Beta Weekend Event Reviews & Impressions (Archived)  » Forget the graphics issues or lag. The quest level scaling is horrendous and needs to be adjusted significantly.

A major problem right now is the way the quests are scaling. It doesn't really matter if it is a solo story quest or a group event, the quests range from medium hard to just stupid hard where you die over and over. Another major issue, let's say for example we have a quest that is level 10. Well we get a bunch of people who are nowhere near level 10 and usually around the 3-7 range. These people obviously can not contribute but they make the quest much harder for the people near 10.

 

I made a charr character and right outside in the northern area of the starting area you have to kill a shaman. Well the shaman was level 6-8 or so but everyone there was level 2. It probably took about 30+ minutes for people to actually kill it. Same thing for the ghost vault in the second area with 4 bosses.

 

I don't really see how this one little beta weekend is going to fix this issue as they would need to go through many quests to adjust the scaling.

Edit:  ok, i'm pretty sure my last comment could be seen as trolling, so I'll just delete it, and say that I was watching a live feed of this and didn't really see anyone have these types of problems you were encountering.  It was in the Charr area.

You guys are doing it wrong...it's not that hard.

 

Pleas don't start calling for nerfs already =(, let's not make this thing about the lowest common denominator.

The scary part is one day the world will be run by adults who were never spanked as kids and got trophies just for participating.

I had the same impression when I watched earlier beta footage from march. But it could also be that they do this on purpose to allow new players to learn the game, at least we have only seen like the first 15% of the leveling experience. But I would agree in general.

There is always some tweaking to be done, that's what beta's for ^_^

As for the difficulty, speaking from my personal experience, i've never played a game that involved stratedgy such as guild wars 2 will take, mostly because of dodging. MMO-wise, anyways. So i expect alot of people just getting started, what, not even 12 hours ago, will have to preform some learning. I welcome the challange. I think that's one of the things mmo's are missing, a little challange, a chance of real failure. Otherwise it gets boring fast.

Seriously... making changes to the NPC difficulty is not that hard. It's nothng compared to balancing classes.

If that's all you have to worry about at this time, you need to chill a little.

There isn't even an official release date yet. That kind of insinuates that Arenanet aren't going to release until it's ready. Not like some other studios under pressure to release at Christmas.

Things like this are easily fixed, unlike inherent flaws with the engine they're using, or the overall game-plan.

Give it a chance fellas.

Group events are very hard now. but part of the problem are performance issues and lag spikes which make it very hard to mitigate dmg with moving and dodging. I play guardian and I don't have any long range options so it's so frustrating to die time after time. Still I somehow manage to move forward =P

It's not challenging because the content is challenging, it's challenging because lowbies swamp the questing area making the mobs scale beyond what everyone can handle.

If you somehow end up doing a quest by yourself or with a couple others, it's really easy.

Well, the last test people complained the game was too easy...so this one is harder.  Devs said that a few weeks ago.  I enjoy the difficulty but I haven't gotten that far.

Please don't ruin this game for everyone just because you suck at it. Too many MMO have gone the way of the noob.
