Get used to it, gamers are suckers.

I don't feel like a sucker but if this is what it feels like to be a sucker then i want more of that please. I did feel like a real sucker after buying swtor though.

And make no mistake fans, we are PAYING TO TEST this game.

Is THAT why it's called a Beta TEST?

Well fuck me, PRE-ORDER CANCELLED

No, it is called a beta EVENT...

Using the word event gives the perception that the game is in anearly finished state, use the word TEST and people SHOULD know that there are things to be worked out.

But you feel free to spin it any direction you want.

"Testing" is in implied in "beta." Anyone with even the tiniest fraction of computer software knowledge should know this.

Well, alright, to be fair, too many game developers are now making "beta" synonomous with "demo/pre-release preview" when that's not what a beta is or has ever been, leading to some confusion. GW2 is a strait up beta, as in "there will be bugs, there will be crashes, there will be stability issues," etc.

At the end of the day, however, you ARE NOT paying to "test the game." You are paying to purchase the full release version of the game in advance, and getting guarenteed early beta access as a bonus for buying it now instead of at release. If  prelease purchases were, say, ten dollars more than what the game would cost on release day there might be a point to be made.

About the apple issue...

Yes, in other games you have to collect apples for a quest giver, i.e. collect ten apples and turn in quest, but GW2 it can be a lot different..

For one, the apple quest is a dynamic quest that is not always there...the main heart quest is to do a bunch of spider and bat aquishing in the orchard. While you are spider squishing, the event comes up for the pies...also, while I was busy collecting apples and squishing spiders, another event launched where a bunch of spiders came along and we had to deal with that wave, while collecting apples during a limited timeframe and while this was going on, another dynamic quest launched where a big mama spider came along and we had to squish her, while killing waves of spiders, and delivering the apples for the pies, while all along defending the orchard, sooo...

It is not the same thing, period.

Still the same mundane tasks that people thought this game would revolutionize.

The heart of this issue is no one gives a fck about an orchard, or apple pie, or spiders that for no reason are attepmting to overtake this orchard during your quest to get apples for apple pie....im sure there are better examples of dynamic events in this game because that sounded pretty lame overall.

The mechanics are strikingly similair to other games that used dynamic events, had timers on them, had multiple objectives, and had diffrent stages.

While dynamic events are a step forward compared to static npc's and static quests, it all boils down to serving up the same pointless storylines that intrest few.

Sadly this is one thing SWTOR got right, one of the few things it did get right.  Id much rather disable power generators to access an acient robot factory, learn about some mysterious machine that grows and is somehow sustaining an acient peoples who worship and tend to the machine, then have the option to kill them all and steal their machine as they offer a seed from it so that i may over time grow my own machine...that was interesting.

I loathe the helping lazy farmers with mundane tasks where the outcome doesnt matter, and many others do as well.  You can turn them into dynamic events but it still boils down to mundane and boring tasks for npc's that are too lazy, where the end result is a non factor.

So...it is the same thing, just deliverd diffrently and all at once.  Wouldnt have matterd if you talked to 5 npc's and got the apple collecting and spider squashing ect quests or if you walked into the orchard and got the quests magically deliverd to you just by being there at the right time.

This is what dissapoints people, not necessarily the rehashed dynamic event mehcanics, but the reasoning.

I don''t have to know how to make a better game, I only need to know where the "CANCEL" button is!

4/29/12 12:41:09 PM#64

Typical buyer's remorse, but this time for a game that you knew, up front, that your Pre-Purchase granted you access to BETA TEST events. The game isn't finished an you're already whining. No one was misled by ArenaNet. Why is it when so many people make poor choices, they always start casting about looking for someone else to blame?

Apparently, the malcontents need to be reminded that Guild Wars 2 will not be charging a monthly fee to play. Once you buy the box, you can have as much or as little of it as you like. That, in itself sets it miles above the current crop of MMOs. And don't even dare compare it to the recently released "Failed to gain enough subs, so now we're Free-To-Play" games that are now in vogue.

I've been at it since Friday, and ArenaNet has done a pretty good job. Little by little, I'm figuring things out and finding plenty to do. Then again, I've outgrown throwing tantrums when things aren't exactly as I want them. Welcome to the real world.

Don't whack trees and collect apples, simple as that. If you don't want to do all the extra quests, don't, explore and level grind. So far the storyline quests that I have experienced are just killing, is that what you want?

Anyone have any idea what the OP's smoking that's making him believe that everyone that's going to play GW2 beta has had to pre-order the game?

Must be some powerful shit.

Sad to say the best PvP is still DaOC. If only some company would just polish off that game, improve the graphics a bit and implement a good crafting system, you wouldn't need any other MMO.

If you want it to be constructive then you need to actually be unbiased.  In a nutshell herp a derp gop back to WoW.

GW2 is amazing and any who believes otherwise is not a fan of innovation and are a fool for the unoriginality of uninspiring gameplay that sucks the life force out of anything remotely fun.

The only downside to GW2 from a gameplay perspective is minor and personall opinion, the elements it has (which are many) it does them as well as any game on the market.  The only negative is the performance and those will be fixed as we go along in beta.......yea you read that right BETA, the phase that developers optimize their clients and polish whats in.  Its not like GW2 has many a broken elements that other games release with *cough* SWTOR or even Tera.

In a nutshell coolit with the cool kid innuendos and become a responsible tester or dont even paly at all!!!!!!

Anyone else see the irony in this post? lol

what? no way, that was a very UNBIAS reply, i mean he even said "cool kid" c'mon, with multiple exclamation marks. The extra !!!! made sure it was an unbiased reply.

lol ahhh man i have more entertainment with the fanboy replies than anything else

Constructive comments... hmmm, ok so first of all your writing this like a screaming 5 year old using the "Caps lock is cruise control for Awesome" Ideal.

Second of all they never said they got rid of quests, what they said is that they wouldnt be the crutch of the game like all other MMORPG's to be released.

Going over what you said in about the beta makes me come to a very suprising conclusion. that its a beta, Things don't work in beta's thats why they have them.

Lastly it's been thrown back in your face afew times OP, but if they were paying for Beta then they would have to pay again when the game comes out. This they do not, its a pre-order, they still get the full game without a second purchase.

Because i can.

HORRIBLE ANIMATIONS/COMBAT MECHANICS - I don't know why are you telling that, but for those are the best animations and mechanics I've ever seen in MMORPG game. The combat mechanics in this game makes it different from other MMORPGs because here the combat is based on action, players skill and logic so its not like other games that when you're in combat you just stay at same plase and pressing "1,2,3,F1,1,2,3,F1 etc..." and waiting for your gear to win, because actually "the gear its playing and not the player".

Wierdly enough u r the only one answered to the more serious part of the OP's thread which is combat and mechanics.

Just so the rest ppl that have not tested it so far, which combat style it reminds u more? Oblivion ,M&B ,Skyrim,Tera,Ddo? Which of the above combat systems is closer in similarities so we understand better the way combat works?

A little of all maybe be the best awenser to that it's hard to explain the monsters cant hit you if you aint in their melee range so you can basically run up hit the monster run back before they swing and take no dmg what so ever, but if they do hit you it hurts bad , so you gotta becarful when 3 melee monsters are running at you at the sametime. Bow classes have it really easy in pve cause they can just run and  shoot over and over and slow the monster then shoot bomb arrows at their own feet as the monsters running at them over and over to do big dmg.

Ok,thnks for the answer it was eluminating. 1 question about the lattency. In other mmo's which are rather simplier in mechanics like wow for example during pvp despice the fact everything auto-guided spells attacks ,arrows, etc when u have the usual lattency many ppl have 150-200 u have problems when facing ppl with 30-50 latt everything they do goes faster than your reactions attacks moves etc.

Isnt it going to be a problem if the gw2 game server is not friendly to mid-going connections since combat  is ,well, more manual than the usual mmo's we played so far? I mean u try to attack x guy in melle he moves fast to the left while in your screen hes still there he's actually more far to the left ..what's goign to happen in those occasions?

K? Also beta test is a test, it's a test, not a final product, stuff that you mentioned are supposed to be tested in a test before release to not have those problems.

What did you expect from questing? Really curious, you sound like you are dissapointed because there's stuff to do in the game. Or did you just wish that there's no scripted tasks? Please answer, I kinda dont know how else to present progression except crafting, grinding and events, unless you want to reward people for standing still and farting around.

I'm not even much of a fan of GW2 if at all, sometimes I just dont understand the point of some complaints, at all...

You always had the option to not buy the game; its not like anyone held a gun at your head forcing you to do it.  If the only reason you pre-purchased the game was to get into the 'glitch lagfest, server slideshow, the inability to get into game'....I mean beta test, then that is all on you.  Betas can, and often do, have gamebreaking issues.  That is why the game is still in beta.

I tried every class except Mesmer, and found the animations and combat mechanics to be pretty good.

While I did spend some time on an overflow server, I found that to be a lot better than having to sit in a queue waiting to be able to actually login.

Cannot comment on Battlegrounds as I think they are utter crap compared to world PVP, so do not take part in them.

Sure, there are quests, but so what? it is a good system really, especially when you mix in the DEs.

You do not have to pay to enter the beta, if you do not want to buy the game yet, you can still get into beta, you are just not guarenteed an invite.

While I agree it is not ready for release yet, I do not think it is as bad as you are trying to make it sound.

I dont know why people say animations are bad, I think they are ok.

Also WvWvW was fun as hell. When this game comes out I will be playing pvp exclusively, not sure why some dont like combat. I think it's cool. Last time I enjoyed PVP was in OU. Here it's different, probably not as good as it was in UO, but it's still so much better than rift battlegrounds for example.

Pve is mediocre and is like every other themepark game, so I dont care about it.

I think you need a batter computer before you buy a new game released in 2012. My family and I all played the game at the same time (4 people 1 internet connection 4 different computer specs) While i will not claim that all 4 of us had liquid smooth FPS none of us had what you describe.

Oh and fyi, i live in Barrow Alaska, and my pings are through the roof, even with my wife and kids playing i was still just fine in all WvW and competitive PvP.

Also, they tout WE DONT HAVE QUESTS IN DIS HERE GAME, but believe me, smacking trees so apples fall out and you having to pick up ten of them so an npc can bake you a pie?!?!?!?!? Same sht, different method……/shrug

Not sure what you wanted here, there are no Question mark quest givers like in WoW/Clones, the events in the beginning areas are just that, there for beginners, so of course they will not be as dynamic as other areas in the PvE world.

And make no mistake fans, we are PAYING TO TEST this game. Regardless of how much you OMGILOVEDISGAME, we are testing it. I mean, seriously Anet, what the fk??!?!? Having to pay to enter beta is not kosher. It feels like Anet is running out of dev funds, and need to sponge off the future players to keep it going.

I pre-purchsed the released game, along with that Pre-purchase i get automatic access to the beta's. I was prepared to buy 4 copies of this game regardless of beta access, as far as i have read, most of those who have pre-purchased understand this.

Yes, there are a few things I like about the game, the ability to dodge, and the environment is beautiful…

Overall, I think we wont see this game for months, dare I say, end of summer? Either way, this game is in no way ready for release.

I agree that this game is not ready for release, but then again i understood this before i went into the game.

You seem to not understand what a beta test is, here is a definition for you...

A test for a computer product prior to commercial release. Beta testing is the last stage of testing, and normally can involve sending the product to beta test sites outside the company for real-world exposure or offering the product for a trial download over the Internet. Beta testing is often preceded by a round of testing called alpha testing.

I hope the above helps you make a better decision about spending money on things you do not understand, i feel bad that you felt you had to pay for GW2 in order to test a game you hate. There was a chance to sign up for the beta test and they selected from over 1 million applicants, so i think your chances to get selected were somewhere between 1 and a million.

Is THAT why it's called a Beta TEST?

Well fuck me, PRE-ORDER CANCELLED

The issue is PAYING TO TEST.......Have an opinion on that????

Marc, if you paid to test, you're doing it wrong. Poeple paid to get the game. Logging in for beta is a perk. Your rage is entertaining, though, so I encourage you to stay the path, man - fight this injustice!

OP complaining about picking apples. Meanwhile, I'm in a town that gets attacked by a 30 foot tall giant who proceeds to abuse me the way a 30 foot tall giant is expected to. Only when enough people showed up and worked together to bring the giant down, help each other with rezzing, etc. did we succeed.

OP needed to get out more.

Oderint, dum metuant.

Well, to be honest I didn't play any of these games so I can't compare the games, but I can explain you with details the combat mechanics.

So in GW2 the combat is based on action. I'll start with the targeting. So you press TAB to change targets or select them with mouse, left click = select target, right click = select target + auto attack when in range. Once you've selected a target you don't need to move the camera with the mouse all the time, the character is automatically directed to target when you use a skill but the camera is not moving automatically. If you use a skill, but you're not in range with target, the skill is going to be used as noramally and the cooldown will count as usual. You can see if you're in range with target from the key bindings under the skill, they are white if you are in range and red if not.

In GW2 we have dodging ability. With this ability you can dodge any skill, from simple player's skills to boss massive destruction skills. But dodging uses energy from the energy bar at the right of your health, every dodge uses about 2/5 of the bar capacity so you can use dodging 2 times in a row. The bar needs about 5 seconds or so to refill.

Movement is very important in the cobat. If you move too much you can dodge attacks and be out of range for some enemies without doing much. Professions with melee combat style usualy have skills with fast movement so there isn't any advantage to be a caster because any warrior / guardian / thief (I don't mention mesmer because he combines melee and casting) can get near a caster very fast from long distance. In GW2 there is no any profession with advantage so you choose the profession you like more.

I hope that helped you, if you have anymore questions you can ask here.

Sorry for bad English. :)
