I did not pay for the beta, it was extra, I paid for a game.

If you bought it for the beta... well.

In email it was clearly mentioned.

Want to play in beta? pre purchase Guild Wars 2 now!

With marketing language like that you can't blame people when Anet itself openly selling beta to potential players.

It says prepurchase GW2, not GW2 beta.  I do blame people when they fail to read, comprehend or trollling at small little things which makes no senses to normal people.

No it just doesn't say pre purchase it says 'want to play in beta.?' if yes pre purchase today. They were offering guaranteed beta spots for buying the game..remember not pre ordering but paying full price up front.

Maybe you should take your own advice regarding comprehension.

Anymore problem?

You did not buy the right to test the game, you bought the game itself, which will be delivered once it's ready, and you knew this perfectly well. There are absolutely no grounds on which you can possibly complain about this at this point. You bought the house, and as a bonus, you got the keys to the building, which is currently being furnitured and under construction. ANet did not have to give you these keys at all. Did you get into the beta of Skyrim? Or Mass Effect 3? No? And yet you bought the games *before* trying it! In the case of GW2 the game will be delivered much later, but the same logic applies. You should be lucky to even get in so early and look up the definition of "beta".

I can't believe people are saying they didn't pre-purchase to play the beta, but to just buy the game, that is absolute b****x!

If they didn't give you beta entry with your purchase, you wouldn't have paid for it, and 99% of other people wouldn't have either.

You reading minds now?

I NEEEEDDD you to go through posts and threads before the announcement of this prepurchase beta was announced. Seriously, do that.  Count the hundreds and thousands of times peopel have said they can't wait to pay for this game.  This was before a beta.

There is proof of this, look back at the threads.

Even in my own personal budget, we set outside our guild wars 2 money at launch, including the money to build a new system.

So yeah, this game got people that excited that even without the promise of anyting but a game, people were ready to prepurchase it.

Sure, there are other folk who had beta testing as an incientive for buying, but no one paid for a game just to test it out.  Testing it out is a privedge of prepurchasing and for many, just an added bonus that most game companies don't do.

Yep, i'm a mind reader, and you're still talking rubbish.

A bonus or a priveledge? i think it was there to get your money, simple as that.

Don't get me wrong, i love the game, and have been playing all weekend.

But seriously, get real please.

Yes...using 'guaranteed beta spots as an highlight to push more boxes off the shelf'. Yes game would have sold regardless but one can not ignore the way they put beta in fore front as a reason to pre purchase.

So yeah beta wasn't just a perk or bonus but main reason to pre purchase for many players. Anet was selling it, players bought it.

You are talking like people can't make up their own mind and Anet brainwashed them . I bought the product, so seller need to to inform me what i am getting. If the boxes would have been sold regardless, then what differences does this make?

Anet sold their game, people bought the game. Period.

I dont think people should have to pay full price in advance to play a starting area demo. You can say "no" if you dont like it.  Like I did. I might buy it after release...

I can agree that it is rather bad business etics to try to sell a product with no release date. But adults should not fall for that. If they dont like it but pay anyway they have no reason to complain.  If you feel like that you made a mistake and it was a bad choice.

Don't create a strawman because that is not what i said. I am simply talking about people saying beta was nothign more than a perk or bonus where as the marketing used by Anet suggest otherwise.

Rest is you trying to put words into my mouth.

I don't see an issue with a company marketing their product. Obviously the consumer can decide whether or not they want to buy it.

People often buy houses they can't move into for months because of various reasons. Still being built, people still living there, etc.

Don't buy it now if you don't want to. You can get it later when it's built if you want to.

I don''t have to know how to make a better game, I only need to know where the "CANCEL" button is!

Maybe it was all those folks who paid hundreds of dollars for beta keys on ebay.

Beta access is one of the selling points of pre-purchase game.  I think you expect to be wowed  by the beta, and fact is a bunch of folk just feel ripped off by the hype.

For me this Beta weekend had been an absolute desaster. Out of two days trying to get into the game I have managed to actually play for a full hour, and that happened to be at 4am this morning.

The forums are full of people suffering a wide variety of technical problems. In other betas you may have had 2 or 3 main technical problems which the dev team can concentrate on, here there seem to be dozens of different problems going on at the same time.

Technically this game is not even at an acceptable beta stage and I regret having given Anet my money already now as the inability of the tech team to deal with all those problems does not bode well for release.

omg... come on. you needed to create a topic about this?

maybe you should ask yourself why you bought it then?

no one forced and the it said buy now and get beta access... please leave the testing to people how knows what it means to beta test

I believe all the people with problems are in the minority.....either bad PCs or ISPs.   Just because your having a problem doesnt mean this is their fault.  I havnt had a single issue except when the servers actually went down to do an update or restart.

Stop blaming other for your mistakes,  NEVER lay out money for something that you wont put your own foot in your mouth for if things dont work out for you.

Actually using your analogy, you buy a house and the builders tell you that you can inspect the work to date on the weekends, and then you go there and the roof is missing, the front door is jammed and there is no paint on the walls. So do you go have a big rant and rave about the house not being in a liveable state? No. Because it isnt finished yet.

Complaining about server loads and technical difficulties during a beta are stupid. Report them and let them fix it. If they still exist in the game at launch, then it becomes a problem.

For what its worth, this weekends beta was far laggier than previous ones. In fact the weekend before there was no lag whatsoever and WvWvW ran flawlessly. I think they just let in more people than the current hardware could handle. I am guessing they will sort that out for launch now they know what to expect in terms of server loads.
