Whats your impression?

It's rather odd the performance is so bad considering devs said if people were running guild wars they should have no problem with this game and let's be honest that is far from the truth. It's pushing a system more than Battlefield 3....

I'm no fanboy by any stretch of the word, but it would appear that the servers are over-loaded atm. Hence all of the afore mentioned problems.

This is not an Open Beta GEEZ, this only the first BETA WEEKEND EVENT, henc it's still in Close Beta. BWE will continue until the game is fully optimized and there will be NO OB at all. Get your facts straight please.

It's not optimized, they said that, but the perfomance didn't suddenly drop from the last events from all i heard. Also, i played structured PVP the last few hours. Yes, it does lag, sometimes it stops completely for a minute or something. But most of the time it's not noticeable. No idea about my ping, or FPS, didn't check. Also: Nobody paid for beta. You paid for the game. Anybody who says he paid for beta should have to pay again if you want to play after launch - you didn't buy it after all. I'll wait to the day's end when the moon is high |

I have 2 different impressions: 1. Finally got in after 30 minutes, made a norn warrior. Had no lag whatsoever, game was running fine, did some DEs, visited Hoelbrok and LA. Then I crashed, might be because my AMD decided to boot out a raid disk. Total playtime about 2 hours, got 1 lag spike. 2. After fixing my drive I made a human thief. Suddenly I got horrible lag and the game was close to unplayable. Got kicked out 3 times and decided to call it for tonight. It really felt like 2 different games and was rather confusing. I played on Far shiverpeaks. All settings except shadows were maxed out and I had no problem running the game whatsoever, it looked great. The login server was really annoying, as was the lag in Shaemoor. |

Well plays fine for me I7 FTW, only issues are connecting but i expected as much. But given the huge volume of traffic straining the servers its not suprising.
Game runs fine once i'm in, Everything on max with steady FPS, except with large groups and aoe going on. Overflow system seems to be working well. I do however wish they implemented the guest feature so you could play with friends :(.
But I know for myself that the game is worth the money with 30-minutes to an hour of play i've done. p.s. My main is now going to be a thief there awesome =D |

Originally posted by EduardoASG You sir, did not play in the AoC beta. I spent 4 hours to get the patcher working there, another 2 to log in and once I logged in it had more bugs than the temple of Doom. Not to mention that most items hadplaceholders and many of the quests didn't work. and that was Tortage, the place known to be far more polished than the rest of the game. I actually thought this would be worse. It is a beta, if the game still have issues at launch I will be furious, now I just get slightly annoyed on the logging server. |

Well, that is why it's called "beta test".
Holy Trinity who art in our MMORPGs! Blessed be thy speccs, as in WOW so in all MMOs! Our daily loot grant us, and forgive us our noobness, as we forgive the noobs! And do not lead us to disconnects, But deliver us from mediocrity, For thine is the specialization and the teamwork and the endgame, Until cancellation, Amen! |

From what Ive heard from people in game. It seems that the high end video card chipsets are having problems running the game. For example my GTX 460 runs the game perfectly on max settings with no graphics. whilst a person with a 580 has a laggy mess. Ive heard rumors that the game has been optimized yet and thats why it works for some people and not for others.
On a positive note ive personally found the game really fun. Its lived up to my expectations but Im also fairly easy to please haha. I imagine some critic is going to find some way to complain though.
For those that are upset, dont be. Closed beta are for fixing problems. It would be rage worthy if it was like this at release but like others have said. Its the first CLOSED beta weekend for those that have prepurchased. Stuff will break.
Best wishes Saint |

Originally posted by Stalkerous Ah, didn't know they were so behind in optimization and overall performance. I thought their justification was in the same regards as other devs where performance is usually blamed on it being a beta and on release performance really only ends up improving very slightly like for example AOC. But I trust Arenanet and do believe they will smooth the issues by release, was just a little surprised by how bad it was. |

the lag is worring. It's impossible to dodge for me or even use abilities when I have 1 sec lag. I died a lot of time to mobs b/c of it. Let's hope it will improve tomorrow.

Turning your settings down will help out a lot with the problems you mentioned. I'm running a 955 and a GTX 480 and the game's beautiful at medium settings--getting 35-45 fps and only occasional lag spikes (servers are getting owned)...but it's what you'd expect from an unoptimized game. 40 FPS is very playable and will do the trick for now. However, given the system requirements, I expect that we'll both be maxing this game on release. Cheers.

I have a fairly mid range system (i5, 6870 with 1 gig VRAM, 8 gigs of ram) and excluding the first de I played with 80+ people in it, the game's run beautifully 55+ fps according to xfire on near max settings. I feel for you though, and hope they can roll out more optimizations over the course of the weekends.

Played it on max setting with no problems what so ever. Nividia GTX 465, i7-920 OC 4.0Ghz, 6Gb of Ram. I don't think my PC is great by any means, but it sure is handling it well. And server problems usually occur in Beta and continue to about a week after release. That said, the game is fun. Which is something I rarely say about mmo's. It's not even about leveling at times. Sometimes I'll find myself just doing some of the quests to learn the story. Other times, to figure out combos in skills. I have to say, so far the community is awesome too. I haven't heard any idiots ranting about WoW clones, whale penors, or asking why there's bugs in the beta. So far.
