The textures are kind of blurry and the combat seems too spammy or arcade-like. I think it will be fun for a few months, but I don't see this having any real longevity. The dynamic events are neat, but in reality don't seem that much different from WAR's PQ's or the rifts in RIFT. How many times can you do the same dungeons or the same DE's? PvP will keep people busy for awhile, but I think people will burn out on it after some time. I also think the majority of the people will be turned off in the end by the horizontal progression. As much as people like to tell themselves they don't play for the shiny objects, I really think they do.

No it's not depth of field, i know what you talk about. I trully mean the textures looks bad. And it still looks bad when i turn it off.

Clarifications : - the game can be played as spammy, as GCD is very short (thank god, I hate long GCDs), but believe me, when you'll be at high lvl (pve or pvp), you won't want to spam your skills, or you'll constantly lose to enemies. I'm only lvl 9 thief, and I already have to make skill choices and weapon swaps in order not to die against more than 2 mobs of my lvl. Plus traits choices and builds that can make every decision count, this game is definitely not spammy, unless you didn't care to search for efficiency and minmaxing (which is the main point of mmo combat btw). - zones are indeed huge. I've played for 8 hours now, 2 zones, and 30 minutes ago I just zoomed my map out. My jaw just dropped when I saw that those 2 huge zones, with tons of things to do inside of it, were as tiny as maybe 5% of the whole map surface. Plus, I really took my time to do every quests, explore, search for events, and my stats say : "World discovery : 2%". 2%. lol ***** Before hitting that reply button, please READ the WHOLE thread you're about to post in ***** |

You are right that some people indeed just play for shiny objects but the more competetive PvP players really don't, they play to win, not to loot. I can tell you how long I actually will play the game right now, but I played GW on and off for 5 years. I think this is at least as good as the games with monthly fees so if they don't mess up the cashshop I think I will spend a lot of time in it. But as with GW it is not unlikely that I play other games on the side. |

The game is literally mash buttons for the first 7 levels. Once you get weapon swapping the difficulty in mobs in the level areas rises. You get mobs that hit harder and aggro EVERYTHING around them. It's insane. Playing as an elementalist it's really amazing which attunements are really worth using in certain situations.
I currently use fire when I have other players around me so I can AoE everything while being protected. Air attunement has an insane amount of control and protection from projectiles it's not even funny. I use it the most in general, and when 1v1 or soloing mobs who use pistols/arrows.
Earth is amazing and I use it to kite/solo veteran mobs. It has good control (knockbacks, blinds) just like air but lightly more defensive. Decent damage but it's very sustained and not much burst.
I don't fancy water at all. I haven't used it much at all. LOL. Scepter + dagger = amazing.
Now to first impressions. I really wish they did cutscenes for the personal story ala SWTOR. Right now they're REALLY lacking and I don't find myself insterested in the story at all. The game -- overall -- is really refreshing but I don't really get a feel that it's DIFFERENT for some reason. I like it... but I'm not as excited as I used to be now that I've actually played it.
Dynamic events are hit or miss with me. Some -- like that guard quest in the Garrison -- happen way to often. I usually take the time to beat up mobs to either get new skills on a weapon I just got or to just get a better understanding of the skills and I had that dynamic event repeat FOUR times in the time that I was there. Some dynamic events are also stupid hard to solo -- noticed this happening past level 8.
I feel like SOME dynamic events don't happen enough. I've actually only had the bandit strike dynamic event happen ONCE across 5 different characters. 4 of those characters I was in that area for like 15 minutes because it was so croweded I couldn't get the heart objectives really quickly.
Overall the the game is good. Not great. But good enough. |

Originally posted by Loke666 You're right bro. I watched my wife, who was in a top 50 raiding guild in WoW, run the same dungeon for weeks. The only thing is that they were there trying to get the loot or world firsts and up their guild ratings. If everyone gets loot every time and it only takes a few runs to do it, then what is left for that type of person. They won't keep doing the same thing without a reason. I personally don't raid and play mmos for the crafting, market, and some exploration portions. I'll run a dungeon a few times to see everything, but after that only for crafting materials or things to sell. I just don't see the staying power of this game for the average person. There isn't a subscription so it is great as a filler game. |

Love the DE system, the combat and just so impressed with the sheer amount of detail put into the game. Just the last 3 hours or so I just explored Norn starting area, parts of Divinity's Reach and Lion's Arch. There were technical problems like mobs sliding across the ground and choppiness in game performance, but for me it was easy to overlook these problems and I am confidentAnet will fix these issues up before launch. From what I have seen so far, Anet definately nailed it with GW2.
Just want GW2. |

Now that my FPS numbers are better and the game is running smoother I can appreciate it more. Starting to really get into it. Divinity's Reach is truly awesome and put's the other cities to shame IMO. I might roll human on release just due to the city.
I am getting super smoother 96 FPS using my adaptive VSync on my 4-way SLI GTX 680 setup in Surround in PvP mini-games. GPU's are still only being used 30-40% but as long as it's smooth I don't care.
I really like the Ranger class but I fear far too many people will play it. :( |
