I'll start by saying that I love Guild Wars. I'm a big fan, if not the biggest.
After playing Guild Wars 2 this morning, i've come away from the game with dissapointment. This isn't revolutionary. This is City of Heroes with a Guild Wars skin and some minor upgrades.
Cartoonish graphics that don't match the quality of Guild Wars. Awful interface. Instant crappy mob respawns. No actual effect from killing mobs other than a random event every so often. The animations look as though they allowed the work experince lad to make them.
The thing that annoys me the most is that when you watch the videos of the classes. They look amazing. When you play them, they look nothing like the videos. Its a blatant lie and borders on false advertisement.
But hey.. at least we only need to pay once for City Of Guild Wars. So it's not all bad. |

Pay once? They have a cash shop, this is a free to play game except they've convinced you to buy the box as well. Owned.

Developers forgot what made mmos special. Until we get that back the genre wont move forward. |

An honest review of the game. Cant believe how these people are saying this game is good when it does nonthing new or better then any other game out there.

I disagree and agree with the OP. I agree that the game is disappointing and not revolutionary. The fanbois and gals have over hyped the game to the point where they made it seem like it was a completly different game. I hate to tell you people, it's the same as rift and warhamme combined. There are still quests, and they are the usual go kill x of y and go back to z. The dynamic events are the same as rifts, not to mention tab target. I bring those up because there are threads upon threads of people claiming there isn't anything of the sort when there is. Now i disagree with OP on the point that the game looks cartoonish, it really doesn't. Some of the mobs might, but its just the graphics they went with, the game is very pretty and looks like it would run smooth if there wasn't a billion people about. Just calling it out like so is just trying to get trolls out and starting a flame war. But it's your own opinion, just like i stated mine. I don't hate this game, i just don't like it. I never followed the hype or got to hyped up about it, but everything people have hyped up has fallen flat. I will probably buy this game when its on the cheap, not worth 60bucks, nor am i telling anyone not to play it. If you like it, go for it, but this isn't the paradise you think is. |

I never really expected it to be "revolutionary." I have not seen any evidence that would cause me to buy into that line of thinking.
That being said, I doubt I will be disappointed because my hype meter has never been turned up to 11 like many fans of this game. I still haven't played it so I'm not stating actual opinions of the game, just my hype-o-meter perception. The game will be good, possibly even great, but I never believed for a second that it was the revolution that some claim it to be. One thing that's freaking me out though is the cash shop. When I heard "selling bag space" I cringed a little. Makes me think of cryptic. Shadow's Hand Guild The Secret World - Dragons Planetside 2 - Terran Republic Tera - Dragonfall Server |

You forgot the questing wich to me obviously feels like a same old themepark but better covered up. even when talking to an npc you dont have any options to choose from and your own character just says something you might not even agree with to keep the story going. |

Everyone else is just enjoying playing the game because it genuinly is really good fun. I cannot stress this enough. Sure it has technical issues presently but like every MMO released before or since you have to give the benefit of the doubt that the problems will be fixed before release. Bare in mind that this game isn't set to come out anytime soon. It's not as if launch is looming and there is no time left to fix things. |

I prepurchased knowning what I got, and I got what was marketed to me. I enjoy my Beta experience after all the error codes that finally got fixed this morning. All the press videos shown you exactly what the graphics was like, it was not a lie. Was it revolutionary, I believe it is to me. Because its the first game that I can finally explore the world and get quests that pops. I did see alot of players staying at one place, continously doing the same exact thing over and over, but once i separate from them, and explored more of the available map, I found more events, more quests and more things to do. the one thing that I learned is YOU HAVE TO BE ACTIVELY EXPLORING, if you don't explore or hate exploring, then this game is not for you. Because none of the quests comes to you, you have to stumble on them. Life is a Maze, so make sure you bring your GPS incase you get lost in it. |

Well, don't judge a game on the beta experience. They are still testing stuff and the first public BWE will get them tons of feedback and statistics.

I was talking about the act of prepurchasing rather than the game. Regardless of how good or bad a game becomes, there are valid reasons for why it is better to wait and avoid prepurchasing. Significantely more access to information, is one of them. The only thing you lose by waiting is, well practically nothing unless you belong to the generation NOW. |

When will people stop waiting for the second come of Christ in MMOs ? The game never said it would be revolutionary. But you can't deny it's not your usual MMO template. ***** Before hitting that reply button, please READ the WHOLE thread you're about to post in ***** |

I'd surprised if you could find one as I try to be as tolerant as I can for people and their choice of games. If I have though then I'll apologise profusely. Your post however strikes me as rather petty. So you think it's ok to 'bash' one persons game, simply because a different person bashed yours? Why not be the bigger person and just let people enjoy what they want to enjoy? The way some people act on these forums it's almost as if this game (and others before it) were made by the devil himself. It being their personal crusade to ensure it receives the required hate. Course they completely ignore that these games are made by real people, who's only crime was attempting to make a good game that other people might enjoy. The nerve! :p |

This is BS. This game has always been hyped as the mmo that the genre needed and it would be different from everything else. There is a video from ArenaNet them selves saying this. Why make a post like this now when you have been reading all these hype threads for years from people claiming this would be the holy grail but you just let them do it?

After the VAST amount of hype surrounding GW2 and being told by the fans how revolutionary GW2 will be it is definitely disappointing.
