This is the only thing i'm disappointed about. I play in 3D and the world looks great in 3D through a First Person View.

I highly doubt that it will. The original game was in third person and no one has ever hinted at it being able to be played in first person. Plus the dodging mechanic would be really awful in first person. |

I know you can scroll into something similar to a 1st person view, but I don't think you'll be able to see your weapons.

I haven't played first person in an MMORPG sicne EverQuest. It worked there...it works in Skyrim...it would not work in this game. That being said, there still should be an option, at least outside of combat. I like to machinima and you really need that 1st persoon perspective for most shots.

Originally posted by bookworm438 I don't think you can - if you scroll in, the scrolling stops when close to your head, it doesn't switch to first person like in other games. Maybe there's another way, but I searched and didn't find it. |

If you need to do it for machinima purposes and the options don't allow you to zoom in far enough then memory editing is an option, but it would be against the ToS and risk a ban.

GW1 had a first person viewpoint, but the game was unplayable (IMHO) in that mode. However, it made screen caps and machinima wonderful. I'm hoping they add this in for these two reasons alone....I don't want my character in every screen cap, and if I'm making a video I don't want to be the star of the show.

Apparently, you can scroll in all the way, then use /sit to remove your character from view for screenshots. (I didn't know this when I played, so I can't confirm.)

I was disappointed by both the zoom distance and the inability to zoom in to first person view, I loved the aesthetics. Knowing I couldn't film or take screen shots without my character getting in the way and not being able to zoom out far enough to get a clearer picture of what was going on behind me was a real let down, hope this changes. |

Originally posted by Naevius You can, but it was very annoying and made it much more difficult to get shots from the perfect angle. I was a little frustrated with this feature as well. Very often in MMOs I like to wander around with the UI turned off and then switch to first person view to take screenshots. While I did a fair bit of wandering this past beta, I couldn't quite get all the screenshots I wanted. |

it is irrelevant, if the game is playable in 1st person view or not. while playable or not playable is a very personal opionion anyways. even if i would not fight in 1st person view personally, it is a self-evident part of a MMO, which the devs should not forget. looks like lazyness or thoughtless action. played: Everquest I (6 years), EVE (3 years) |

Yeh I want 1st person view for when I run around the cities so I can actually see where I'm going better. They don't allow you to zoom far enough out either, the character model si too big for my liking. |

Players come for the game, but they stay for the people- Most Devs have forgotten this. |

Just because someone does not include everything *you* think should be in a MMO dosen't mean laziness at all. This forum never fails to amaze tbh with this kind of post. I honestly hope you are trolling tbh. |

This is a big negative for me about GW2. I really hope they re-consider adding it. It's not a deal breaker though, but i'm very disappointed by their reasoning for not having it. They said something along the lines, that they wanted the player to feel connected to their character, or something. Lame reasoning to be honest. |

EDIT: Just looked through google and nothing about first person view said from ANY DEVS. In fact this thread is on the top of the list, along with a bunch of other specultive posts from other forums.
So thanks for lieing about First Person mode in Guild Wars 2, you must be a huge badass in real life. |

Originally posted by jiveturkey12 They weren't lying. Mentions in there a person asking why no first person to a dev and them saying they want you to see your character. I've seen it a couple other places before too, but that was the first thing I found after about a minute of searching, lol. The answers I've seen mostly why there isn't have mostly been kind of lame. Personally I always thought it was because of the dodge mechanic and not being able to see mobs telegraph their shots while in melee range. Considering people are having issues dodging as a melee, i'd hate to see them try zoomed in, lol. |

GW2 needs to have the option to zoom in all the way so you can take scenary screenshots or whatever. When traveling, I sometimes enjoy doing so in first person view, so I don't have my character's rear blocking part of the view (especially when playing a Charr). I'm asking to add it as a utility, not to be a change in combat. Who the heck plays in first person during combat? That's silly. |

Originally posted by Vynt Thats still not what the other poster said, in the link you just sent me they just said "We want you to see your character".
Not "We want you to feel connected to the character", the point the other poster was trying to throw out was to have it sound like the devs had a lame PR marketing type reason when the reason is simple, because you have to see your character to fight effictively. Fighting in first person would be ridiculous in this type of game, and im sure anyone thats actually played the game can tell you that in a second.
He still lied, and on top of that he still presented the typical "Spin" that posters on here like to put out on GW2, finding any reason they can to bash on the game. So he gains no respect points in my eyes.
I do appreciate you digging and finding this link though, as it at least shows the real reasoning behind it, and you presented the idea in a coherant way and didnt pick sides. So you sir DO have my respect, whether that means anything to you or not ;) |
