I am quite surprised tbh.

I certainly did enjoy the beta and do not regret prepurchasing it.

The game will make for a very good backup game and entertain me for a long time

BUT it certainly is not the second coming of MMORPs

Graphics are very very nice the quality is not on par with games like FF14 but the art style makes it look just beatifull in fact i found myself enjoying exploring the worlds and even more the citys (just breathtaking citys in the game) most of all.

Questing,,,,,oh well i fear that i did not play a more grindy game since i played FF11 but i had way more fun grinding in 11 than i have in GW2.

So we dont have an npc telling us what to do but that does not mean we dont have quests the world map shows you the quest hubs where you have to help out an npc till you maxed out your karma with them at which point you will get an mail with your reward and it also will open up the NPC as a merchant where you can spend your just earned points.

Here is where it becomes bad i had to collect eggs apples metal bars and many more items i also had to collect cow food and feet it to the cow or collect fish and feet it to the bear and i do that over and over again till my karma bar is filled up...not entertaining and not fun at all.

If you are lucky you are getting in on one of the events going on at this quest hubs they were certainly fun but nothing new really public quests in WAR or Rifts were the same and in many cases even more enjoyable in GW 2 we have waves of mobs coming towards us and we have to fend them off or sometimes a big boss (which somehow most of the time was named broodmother..) would appear and wait for us to give it a good beating.

There were better events as well which actually would have an impact on the world but at least the ones in the starting areas follow the same scheme fend of waves or escort NPCs rinse and repeat.

The fighting was somewhat enjoyable even tho it feels like range attacks are way more reliable in pve than close combat fights it just doesn't make much sense to evade away from the mob as close combat fighter since i cant deal dmg when i am not close its easy to figure out the way with evades and stuff but it just feels not balanced compared to range classes.

Overall its an enjoyable game with some gorgeous citys and stunning sights to be seen fun combat and some fun events so it has all i wanted it to have as a backup game but for a real gem it feels too grindy and repetitive

The quality of the beta was decent i did not encounter many bugs but the performance problems (worst lags i had in a while) especially in the Char starter area and long time DCs from the game with no way of knowing what the prob was certainly do not qualify this beta to be labeled one of the smoothest betas ever,.,,,,,

I am genuinely no longer sure I will play the game. And I usually play pretty much anything. Even with mediocre games there is always something to like about them.

For GW2. Everything is incredibly good, except for the combat which is horrid. and that is a huge problem because combat is everything. It is the very foundation of the game. You can have good combat, boring combat, ok combat, even sluggish combat and still get away with an MMO if everything else is good. But bad combat is a deal breaker. You just have to deal with it too much for it to be overlooked.

Now, maybe I just haven't figured out the trick to how to do it right in GW2. Maybe there is a way to do it that I am just missing. But having talked to people in game and on the beta forums I don't think I am doing anything wrong. You can dodge big attacks. they usually telegraph those or put a big red targeting circle on the ground. The problem is the normal damage. You cant seem to get away from it if you are melee. You circle strafe constantly but you only avoid damage at random. Lots of aoe damage doesn't have targeting circles and it instant. Basically if you are not ranged and you cannot kite the mob. It doesn't really work. Your only hope is to hope that the event has a lot of people and that someone else is going to take the shaft and not you. or that someone will revive you after that wave is done.

Overall, combat seemed more based on luck and zerging than based on any kind of skill. The goal is to not get more than 1 or 2 things mad at you, either alone or in a group.

Perhaps I have also just simply been spoiled by how combat works in TERA. The difference is that in TERA you can reliably avoid damage if you react correctly and quickly. If you do it right, you can take no damage at all. I might get frustrated and flustered if my timing is off and I get slapped around but I know that it can be done.  In GW2 I couldn't figure out the pattern. I couldn't see the correct way to fight. I played every class and non of them completely clicked. The best was Engineer with pistols for me. but even then the combat was only ok.

For every Fan there will be an equally vocal Troll with the opposite opinion.

I quit SWTOR after a month, but I played every second I could during both my beta weekends, and then got a character to 50 within a week after getting my early access. SWTOR lost me as well... I'm just saying...

Now it may be a lot better when it's released and all these server and lag and poor performance issues are fixed. At it's core though, it is still not innovative.

After 1 hour ? lool

You are very fast knowing if a game is good or not...

GW2 is just like every other game that came out previously.  Its going to be a good game, but like every game there are at least a few areas that need some attention.  I have never experienced an MMO game that didn't need some kind of patches/enhancements  either during or after a beta or launch release and I have been playing awhile now  lol

People being negative towards a new or upcoming game on this site surprises you???

You've been around here for a while, what was the last game you've heard people be positive about? Good or bad?

Haven't you learned yet that every game is a terrible, genre ending, monstrosity that should be exactly like everything it should be different from? Thats the whole theme of this website

This was very honest, and I can relate. As a Guardian I had a very tough time finding a rythem. As you mentioned, the large red circles were easily avoidable, but regular damage was not so much.

I had a very enjoyable weekend, but I had trouble coming up with many "flawless victorys" where the monster killing was at max efficiency, and everything sort of felt just right.

If anyone did find a groove, I know I'd love to read or watch some kind of combat primer to see if I was missing something. As fun as it was, it did feel kind of spastic and chaotic.

I noticed there are ONLY 5 Troll topics currently on the GW2 boards.  More fake concern over problems not actually in the game lol, during Beta hah. All of this creative ninja trolling wont make TOR a better game.

Lots of people are idiots.  For me GW2 is as close to perfection as you can get and its still in Beta.  I think this game is amazing and will no doubt keep me coming back for years to come.  So much to do and so much to see.  Haters will always hate because they cant stand that a game holds their hands.  Way to many WoW kiddies and self centered elitists around this site.  Just about every where else GW2 is getting rave reviews and if the mods dont start policing some of this utter bullshit nonsense of haters I will leave this forum.

So called WoW kiddies doesn't give a toss about GW2 but that cant be said about the GW2 fanbois that keeps spamming the WoW forums with GW2 threads for the past 1 and a half year.

This site has always attracted more WOW and raid progression type of players, if you want an objective look at GW2 I advise you try the GW2 guru or the official site. TOR fans will and do make up fake problems about the game just for their own amusement. I guarantee you half the negative topics on the GW2 forums were started by people with a heavy posting history in the TOR forums.

MMO's are the ark of the gaming world. let it take us in new directions

It seems that the GTX 460 is kicking this games butt :P. I have a GTX 460 as well...but mine has 2GB instead of 1 ...was hard to find. Seems that everyone with a GTX 460 is having no issues whatsoever....solution: Get a GTX460?

Also im running a quadcore i5..

I understand what you mean, but what he said is true...

Everytime that a good game comes out, some other games fans get so worried that jump on it trying to convince everyone the game is bad wihout even play it.

Its ridiculous but happens a lot arround here. More here than any other forum i would say.

Just check the forum posts on friday when GW2 beta had login issues and you will realise that 90% of posts are from ppl that would say GW2 sucks no matter what. Login issues = epic fail... lol

What i think its funny is that when someone defend what they like is instantly called fanboy by those who bother to spend all day at a forum not to talk about the game they like, but to trash a game they never played... lol

Lots of people are idiots.  For me GW2 is as close to perfection as you can get and its still in Beta.  I think this game is amazing and will no doubt keep me coming back for years to come.  So much to do and so much to see.  Haters will always hate because they cant stand that a game holds their hands.  Way to many WoW kiddies and self centered elitists around this site Just about every where else GW2 is getting rave reviews and if the mods dont start policing some of this utter bullshit nonsense of haters I will leave this forum.

So called WoW kiddies doesn't give a toss about GW2 but that cant be said about the GW2 fanbois that keeps spamming the WoW forums with GW2 threads for the past 1 and a half year.

That sucks too but  2 wrong doesn't make a right.

As one who didn't get in beta I am very surprised so much skeptical and negative opinions are here. I mean, I know no MMO is perfect, but for a first weekend the roses and daisies time surely was brief! Kinda surprised and I still try to sort out which opinion is more reliable. I am quite surprised tbh.

If you have a negative view or let down feeling, I would like to hear some substantial reasons. <.<  >.>  <.<  (No trolling please, real opinions.^^)

It's beta and people don't read.   Despite ANet CLEARLY stating the engine is not optimized and will cause you lag because it's currently too processor dependent, people whine about lag.   Go figure.  So, yes, there was some lag.  They said there would be lag.   There was lag.    Cry if you want, nobody who read the frackin' disclaimers cares...

Some professions still need work.   Engineers are having a tough time because their class might be  a bit under-powered.   I can't say for sure, I played Elementalist, Ranger and Guardian.     There are some additional balance issues. As I mentioned, engineers seem to have issues. Nobody in my Guild complained, but I have read complaints. It seems to be a consensus the Ranger needs a nerf, theives might need a bit of help...   But I'm not so sure they really have a legit complaint about the melee issue.

Which gets me to the melee issue.   Melee requires you unlearn old MMO habits to learn new MMO habits.   People playing warriors (top melee) and guardians are whining about how tough it is...    I melee with with a Ranger (sword/dagger) and a Guardian.  At first it was a struggle because you'd die so fast.   But as I've unlearned my old MMO fighting and have adapted to the GW2 fighting, I've gotten better and I don't die any more often with them in melee than I do with my Ranger and Elementalist at range.  So, on Friday, I'd have said melee was broken.   Now it's Sunday and my opinion is that it's really a 'learn to play" issue.

The intial difficult throws a lot of people off.  ANet doesn't pull punches.   Most MMOs you don't die as a newbie.   Take LOTRO.   I never had a character die before Level 18 and had some make it to Level 35.   I've played WoW trial and made it to Level 20 without dying.    I play DCUO and generally don't die before Level 10-to-12 depending on the type of character.    Bottom line is ANet has no problem killing you from when you are a noob until you hit cap.   And they've always been this way.   GW1 was the same.

Other than that, typical beta issues.   Some events got broken.  Some events need a bit more variety.  Some events are too hard.   Some are too easy.   Not all the main story quests are done (they're all voiced, but some of the voices haven't been done, kind of weird when YOU are talking, but the other guy is text...).   There were no banks.   Crafting might not have been fully implemented (making 8-slot bags/boxes/packs didn't require the some of the mats that were implied by what was in the NPC store).

The first day was log-in hell.   Some personal story instances wouldn't spawn on the first try becaues the servers were over-loaded in the rush.   By day 2 all that went away.

Login issues = epic fail... lol

What i think its funny is that when someone defend what they like is instantly called fanboy by those who bother to spend all day at a forum not to talk about the game they like, but to trash a game they never played... lol

I would be raging too if i couldnt log in after spending 70 euros on a game.

You pay that for the game, and if you pre purchase you also can join the betas.. Dunno about you but i always expect problems in a beta.

But well, what you just said as nothing to do with what i said. I mean ppl that dont even bought the game, never played and spend all day here just to say any other game they never played sucks.
