Sure there was.  Wait until the free trial that inevitably comes a while after release and play that.

Or the free weekend before launch that Eric talked about earlier.

You played a couple levels and decided that's it? Wow.

Not sure how you're ever going to buy a car.

Gameplay footage does not depicate actual gameplay.

Game was sold under the pretense that it's based upon GW free to play model.

Instead its based upon a cash shop.

Not to mention the fact that its a wow clone with zero innovation. It's city of heroes with a Guild Wars skin.

Game isn't officially launched.  Your case doesn't stand a snowballs chance in hell of winning until the game officially launches and even then, you are full of crap.  I paid for the same "game" and am getting what I was told I would get.  Explain that?

Cash shop is optional, always is in these games.  There is no mandatory aspect to it, so you have no point there.  City of Heroes bites and has copy pasta'd environments.  Sure you were playing GW2 at all?  I think you are lying.

Actually it has a very good chance.  Paypal generally favors the buyer in these cases.  And since it was a digital purchase, the seller can just disable the account.  So it it's not like he/she bought a lawn mower and caused wear and tear on it.  Also, there are enough people doing the refund via paypal that it will cause red flags.  Further if paypal wants to keep the buyer as a customer they will consider the buyer's points.  Your arguement is merely a product of your wishful thinking and a sense of how you want things to be.

Guys, saying the op would be breaching contract or computing fraud is laughable and false.

I personally wouldnt ever do this for a game unless it was a really bad case of false advertising or something, but he has every right to cancel his preorder. Nothing illegal about it.

I would bet that there is even an official way to do it through the publisher.

Here is an example: remember how you got in the head start through TOR preorders? Bioware allowed you to cancel your preorder after headscarf started but before release date and they even actually let you finish the head start. They even came out and officially said you could do this. Several forum goers around here did it.

It's called good customer service. If ncsoft isn't allowing people to cancel their preorders then they are asking for trouble.

It's not fraud to do a credit card charge back. It's called Consumer protection. It's perfectly legal and in fact banks are REQUIRED to provide th service.

It's not as if he got the game, played it for a bit, and then did this. However, even if he did do that it would be perfectly legal and well within his rights. Again, consumer protection.

And @op I would be shocked if there wasn't an official means to cancel your preorder through arenanet. Try that first before attempting a chargeback.

As I see it he couldn't wait for the free weekend before launch and then got cold feet. He is getting exactly what he paid for.

If he in some way can prove that ANET isn't giving him what he paid for he has the consumer right to get his money back, of course. But he didn't make a preorder, he bought the game to be delivered when it is ready.

If he preordered the game as some people have done he can easily cancel it (Gamestop charges 5 bucks for it) but that wouldn't have given him beta access.

OP would have gotten a chanse to try it out for free before launch anyways. At least my local gamestore does not let you return any game with some kind of code in if it is opened, that goes both for MMOs and FPS games.

For some people if a game doesn't grab them from the get go..it isn't worth their time. I don't think people needs ho force themselves to play 40 to 50 or 80 levels to realise that. And it is valid for any MMO not just GW2.

And if Paypal routinely sides with the buyer in situations where they demonstrably got what they paid for, then sellers won't accept Paypal.  People who want to take stuff without paying for it aren't the most profitable customers.

I was wondering if anybody could give me some advice so that I can get a refund through my bank.

Don't you already have a thread out about this game? http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/348924/page/1

I don't see how you can justify your claims after starting this topic http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/337440

Where was that "insight" when it came to knowing about the cash shop? That information is old news.

Why anything more then that? I wouldn't give 2 dueces on why he feels that way, nor need to coax him into staying like I want him to take a hit from a joint or he's not cool. Call is your answer.

what if a forum member suspects fraud is being done by the OP and a person wants to report it?  What if by not deleting this thread, mmorpg.com is supporting fraud?

Reaching are we? What if MMORPG mods deal with that? I can't afford a lawyer to wonder if an anonymous poster is working in the black markets.

Visa, Mastercard, American Express, <Insert way you payed here>, contact the support for the company and tell them you did not get or the product was not as described and they will refund it. Just good ol fashion credit customer policy...

That's an idiotic response, inregards to the car.  You get to test drive a car, don't use a snarky lame fallacy.   I will concede that I could have waited for a 'free trial', but wouldn't that be indicative of a bad product shortly after launch.  Not to mention one losses out on all the 'googies', because you didn't join in right away.  I played 7 levels as a human thief, and five levels as a norn warrior.  I liked the norn area the least.  The bear cubs were cute, but that's about it.

Op as many have stated to your post you are quite bonkers how the heck can u even mention F2P when A-net have been ramming B2P with cash shop down our throats for bloody ages, and i would add why would you want to miss out on this piece of gameing magic anyway and in BETA  it is still one of the best games i've ever tested/played.

It would be better for everyone involved if they cut these "open beta" marketing stunts and just had a purchase on the day.

Lol....... this is hilarious.

I certainly hope they don't refund you with these blatant lies as reasons for refund. For the others that want to refund I have nothing against you if you have a valid reason but people like the OP saying lies to get refund is not acceptable in my opinion.

OP you should link this thread to paypal for extra proof so they refund you. /sarcasm

How is it taking without paying?  It was a digital code?  NCSoft, just merely disables the game from the players acount?  I don't see where the 'taking without playing' took place.  Also, if its just one or 2 people then, no big deal give or don't give a refund.  Arenanet and paypal are essentially out nothing.  Furth paypal is very big, it funded Space X, I can assume that shooting rockets into space is fairly expensive.  So, I suspect they have a good sense of when to refund and when not to.   Now if its 1000 people wanting a refund, yeah there is something going on.   If that is the case arenanet will have bigger problems then refusing refunds.    I will admit I'm doing a refund, because I did not like the game.

Well if you take that precedent then i would made one hell of a mistake and subbed to SWTOR,as i was gettiing it even if i missed Beta  thank the Gods of reality checks, that i got to try it on a so called beta stunt  same with Rift and these tests are needed even if  we are in reality paying to stress test these games and at least i get the choice to sort the wheat from the chaff.

Probably not.  But if saying on a forum with 'Douchbaggery 'makes you feel better, then say it.   Like I said I didn't like it.  So, if its just me then I guess its just me.  And I leave you to your game.
