I haven't looked at chat yet. However, I did notice a lot of chat in WvW.

Sure it would be a nice happy world where trade and general chats weren't full of arguing and people talking about how high they are, but it's usually not the case. The MMOs you played must have been really cool. no GW2 won't kill WoW, but it's time to move on and quit worrying about those people still playing it. - eyelolled |

Funnily enough the most i hear in chat is Rez me,or help me and it does give a nice fuzzy wuzzy feeling when u heal a fallen player and usually get a thanks, this game is prob best via teamspeak as it does get a bit mental in combat.

Originally posted by Eir_S Not wishful thinking but my actual game experince from games like Fallen Earth, Eve Online, Ryzom, SWG, LOTRO etc. there are lots of mature gamign communities out there so to generalise all MMOS and to say 'chat in games where people insult each other's grammar all day is the only other use of chat' is cynical at best. But you are right about MMOS i played, they are infact cool, maybe you should try those too. |

Originally posted by Chrome1980 That's why I don't get why people are complaining. It's a dumb complaint to say people aren't talking when most themeparks attract the kind of player you wouldn't want to talk to. It's a blessing in disguise without the disguise if you ask me. People are actually playing the game and figuring things out for themselves or asking guildies. Is the lack of chatter indicative of a poor community? No, people just don't have all the facts and run their mouths because no one's telling Chuck Norris jokes in general. no GW2 won't kill WoW, but it's time to move on and quit worrying about those people still playing it. - eyelolled |

i heard someone that said that they plan to give "megaphones" in shop for player to be able to speak like in a world channel... I hope either they dont do that... as i hate it on Free2play chinese mmos that you need one of those megaphones to say one line of chat...this is really sucky and if they gonna apply a megaphone at least i hope its a one time buy and not a megaphone with limited charges.. for me that megaphones are always the identification of cheap asian f2p games...

Originally posted by sodade21 I believe they said they were removing them after pretty much the whole world saw them and lost their collective poop.
Heck even I was like "aw hell no" when I saw then in the leak.
Chat in game seems very unused....although when it is, it's generally had decent helpful people, few trolls or jerks. It's nice. |

I do know that local chat was giving me some problems when I was able to log in (i.e. when I pressed enter the text erased and nothing happened.) On the other hand this is more or less a closed beta on a time limit so everyone is trying to see as much as they can as fast as they can. Not as much jibber jabber as an open beta would produce, which is good since most is talking is trolling in open beta. |

There's lot of chatting on my server on the local channel, notably from kids asking "PLZ REZ ME!" all in caps and of course spammed at least 10 times before they cry out "ZOMG NOBODY WANTS TO HELP I'M GONNA /SLITWRIST!". This game is 1) free without monthly fee and 2) includes heavy PvP. I don't expect a mature community anyway. I will gladly stick to my guild, which is full of mature adults, I have no interest in socializing with the random immatures of all ages who will predictably overrun the public chat channels (which they already do). |

Originally posted by LadyEuphei Good point, why would people spend their weekend in Local chat? I've seen people asking questions, one argument about someone's poor spelling, and some requests for help at garrisons, but otherwise, folks are trying to play the game before the weekend is over. I'm not in there right now because I think they're patching again, game is down for me and my friends. no GW2 won't kill WoW, but it's time to move on and quit worrying about those people still playing it. - eyelolled |

Sorry you can't pigonhole everything into your personal and subjective point of view. As far as getting real, my opinion is just as valid as yours; key word is "think." In regards to your "other post" :
I used chat, but when I did not use it it was not because of combat, it was becasue I had nothing to say; I did not have the innate urge to seek attention nor fill the "air" with noise.
The scary part is one day the world will be run by adults who were never spanked as kids and got trophies just for participating. |
