No, im just currently playing now or very soon:

GT 5

Uncharted 3

WOW Beta

FIFA 12

Max Payne 3

Diablo 3

BF 3

+ 20 Games on the iPad.

Not enough hours in the day. :)

And you still find time to work and earn money to play for all those games, I'm impressed ;-)

Are you serious? I havent cared about GW2 so havent read about it.. So there are no levels only artistic numbers showing how long you played?

No you are mistaken.

Taken from GW2 Wiki

Dynamic level adjustment alters the level and attributes of a character based on the area they are in. For example, a level 50 character (their real level) in a level 10 area will have their attributes reduced roughly to those of a level 10 character (their effective level).

In other words, thes no character progression and everyone is the same everywhere

Nope. A 80 downgraded to (e.g.) level 5 will still have better gear and all his secondary abilities and trait lines unlocked. He will do better than a real level 5, but without being overpowered, there will still be danger for him too.

Which makes sense if you think about it... the wolf who bite your ass at level 5 remains a wolf when you hit level 80. You got better at combat so you have a minor advantage, but the wolf is still able to bite a part of you off eventually... just like a 10 year old kid can perfectly stab a grown up adult kung fu master in the back and eventually kill him.

So you're saying that generation N-1 work harder and are less lazy than generation N?

Ask your parents what they think about your generation. Ask your grandparents what they think about your parent's generation.

But if they're smart and do even a modicum of introspection, they'll understand just how much of a lie generationism is.

Everything I witness confirms that this generation is lazier and more "hand me everything on a silver plater" than mine. I'm lucky enough to have one of my parents still alive (my mother, her age is not your business of course) and she thinks the same. And I think the slap in the face will happen approx. in 2050, when the oil reserves of the whole planet will get rare and everybody will have to change his way of life or succumb. That's the generation that will suffer for the current generation's lack of care and lazyness.

But that's out of topic, so that will be my last answer about this :)

EDIT: oh, and to make it clear, that's not a generalization either. Many of the actual generation are actually courageous and work hard. There are just more lazy ones among them than before, more focused on "self entitlement". This actually makes the merits of those who don't fall for that easy way of life even greater :)

You did what ?

Thats just utterly stupid.. one of the big draws to BF3 is the fact you can progress over time and earn new unlocks as you go thats part of the fun...

To remove that would remvoe a massive part of the game :(

I cant even think of a word to describe how stupid that is..

If this idea has no place in an FPS like BF3 it really has no place even as an idea in the MMMORPG world..

All this instant gratification stuff is the opposite of what an MMORPG should be..

I'm two generations behind of the current one... and yeah, everything I witness confirms that this generation is lazier and more "hand me everything on a silver plater" than mine. I'm lucky enough to have one of my parents still alive (my mother, her age is not your business of course) and she thinks the same. What about the men who fought through the hell that was WWII only to come home and raise ungratful hedonists through the 50s and 60s? They raised the men who fought in Vietnam.

What about the men who fought through WWI only to come home and raise the playboys and rabble-rousers of the big band era? They raised the men who fought in WWII.

If you look through history, all the way back to Africa, you'll see the same pattern.

There on to me. ;)

No seriously, the point i'm trying to get across in this post is... where do AreaNet draw the line on what's available? Also if things are not going too well, ie money needed we could easily see these purchases introduced to draw in revenue.

this slippery slope argument has been discussed exhaustively on these forums.

my usual cut and paste response is:

there is no evidence for what you suggest. the best evidence we have is what is already occurring in GW1, you may view their cash shop now and then evaluate it based on evidence rather than speculation.   while that is not an indicator you should wholly trust, it is much more reliable than speculation based on an informal logical fallacy.

Well, my last answer about this generation stuff (really this time): two wrongs don't make one right. I don't care if there were slackers in the 50s or 60s, that doesn't make today's slackers right.

And you can't compare what happened during world wars to what happens normally. You may thank whatever god(s) you pray that we didn't get a world war in our generaltion(s), even though it was close quite a few times.

I understand nobody likes to hear that kind of things, but it's the sad truth. We are back into a world of superficiality, consumerism, no care for tomorrow or for our kids, hand ME, ME and ME (yes, ME that special snowflake) everything on a silver platter, and the next generations are going to pay for it. You even have an example of it here, where people complain about the cash shop because they think the $60 they paid for the initial game covers the cost of making a game like GW2.

And this time I'm really done with it. If you want to talk more about it, we need to take it to some off topic forum.

Korrigan, out... ;-)

You seem to misunderstand the system. Here's an explanation that may help you understand how it really works.

As part of levelling includes the gaining of not only trait points, but also skill purchased with skill points, a higher level player would already have an advantage when scaled down. How armor and weapons work into the equation I'm not 100% sure, there seemed to be a difference with say, level 20 green weapons in a level 4 area, vs level 4 weapons in a level 4 area. On top of the fact that you'd have all equipment slots filled by then as well which of course helps..

So, not only would you have tons of skill points invested in traits that a lower level wouldn't have (which generally augemnt abilities) but you'd also have usable skills that aren't available to lower levels and more skills than a lower level would have. A bigger arsenal to draw from. You still can't wade in like an idiot and expect to steamroll everything though.

Which is excellent, it means you can advance your level 65 character in a level 15 area if you liked the area, still be challenged and still gain appropriate loot and XP. This also, very importantly, allows for future content additions to be made to any and all level ranges rather than simply 80-85, then 85-90...etc. That's simply huge, and something other games haven't really been able to take advantage of.

Plus, the fact that there are multiple roads to customizing your characters specialization further invalidates your (clearly uninformed) notion that there is no character progression. There is in fact, countless ways to spec your character which have a profound impact on how your character plays.

There are a lot of new elements in GW2 that haven't been seen before, so not fully comprehending how the system works is understandable. Especially when people continually prove themselves wrong by making a claim that anyone who's actually familiar with the game can identify as false. There's clearly a lot of misinformation (especially on these boards for some reason).

Anyway, now you know that that's not the case :D

I initially thought the same as you when I'd first heard of the system, so I was relieved to discover I was wrong.

Edit: Just wanted to add that it's a one way system, so there's another area where you can clearly see your advancement, as it allows you to experience higher level content as you advance.

A very good post, Valkaern.

To say it another way...

In EQ/WoW clones, the further you progress, the further the world becomes useless to you, and when you finally hit "end game" aka "max level", only a tiny part of the world remains usefull for you.

In GW2, it's the total opposite. The more you progress, the more of the world opens to you and becomes usefull for you, and even at level 50, you can still go help a friend in the level 5 area and get rewarded like a level 50 character.

GW2 works like UO/AC1 more than like the EQ model.

How about this, pay me 200 dollars, and I will do this for you, I will create a character, pass the tutorial, then sell it to you, it will only take me 10~15 minutes. Because you can become Max Level right after tutorial, just go to the Mist and you are instantly lvl 80 in W v W v W, and in Structured PVP. It will be the easiest $200 that I will ever earn.
