So I was reading a bit the previews of the beta here, liking all the positives I hear from the game, and hoping the negatives get fixed in time before launch, but something sounded like it cannot be possibly true.
If I understood correctly one preview basically said that the skills have fixed keybinds (numbers) so I assumed that means I cannot change them? Is this true? If it is, is there any indication that changing keybinds feature is simply locked? This would make the game unplayable for me since I havent used numbers to activate abilities in mmorpgs (or any game) for over 5 years. Please someone tell me it was just a silly misunderstanding, maybe he ment to say the icons are locked in the bar but I can change the keys I want to use to activate them? |

Negative.
You can change them. Heck I even keybinded dodge because the double movement key to dodge mechanic kinda sucks.
Also I found this game plays really really well on a controller. Combat is much more fluid with one (for me at least). Makes me wonder if ANet designed the game with a controller in mind as well as Mouse and board. |

Great, it kinda did sound like something that would make no sense, I only bought it because a GW fan said it, go figure heh.
I was actually going to ask about changing the way the dodge works but you kinda already answered. Or at least it can be changed, can it be made work in such way that I bind it for example to space bar, and if I hit space it rolls forward, but if I move to left or right and then hit space it rolls in that direction?
Thanks. |

The first thing i did was change my key binding and it works. The only issue is that the new keys don't display as "chosen" on the main menu. But when you click on the key, it does tell you what it truely is assigned to. |

The deal with controllers and this game is that most of it works really well but not everything. Pro's= Can fit all the skills you need onto a controller so you arent limited and at a disadvantage here like you are in the gazillion hotbars worth of skills MMO's. Dodging and movement are extremely fluid and IMO better than M&KB. Reaction times on a controller are lightning fast.
Con's= Precision, precison, precison! This will always be the major disadvantage to the controller. Moving a cursor is a huge pain in the ass with a thumbstick and picking out some guy moving in a crowd in pvp is WAYYYY more difficult than with a controller. Tab works fine of course but tabbing is not as quick to find your target as simply clicking them. Even targetting ground effect AE's is harder and slower but its not as big of an issue as say FPS style targetting so its ok.
Obviously some classes and weapon sets will work far far better with a controller while some will be exceedingly difficult. Dedicated healers were always the impossible to play with a controller class in other MMO's but this game doesnt have those so thats not an issue.
