Dispite its sales, how is Gw2? from what I have seen in videos myself it doesn't look all that great, looks too wow-ish for my tastes. Kinda like swtor sales were high 99% due to fanboys from what Ihave seen. Whats the level cap? How is class balance? How long before the game gets boring? (for example i was bored of tera in a day ro 2 due to how repetive it was after the combat system newness wore off) Is there any purpose to the WvWvW pvp? Like for example daoc-like skills and abilities you can learn? Is there pvp earnable gear? if so I'll probally not bother with gw2, because pvp is not fun when your just starting and you get rolled due to gear diffrencnes. Being a pessimist is a win-win pattern of thinking. If you're a pessimist (I'll admit that I am!) you're either: A. Proven right (if something bad happens) or B. Pleasantly surprised (if something good happens) Either way, you can't lose! Try it out sometime! |

too early to ask those questions...
The game is good, it's not a WoW clone, has some similarities as they are both mainstream MMOs. But GW2 feels very good, you don't get that "been here done that" its trully a new experience.
I'm not very fond of betas since i will lose everything anyway, but i just can't stop playing... the game is very interesting and has a good replayability. The pvp is somewhat casual (you can jump in as lvl 80 from the start, dunno if it'll be like this at release), the battleground at least, i didn't touched the WvW yet. The leveling is pleasing, the PVE is good, can't talk about dungeons though have not played yet, they might be hard, the game is not easy mode if you mess up you will die quite often. Graphics, art and animations are AMAZING , music and sound effects as well. Story wise i can't talk much because i'm skipping everything i don't want to burn content already, but from what i've seen it isn't that interesting. The thing i like the most is the combat, you never get bored while fighting, your mind is ever engaged and the immersiveness of the world helps a lot.
I'm hyped and happy with it, but it still has some problems. Balance issues in PVE, the DEs don't scale properly with too many people, if you Zerg a DE everything will be too easy, but still lots of people will die. The pets AI are TERRIBLE, horrid, putrid.... even mortal online does a better job with pet AI. Performance is really a issue, hope its just a beta thing. I'm running the game with a phenom II x4 and a GTX 560ti but still the frame rate drops in the main cities and crowded places.
But hey you get all that without a subscription fee, this game is going to shake some games after release. (it's already better than a hole lot, even in beta lol).

I agree with a lot of the above. The thing that captures me is the fact that in this poor beta state it is a lot more fun than any other mmo out, well at least to me. Even thinking about it as the base of what's to come. I can't fathom what content updates down the road will bring but I cannot wait to see. Will be playing this for a long time I'm thinking as their isn't much on the horizon right now.
I'm a unique and beautiful snowflake. |

Wait what? all melee skills have cast times in a pvp mmo? They need to fire the retard at arenanet that decided on that because thats a massive disadvantage in pvp, how the hell is the game this close to release yet that is still there? That thing alone is gonna stop me from buying GW2 till its fixed. SO tired of devs screwing pvp up hard in terms of ranged vs melee balance, the melee's need to have ways to snare with range, or otherwise capture a ranged target, just as a ranged target needs to be able to keep the melee away, how could Anet have screwed this up after how well done GW was. I hated GW but i never heard much about balance issues.

" In GW2 many Melee attacks have cast times, which forces you to stop moving in order to get the attack off, OR THE ATTACK WILL NOT GO OFF, AND WILL USE THE COOLDOWN ON THE SKILL. " i heard that playing a caster type.you can cast and move at the same time though and the skill will still go off,did i hear wrong? it makes no sense that a melee cant cast and move.but a caster type can, thats like reversing every mmo ive ever played in terms of mobility with classes

Originally posted by Volkon I'm playing a warrior also no problems whatsoever moving. I usually take second place in pvp and I'm an old man. I'm not totally understanding the complaints with melee vs caster. Both have advantages and disadvantages. Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not. |

*Some* skills are damage over time attacks which go off continuously until a timer expires. If you move during this the skill cancels. Such as the ranger barrage (I think that's what its called). I can't speak for other classes but I suspect they have similar abilities.

Only a very very slim selection of skills require you to stand still, such as Hundred Blades where you stay rooted but swing a greatsword in rapid succession for several seconds. The vast majority, probably 90% of skills, especially direct damage skills, in GW2 seem to be highly mobile.
no GW2 won't kill WoW, but it's time to move on and quit worrying about those people still playing it. - eyelolled |

Originally posted by Eir_S I absolutely hated greatsword warrior. Every skill felt sloppy.
What's strange is that ranger greatsword felt fluid and did, what felt like, way more damage (probably because I was actually hitting people with it). Really, greatsword/longbow ranger was one of the most OP weapon comps/classes I played. SWTOR is the greatest mmo ever! |

Originally posted by colddog04 It's not really that strange, rangers are more agile and graceful, the warrior's Greatsword skills are very barbaric and haphazard, not sure why rangers would do more damage though. Originally posted by Siveria LVL cap 80. Not sure about balance yet, Ithink I need a week or 2 to actually know that. I am not bored yet, even though I found some classes more fun than others. The thief was a blast. I personally found combat more fun that Teras but it was harder to get into as well. There is purpose about WvW, but it is more about guild status than DaoC. If it does well it will give PvE buffs to your server. ANET actually have one of the guys behind DaoC working for them... You can level up from 1-80 in the mists without any PvE at all, and players who dies might drop loot. PvP gear is balanced to all other gear of the same level. A lvl 80 PvP gear is as powerful as lvl 80 dungeon gear and standard lvl 80 vendor gear so it shouldn´t be a problem for you. It might not be exactly the same but about as powerful so if you get rolled it is your fault, not your gear. |

As a casual gamer who doen't really care for action combat, I find that I like GW1 more than GW2 at present. Only 3 days of exposure, but the combat was already getting on my nerves. Exploration would have been more cool if mob placement wasn't set up like a road block to and from every single location. Didn't help that respawns were horribly fast. Every class I played felt fragile and squishy, but like I said, I don't like action combat and circle strafing was really getting the hell on my nerves. City design and the scale of them is spot on. Love the teleport and gate system. Armor and weapon looks seem pretty cool so far, at leat till I went to the Mists and saw what level 80 PvP gear looked like, fugly! I may give it a go for one more weekend event before I completely make up my mind. It has some nice over-all features, but some of the winning selling points that others love are frankly quite annoying to me. |

As the beta started getting closer, I was super hyped! And then the day before the even began, I was so scared that I got myself too hyped and was gonna be let down. I am happy to say that it exceded my expectations! I tried out a ranger and a thief, found that I enjoyed the thief more. Dagger and pistol combo seemed to work nicely for me with a shortbow to swap for AOE. When in melee, I didnt have any cast time abilities so Im not sure what the one person is talking about.
Overall, VERY pleased with it so far, other than the few lag hiccups from the server. To be expected tho, its beta.

MMOExposed has a few things wrong. Not sure HOW he got them wrong, but yeah... Some melee attacks do root you. Most do not. Many actually move you. PvP gear is free, and you are free to customize as you wish. Structured PvP is very heavily dependant on your build as well as your skill at playing, and you will most likely get face rolled if you don't know what you are doing. If you go, you can take on 1 or 2 folks at a time. WvW is for the fun of it and for the bonuses you give to everyone on your server. Small bonuses, but bonuses nontheless. Remember this though, WvW isn't supposed to be balanced, so if you are a higher level, and you have better gear, have fun winning...1v1...you aren't really ever going to see a 1v1...loads of fun. I used to TL;DR, but then I took a bullet point to the footnote. |
