Originally posted by sonoggi I would not go that far. TOR made a lot of money, and TERA has a good amount of interesting features. I just don't understand the mentality that I'm somehow not giving an MMO a fair chance by not playing it till lv 20 (even if it only takes 3 or so sessions) when those first 20 levels are so bad. |

And, only thing worth watching in GBT is Mike B, a couple of the "reporters" and a bunch of the guests right now, but kids like Gannon are getting really annoying and taking away a lot from the shows, he really seem to have become a true douche, his mouth moves a lot and a lot of noise comes out but he doesent really say anything, else than some waste of time fanboy influenced frothing. The last things I want to hear in a games/mmorpgs show like theirs is some guy telling me what I should enjoy or not, stomping some game into the ground without basically any explanation while telling everyone that he has only few hours spent in that game.
That's extremely unprofessional (I know, he's not professional, that's not the point) and makes the show look cheap and heavily biased. Only thing that saved that TWIMMO episode was Mike B. because he actually had a lot to say, stuff that means something and he explains himself, had experience behind his words and he can objectively look at both good and bad and not just one side like some mindless fanboy embarassing himself in front of the internet. You can see the frustration of Mike B. in the episode when Gary begins to act like your average mmorpg.com forum troll.
It's not about the games in question, it's about the all time low in quality of that show. Gary should be only in the shows that are about the games he is a fan of, at least then he is a bit more excited and actually has to say quite a lot, unlike the time wasting troll we saw in the last episode who seemed like he really does not want to be there, but has to make noises because he is there. |

I played both and actually proffered TERA except it doesn't have WvWvW and the latency issues from Australia make it unplayable if you want to be even slightly competitive. So I will not be getting TERA but instead GW2 and D3 until that is ready!
Take everything and give nothing back |

"How do you see GW2 the same as SWTOR? One runs down corridors. Has stationary combat. And NO exploration. While the former is completely open world (go where you want). Active/moving combat and tons of things to find in the world. If anything they are diametrically opposed."
Mainly that they felt that they needed a personal storyline and cutscenes. I personally think they could of done without. |

Tera bored me after less than an hour playing already. The quests in Tera are so bland that it makes one think the WoW quests were written my an award winning fantasy author. Granted they have a good graphics engine, but the heavily Asiatic art style made me want to puke more than once (those ugly midgets you have to kill as soon as the starter area... this is pokemon, not a MMORPG). GW2 grabbed me in the first hour and made me want to play more. Not having to follow bland quests on rails but being able to choose what I want to do and where I want to do it is just priceless. The art is excellent, not that heavy manga style that makes me sick just by looking at it. Oh, and did I mention one starter zone per race, and several story lines for the same class depending on what option you choose at character creation, instead of a single starter area? Tera is bland crap compared to GW2. The only good thing it had was combat, but even there GW2 beats it with the weapon swapping and advanced character customization. And of course, GW2 is F2P. The only way I think someone could prefer Tera to GW2 is if he is into manga style graphics. |

I was even alot faster then you to came to conclusion TERA must be removed from my harddisk after 20min becouse it brings nothing new to game its again follow linair path through quest hubs and kill 10x these mobs or deliver a letter to npc b. Guild Wars 2 is so much more and so much better its even embarrissing the least if you compare both games. I quit Guildwars 2 for now im fed up with empty world:(... played:AC-Darktide,AC2-Darktide,L2 and Darkfall.Solo Fav games:Morrowind,DayZ(PLAYING NOW), Skyrim, Bioshock, Age of Empires 2, Soldiers of fortune 2 and many more... |

People are different... I can't agree to most of the posts here... in my eyes the combat in Tera is so much better than in GW2 - I guess I can never move back to point and click MMOs. Besides the quest which are truly good in GW2 it doesnt offer anything nice. The PvP for me is completly crappy... I hate instanced PvP! Nothing is better than Open World PvP with politics and drama and not about stupid rankings. But well there is something for everyone. But if I count everything together and if I take the awesome graphics of tera (and the so fluid animations and combat feeling with collision detection etc.). All other MMOs just feel so old :) Our guild is having a blast in Tera and we will definately skip GW2 for now. Let's see how Teras endgame is... and how long we are hooked there. But it looks like due to the open dynymic of the game it will be much longer than any arena or battleground instance pvp can give us. Currently playing: Tera |

Originally posted by The_Korrigan I'm into manga style graphics. :( However, no, I tried last night to play through Tera alittle. It just bored me. The only thing that gave a decent challenge was soloing the BAMS and even then some of the boss mobs in GW2 are more challenging. (One field boss, that gave me hell was one of the ghost captains that kept sucking everyone into melee range and dropping his banner of discipline to increase his crit chance. If you did not dodge the moment he finished pulling you in he will hit you for half your health or even all if he crits. That bastard sucks so much ass and showed that dodging is freaking crucial.) Also, I just mentally shut down on the regular mobs. I even round them up to give myself a little challenge. BOOYAKA! |

I did have to aim AoEs on the ground with a ground target, but I don't see that as such a horrible thing. /shrug Oh....and I did MISS my target a few times because I was out of range. Again....I don't see that as a bad thing.
And for the record, since I've seen comments about it in this thread....I LOVE the personal story part. LOVE it. But I love a good story, I love lore, it's all fascinating to me, so it's a natural extension of that for me to love personal stories. I enjoyed that part of SWTOR too. Meh....I guess sue me? Anyway.....very glad to have the personal story line. President of The Marvelously Meowhead Fan Club |

The main problem I have with all these posts is that it feels that the people bashing Tera have only played it for 20 mins or less. This doesn't lead to a fair comparison. Currently I'm lvl 30 in Tera and made it to 11 in GW2. I can't emphasize enough that Tera doesn't really get fun until 20+ where BAMS, PvP and Dungeons start. I know that's a game design flaw, but I urge all of you not to judge by the first 5 minutes of play. |

Originally posted by Squidgerino It is indeed a design flaw. I am regretful as I played in the Open beta and got to lv 16 with my warrior and had enough. After the event was over and seeing all the posts about how you need to get past 20 for it to get good, I kind of wish I had the chance to try it again, but I don't want to buy into it. I wish I had another chance at the beta..... :( |

"PvP bullys will love it and its ability to allow you to PK anyone at any time and wage war on anyone at any time" you do relize its people like you who ruin what true world pvp is in mmos nowadays right?
true world pvp isnt some glorified battleground like ilum and guild wars 2's wvwvw system they got.world pvp is,going out into the world with a couple of buddies and smashing people.its such a shame that the whiners ruined that aspect of pvp in mmos although,i dont really see Tera doing very well anyway.you know a korean mmo has failed when casuals on a casual mmo are playing it,hince ive seen alot of people talking about Tera in swtor's fleet chat lately

Originally posted by CrunkJuice2 "True" PvP, as you call it, is a place where anything can happen and you always have to be on your toes. It can be glorious and chaotic at is best. Unfortunatly, its also a place where angsty teenagers overcompensate for being grounded, jerks who thrive on makeing other players game experience garbage, and losers who get a thrill from beating another character 30 levels below thier own. Real victory comes from the knowlege that your opponent has all the same chances you do to win, and still crushing them into powder. Thats what GW2 PvP tries to offer. Its a shame that every game that doesnt cater to the PvP pureists gets flamed. |

Well I still think you cant compare combat in Tera and GW2. Tera uses a real FPS approach. All of your positions and actions and those of your foes are 100% accuracte and synched. All executions of your skills are (at leas tif you ping is below 100 - which it should in europe) absolute instant and without delay (just think like a normal shooter). I tried it with my wifes PC -> when I move on my PC I instantly move on her PC too - something I haven't yet seen in any MMO. There is absolutely no skill delay, lag etc. - this alone makes combat so much real time. In GW2 how often did I time the skill wrong because I had to take lag into account - and don't tell me they will fix this. The problems lie in the engine. Tera uses the Unreal 3 Engine... it is made for totally synched fight because its comes from shooters. And that exactly is what I think stands totally out in Tera. Once you get to the later bosses and you fight (or in pvp), timing is so important and the feeling that you don't have any delays, that you feel your enemy due to collision detection etc. is so awesome. Also the fact that hit rating and evasion, solely depends on you and not on skills/level/gera is a big plus. Regarding PvP ... well some people prefer instanced PvP and some prefer open World PvP with Politics and Drama instead of points and rankings and fairness. I guess that just depends on your mmo carrier... Currently playing: Tera |

Tell us,what else do you know about their engine? How long did you work at ArenaNET on the engine that you know so much about it? Please, share with us! You mean, hit rating and evasion works just like in GW2? :D By the way, there's a Tera forum on this site too in case you didn't know ;) |

Sorry I didn't wanted to say something bad in your forum... but I thought it was a VS thread ;) I don't know anything about their engine... I just speak from experience. Those are cores things that can't be simply changed. Its all about how you design an engine. I know that it is like this in GW too, but just look on 2 pcs what happens... its FAR from being truly synchronized like tera is. You can talk about that you like the story much more and questing and whatever other features, but the "true combat" and animations are definately not compareable to Tera :) - otherwise you haven't really played it yourselve, beyond the starter area... Originally posted by Squidgerino For the game to be fun, why do you have to wait until level 30? For the game to "capture your imagination" and find the game fun to play, I certainly don't want to have to wait to achieve a level 30 for that "fun" factor to kick in. |
