I've been playing MMO's since my brother-in-law showed me UO back in 2001, then 3 years in UO, 3 years in Lineage2, couple of years raiding in WoW, couple of years immersed in Darkfall and on and off returning to Lotro (thank you for having lifetime memberships). I've found my home for the next few years (no not months, years). I'd been soloing in this game so far (apart from running the first dungeon - BoL) but last night I joined a guild on the new PvP server - yes they have already catered to demand and started a 4th pvp server. I transferred all 3 toons to the new server (at no cost). One of the guys wanted to hit some BAM's for a quest (level 24ish). By the time I had got to him he had added 3 more people to the group. We then spent the most fun hour I've had in MMO's for years belting these BAMs. Mind you, this is on a pvp server where everyone can "go red" on you, however we easily grouped with people and had an absolute ball. I cannot wait to log in again today. I dont remember the last time I felt this enthusiastic for my MMO. My wife isnt too happy about it, she can see my enthusiasm. I dont need to preach to people the merits of this game. Its going to be huge. Word of mouth will make this game grow. I have 2 issues at the moment. 1. I love my beserker for PvE but I know my archer is the better pvp toon for my latency. I also love my priest toon. So I cant help but play 3 toons in parallel. Not so wise on a pvp server and I know I'll get my ass kicked when people hit the cap, but I love all 3 toons. 2. If there was one thing I would want from other games it would be Lotros ingame voicechat. Seriously the combat is so good and immersive, if I group with randoms for BAM's etc I dont want to be watching the chat box and typing, I want to fight and speak. I love Lotro's voice chat. This game needs the same. Anyway, back to the game. And yes while its more difficult for aussies with our 250 ping to Chicago I'm sure I can cope. I wouldn't want to be playing anything else now... Playing: Lotro, DFUW |

BINGO! GW2 has changed the MMO standard, as subsription based MMOs are DEAD. May $15 rest in peace. Fear the Alien, the Psyker, the Heretic, the moronic Steam Moderator. |

So I need some help. I wanna buy Tera. The game looks sick and I’ve been excited for a long time. Here is the thing though, I dont have a gaming computer and wont have one until late june. I can apparently run it above minimum and except for my processor almost recommended. Is it worth buying? Does anyone have similar specs? Will it run alright? I want to play the game thoroughly and I have very low lag tolerance. I dont want to waste my time. Thoughts? Inbox me or ask me with an opinion please before I go spending 50 bucks. Examples of other games I play’s graphic settings: League: Highest SWTOR(not anymore): medium TF2: Highest |

I've not played since the first open beta and was waiting for headstart to begin before trying it again. I think TERA is a really great game, it's a complete change from the run of the mill MMO's we've seen this last few years. The graphics are top notch, there arnt many bugs, the classes are fun but the real draw is the combat. I've levelled my warrior to 38 and it's been a blast, done the three dungeons that were availiable during headstart and all were well presented with no bugs. Looking forward to resuming my adventures on Thursday :) |

Ask yourself this, why didn't other developers follow suit with Guild Wars 1 when they came up with that business model? And also why a sub based mmo (WoW) ended up becoming the biggest mmo in North America :P. |

TERA combat is not innovative in the slightest. Its almost a direct cut and paste from the many asian dungeon crawler pseudo-MMOs and single player action RPGs out there. |

Saying something isn't innovative because it's been seen in another genre is silly, and the post of someone who's obviously got a bias against the game. No other AAA MMOs have that kind of 3rd person shooter combat. It's different than what is currently out there, even if it's been done before in the past. This makes in innovative...period. This would be like me saying that GW2 is a direct rip-off of Rift, Warhammer, and DAoC, or that SWTOR's fully voiced quest system is a ripoff of single player rpgs. It's a silly argument to make.

Not being a real fan of either, but after playing both GW2 and TERA myself, TERA with the no tab target system holds the upper hand on innovative. And no I'm not saying they invented it but compared to number of tab target MMOs it almost feels like.
Personaly, at first I had a hard time in TERA and getting rooted through skill animations, but if you give it a chance and learn it's actualy quite nice system. GW2 - when I tried, I felt like home. It plays exactly like WoW or other themepark games with the added dodging. |

Sorry but them Pegasus portal is freakin awesome....reminds me of AC2's portal (sliders)system of moving about the world. Please for the love of god do not EVER remove this from TERA. I know it might sound lame but this is one of my main selling points of the game! :)~ |

Tera ftw indeed! EU server just went offline, waiting for the launch on 3rd. I made my priest to lvl 32 despite the fact what slow leveller i usually am. At the beginning of the headstart i was little sceptical that i would make my character very high. Somehow levelling went lot faster than i thought, maybe too fast? Anyway it have been blast to find old school mmo that really shines like they used to. Last night i ran SM instance about 8-9 times and every fight at the last spider-thingie boss i was still amazed how bossfight can be so very well made. And overall, whole consept of combat and groupwork is somehow fresh.. even though it still traditional, but there's something that makes it work in a new way or level. I dont want to sound like its gonna work for everyone. Just wanted to share my excitement and praise Tera for its launch! I logged out in Pora Elinu after my first visit there, leaving my toon there to enjoy that magical place ^^ Entering that area gave me shivers.. and thats really something i havent been feeling in ages. |

There are few games that run thousands of players simultaneously. This is what they were aiming for. You can easily play the game using a control pad on the PC. Active collision detection making the combat feel meaty. Remember how many said this wouldn't work in a persistent MMORPG with seamless zones? Collisions between characters, and collisions with projectiles and hazards, are treated separately.
Even ArenaNet backed down from this saying it was too much of a headache. http://www.arena.net/blog/eric-and-ben-answer-your-questions-about-warrior-and-traits
TERA also has:
For an MMO of this magnitude and beauty, how many others can claim the same? Give props, where props are due. Thanks.

Tera has been released (for over a year?). Not an apples to apples beta comparison. Cata is an expantion pack built by an established dev team who added new content to an established 8 year old game . Not an apples to apples to an entirely new game. I played vanilla wow beta and it had its share of bugs. SWTOR beta dungeons were jacked up and for a long time post launch. What i felt went really poorly was the pvp zone post launch. GWII had some wvw lag issues at moments. I dont know if if the CPU gods smiled on me, and a few others, but i experienced very little frame issues where others had big frame problems. Server transfers were screwed on Friday but other than that I think the bugs were typical minor stuff. (1 boss, a waypoint, some armor clipping, and my personal quest bugged)

Just a minor issue - you're not locked to the ground during combat (at least, I'm not as a Priest). I can jump just fine to get out of the way of attacks - though often you may not want to, because it seems if you jump you have a higher chance of being knocked down if you get hit while in the air.

TERA is AWESOME. Its very innovative in combat and even if that's that, so what?! As someone said here, 90% of the time you are combatting so to say "just" is completely to diminish the nature of the innovation! Not to ditch GW2 or anything - beta weekend was amazing and I do miss the dynamic events a lot (i.e. monster emerging out the blue versus TERA where BAMs are all in preteremined locations) but TERA is gorgeous nevertheless and GW2 can't hold a candle to its combat. I will have TERA as sub (finally replacing SWTOR) and GW2 as a sub-free game. Well, maybe TSW too but we'll see how the beta is... And I will use the auction house money from D3 to pay for both :P |

"The Story Quests – The questing in TERA is pretty basic. Even the story quests are. But one thing I really find well done is the cinematic and story-driven campaign that carries you from 1-60. Sure, most of the time you’re killing 6 of this or that, but the story written by some top fantasy authors out at En Masse deserves recognition. Please don’t skip all of the quest text. At least read this bit" I totally and 100% agree with that statement. It is awesome how well crafted the main story line is. I haven't really been involved or cared for a story in many new MMOs as much as with Tera. Side note. You are not invincible. At around 33-40 You will have difficulties not punching out any numbers as a lancer. You will see fights drag on. You will not be able to solo BAMs easily. You will die if dungeon mobs are 2 levels higher than you unlike before for SM and Bastion, CR is somewhat difficult on a lancer who is not up to the task (Mirror Boss and the Mage type boss with multiple AOEs is such a pain in the ass to not take damage from.) Edit: Also jumping in battle reduces your "Balance" which is an in game atribute. The lower this is the higher chance you have to get knocked down. Of course you can jump while swinging your lance or casting a skill. |

Why does every TERA thread turn into GW2 vs TERA? Why are GW2 fanboys so threatened by this game?
The best is "The only thing TERA does well is combat" - You mean that thing you spend 90% of your game time doing? lol, I can see how doing that well is insignificant.
I didn't play GW2, but watching the feeds waiting for my TERA queue to pop I couldn't help but notice that it was simply button spamming. I haven't received a certain answer to my question - Can you be just as effective and get by just fine never using the tab key to target someone? |

Doesn't look interesting in the least. I'll stick with what I'm playing already.

Originally posted by helthros Sorry, but if 90% of the time you spend in an MMO is combat, then that MMO sucks bad. I play Tera, and have a character level 35. Have already cancelled and am playing till D3, as it just isnt compelling. combat does NOT make a game. I play on a PvE server and so far its just mindless questing to max level, then.... And from what i've seen, the Tera fanboys seem to feel more threatened. Seems like they jump on the defense alot more. |

Actually, try saying something bad about GW2 and you are going to get overwhelmed by their fan boys lol. Helthros is correct; you do spend most of your time doing combat in almost all of the MMOs, with the exception of SWTOR (which is mostly cut scenes). I think the biggest selling point for GW2 is their subscription free model, but it's just marketing gimmick, which is working out well for GW2. As for it's being in beta and should not be judge so harshly, remember when Rift was in closed beta, that game was way more polished than most games that was being launch, and if Rift was able to do it with such a low budget, why can't ArenaNet do the same with a much higher budget? |
