The lack of chat bubbles is a big issue for me as well. When you thank someone for rezzing you they generally don't see it, because they're not looking at the chat box. Perhaps chat bubbles is something they'll be adding soon?

 

Other that this I pretty much am super impressed with the state and polish of this game.

I think its because everyone are busying playing and trying out the game. BWE is only open for 2 days+.

When the game launched and everyone settled down, more chat will happen i am sure.

This was not the case on my server!

But please bear in mind that compared to the betas of most games NOBODY AND I MEAN NOBODY mentioned WoW in the chat. I remember Rift and Tera where everybody said WoW is this and that. For the sole reason that GW2 poops on the rest of MMOs :D.

Well, GW2 doesn't have a general chat where people can constantly spam it with how X game sucks compared to Y game, and so forth.

Plus like others have said a lot of people were just too engaged to actually chat it up :P Actions speak louder than words, and most of the time that I was fighting with other players, we knew what we all wanted to get done, and thats what we did, but here and there I would strike up a convo, and people were more than welcoming to chat.

Maybe if what you like to do is sit around in a town and watch it fly by and then chime in here and there. But most gamers were actually gaming. It didn't feel lifeless to me, and if for whatever reason I did feel like community was missing, I would look up at all the people that were right there with me fending off invading centaurs/bandits. That feeling would never last.

I totally agree with the lack of communication. I find it odd too how when you PVP, you aren't in a "party" ? I think it would help alot to be honest.

I went around asking how I can get to Lion's arch and literally NO one told me whether it was in queensland or just in the mists, it wasn't until I went into divinity's reach did I receive an answer, MANY answers in fact. Also, I was on a overflow server most of the time (never once got into the "real" server my entire weekend), not sure if that makes any difference.

People would talk if there was a general chat no matter how busy they are. I'd personally like an area chat as I did miss the usual chat spam :) Local chat isn't enough.

Dunno, over on Maguuma there was quite the community presence. I'm sure other people from the MMORPG.com guild can attest to this. Very vocal server, people helped each other out a lot. It was a blast.

There are some things that could be better, as far as chat goes, but it felt fine w/ out it. I'm sorry to hear you're server didn't feel that way, though =/.

Chat bubbles on Local would be nice, so it would be easier to see if someone near you speaks.

But my only gripe is that the leveling seems too fast. In about 15-hours I got to level 18 and with little effort would have been 20. They have said that leveling doesn't have a curve, so that means next level is as easy to get as the last level. So it seems to take about 1-hour per level and thus level 80 in 80 game hours.

I know you can go back and do all the stuff you skipped as deleveled character or go for altoholic aproach. But would have liked to see the journey to top level taking a bit longer than couple of weeks. Will still buy the game and play it, cause it's that good IMO. Hope to see lot's of new content coming up soon too.

Yah area chat would be nice, and maybe it will be in the final game :)

I don't miss Barrens chat in every zone, all the time.

That said, I'll agree with others that it certainly wasn't a spam fest.  I know that for me, I was probably more focused on what was going on within the game and didn't miss the lack of text chatting.   With most of the dynamic events and other game content providing everyone with the goals/direction/etc, most of the chatter/coordination (at the public level) was rendered unnecessary.

I think I prefer no general channel rather than a free for all one.

 

I haven't seen even one person in chat say, "wow this game sucks," not one.  I have also not seen mention of any other games, which I find more amazing than not seeing anyone say the game sucks.  I have never been in a beta that didn't have CONSTANT mentions of at least WoW, if not EVE and other games.

I did, exactly one. No one responded, no one cared. I giggled and went out to kick some flame legion arse...

Chat was on and off for me.  Sometimes it was really busy and fun and helpful, sometimes dead silent for so long I started to wonder if I was bugged.

I even spent over an hour RPing.  Which was probably stupid and a waste of beta time, but it was pretty funny!  Just a big group of people chatting about the world while in Divinity's Reach, in character.

I have never been a fan of generalizing a games community as bad, you're going to have rejects with anything you do, especially with today's generation.

My only complaint was the lack of  camera distance behind your character and an option to adjust it. (that I could find)
