy someones companionship but thats just me. Of course I don't think that has changed either.

So what? At least the other guy who talked about how social it was said they completed the quest and then they all talked about it and had a good laugh. Sounds to me like you're just a bunch of anti-social lamers..

Edit : It's people like this, that make MMO communities so disconnected and pointless.
