So my experience with MMOs is quite limited. Partly due to my internet connection. My first and only MMO thus far is WoW. It runs great (30 to 35 fps...which I don't notice anything past that)...and even on dial-up it runs just fine. I live in the desert, outside San Diego. So, my internet is limited to dial-up or satellite. Anyway...my major problem is that the game (I was able to test it briefly on a friends account), because of the huge battles and large cities...is it doesn't seem like it will be that great on my slow connection. I'm not sure if this is true, as I have not tested this...but this will put me off the game. As far as I'm aware, GW2 does not have instanced arena or battlegrounds like WoW does. The events for PvE are also large. Again, I'm not sure how it will do with my connection. But, for people with low connections, this will only slow down their game. I do give it credit...the human city and charr city are AMAZING. Best cities of any game, ever. They aren't small towns that the developers mistakingly call "cities"...these are actual cities. Another credit goes to the music and ambience...really top notch. The Engineer class is a lot of fun. I enjoyed the turrets and what not, and the Charr is an amazing race. Really like their city, too. However, I'll need to buy a new PC (as I have to turn everything down on low in just WoW and that is the least extensive MMO out there), to play GW2. But sadly, I just don't have the cash.
TLDR - Due to lack of money and GW2 requiring a higher end PC, I won't be buying it My youtube channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/TheExplorium MMORPG.com is like 4chan, but for gamers. WoW already does WoW good. PvPers that gank newbies, are carebears. They don't want a challenge (like a carebear), they just want easy mode (like a carebear) and a no challenge combat (like a carebear). |

Can anyone address the instancing and closed in feeling parts? I'm very curious about that. |

you went in expecting to hate it and came out hating it... well damn, surprise surprise. even if you weren't particularly feeling it, the point is going in with an open mind. you've biased your judgement and frankly your little write up here loses almost all of its objective quality for it. |

Except for....you purchased a copy of the game to play in the beta....If you knew you weren't going to like it...why would you buy the game just to play in the beta to 'experience' it for yourself....Rather than just wait for release? Unless, of course, you've been highly anticipating a chance to play this game like everyone else who bought into the beta....
Well, at least, unlike the other MMO's you've purchased even though you knew you wouldn't like them, you won't have to pay a monthly fee to play it....it is now yours and you can pick it up and play it any time you like, or not...It's up to you. |

'The playerbase, at least in beta, is probably the worst I've seen. Not much to say here, but full of trolls and memes and people going "lol swtor is so much better than this"...I guess that is the new thing, instead of "WoW is better" that I always saw in previous MMO releases, in this it is SWTOR.'
This realy made my day, Do you realy play the game ? I dont believe you. Becouse seriously for severals hours i played gw2 havent seen one comment like this. |

Do you know what intrigues me so far, after playing GW2 for 6-7 hours? I haven't heard a single comment about other MMORPGs. Only one time I have heard someone say "wow clone" and that was right after the start of the BWE. |

Yeah it's beta so we can't expect it to be perfect of course, but the main problem for me is the lack of world pvp. I used to enjoy it in WoW and Rift. I know that ganking is probably the main problem, but why not make it that you can only attack enemies within a certain level range of yourself?

Btw there is no general chat in gw2, so there are limited oiption for ppl to troll in game, thats why i think he completly made up his post. |

I plan on trying GW2.....right now...I have no expectations so I'll just have to see how it goes. |

I'm not sure how far the OP has gotten but I am level 5-8 on multiple characters right now and I do not feel the world is closed in at all.
Character creation is nice. I don't think there are to many "ugly' choices you can pick that really make you hate looking at your character.
Graphics are really awesome in my opinion. The details are really nice I actually stopped and had to look at a giant bull in the norn area with a cart on it's back the details were amazing. The cities are ridiculous in terms of graphic design and the size. I was looking far off into the human city and was like there is no way the city is this big so I ran all the way from one end to the other and sure as hell it was actually that big. The one down fall so far in the graphic department I'd say is the animations for the spells. They are lackluster. Now I also don't have that many skills unlocked and I don't expect to be seeing epic skill graphics at level 8 otherwise what would you expect for level 80?
Personal Story is ok. It doesn't have the story telling say ToR had but it's also quite a bit better then most of the other MMO's out to date. The voice acting is "meh' but it is still pretty decent. A lot of people I have seen complaining that they have no idea what is going on in the game are the people who are skipping the quest dialogues or just not paying attention. Nothing amazing here but it does OK.
Combat is really hard to judge this early in the game. Literally I have only my first few spells 1-6 and F1 on all the characters I've played. So you’re just basically spamming your abilities right now. I will say that learning how to use the dodge mechanic is something that will take getting use to. I died a few times in Dynamic Event fights because I was just trying to stand there spamming abilities (you can move and cast anything in the game). It has a lot of promise I think and will be especially nice in the PvP and WvWvW side of the game. I honestly enjoyed it but some people hate that it's tab target unlike say Tera Online.
Dynamic Events are awesome in my opinion. Yeah, sure they are like Rifts, Public Events (from warhammer), etc. but I enjoy how I can literally just be helping out around town and I get a message saying "new event" and you have 20 centaurs running at you trying to get over your garrison. Being everyone is just starting the areas get cluttered relatively quickly since the Dynamic Event is adjusted based off of how many people are in the event area but this won't be as much of a problem when people start becoming spread out.
It's a beta there has been people reporting lag issues and performance issues. I have a pretty high end machine I have everything maxed out and I have not suffered any of the issues some have described on the forums. My wife has a middle end machine (i7-920, Nvidia 295GTX, 4gb ram), and also had no issues what so ever. We both have the most up to date drivers by Nvidia (march 13th) and both have had zero disconnects (using Verizon fios 50 up 50 down) and almost zero FPS issues other then my wife having a few FPS drops in PVP nothing major but I did notice when I watched her play.
Personally, I find it pretty discouraging reading people on the forums bashing the game so badly and others basically saying it's perfect. It's neither terrible nor perfect (nothing ever will be) at this point. So far it's been a smooth beta after they took the servers down for 30 minutes and I love the fact that I haven't really care about my level or anything I have just been running around with my wife and enjoying the events and questing. As with most new games I'd wait until the dust settles and you see if it's really the right game for you. I have been playing MMO's since Ultima and have been trapped in the raiding treadmill for a long time now. I do not plan to stop raiding in the "other" games but I do plan on enjoying not having to schedule anything around Guild Wars 2 when it comes out. |

It's not a real MMORPG. Even less than WoW is. People are just in that hype phase, this game has been hyped above the clouds and with the amount of crap I read for the past year and a half praising this game, it deserves to have these negative opinions shouted out loud. The performance problems are obvious, and anyone shouting 'It's a BETA' is lying to themselves about it, all of these games with terrible performance have deep underlying engine problems. I WOULD BE SHOCKED if the game runs smooth at launch after what I've witnessed from beta. The developers themselves are full of it, they praise their own game as the best most innovative thing ever and it's another instanced, fast travel, dungeon queing fake MMO. Overdesigned as hell and still missing all of the points that make a game like this last longer than 2 years.

I didn't see the Swtor comment but I seen plenty of Tera,Wow, *insert next MMO here* is better it just gets old if you like them so much why are you here lol...
I don't think this community is any worse then the rest but it's still sad that we can't seem to weed out the bad.... |

Also I've been stuck mainly doing DEs the whole day and during the first 6 hours I didn't encounter a loading screen except for the one after the tutorial and whenever I chose to use a waypoint. Dunno what server the OP was playing on (if he ever actually played the game), but thus far I've played on 3 different ones and I never saw anyone commenting on another game. Actually, most people seem to be so busy enjoying the game and paying attention to the combat (so that they don't get downed) that they rarely even talk to each other which is kind of a negative. But I guess it says enough about how engaging the gameplay is.
About the community, the servers I've been on everyone's been kind, people were answering the rare question, I got resurrected every time there were people around and people were saying thanks to each other all the time. Sure you didn't stumble on the 4chan server or something?
Only real issues are problems with login (which seem to have been mostly fixed), lag and FPS drops when there are too many people. There are the occasional bugs of course, but nothing gamebreaking that I have encountered. I can say that I'm quite happy with my purchase. |

Personal story and dungeons are instanced. It matters not though because the zones are so huge you don't even notice it. Don't complain about the lag because this weekend is one big stress test so yes there will be lag because we are testing it.
