SWTOR as a Nexon game would be hilarious. Free to play with a pay to win cash shop. Might make more money that way than the current method of giving away free game time. |

Originally posted by Lobotomist Based on everythign I've seen (and unless they spent a lot more than $200MM), in the very worst case TOR broke even 3-4 months after launch. Some MMORPGers love to hate on ToR, but it's nowhere near the disaster they try to make it out to be. It's quite likely that at this point it's a profitable game (depending on how large the live team is compared to the launch team, of course.) |

This is hilarious, but I'm not sure I approve. EA is a terrible company, but so is Nexon. Nexon's growing far faster than their staff can handle it, and with every new game they acquire, their customer/technical/in-game staff and support take a hit in quality.
I also don't want to exchange one giant for another. At least now, though, all the people talking about how those casual (maplestory) and instanced (everything else of nexon's) games are crappy, unpopular and worthless can see just how much revenue they are building for Nexon. Their selection overseas isn't dramatically different. "Forums aren't for intelligent discussion; they're for blow-hards with unwavering opinions." |

With the wide expanse that is EA, I don't think Nexon would know what to do with it, or how to manage it. Likely, if this were to happen, EA would be dismantled for its IPs. In the event EA stil worked independantly, I think, business wise, it wouldn't be as profitable in the western market, not because of the way the games would change (thought that might be part of it) -- but EA in recent years has started to branch out, to ramp up their partner programs.
Say what you will but the partner program is something that I'm looking forward to, as a developer, even if I don't ever plan on utilizing it. It shows that EA is willing to invest in other kinds of projects that are a little out of the norm and to take chances. I think the industry needs more of that. |

Let's hope they fire all of EA management. That way at least some good will have come of this, before things take a turn for the possibly worse.

Originally posted by Lobotomist Stupid comments like these make me laugh. i am no fan of EA but you think one game would bring stock of EA down? do you even know how stock works? EA has lots of games under its belt. Today if EA shuts down SWTOR it wouldn't even put a dent in their bank balance. You remind me of arm chair stock analyists who said FFXIV will make SE banktrupt or destroy their stock. lol |

I wouldn't let Nexon within an inch of my wallet or credit cards. Say what you will about EA, I've never been fleeced by them. Google Nexon + ripoff and then tell me they can be any worse than EA.
Not that I'm saying EA isn't a bag of ass, just that yes, it can get worse. |

Purchase, dismantle & discard. Live by the sword...a lot of ex-employees of other companies would like to see EA treated similarly. But meh, there ain't no justice. -Nearly every single bad trend in MMO development was started by the developers.--Wordiz |

I dont get it. Whats with all the hate for Nexon? Their game have cash shops, yes, but is that the reason people are crying bloody murder? I'm really curious as to what they've done to make people so angry. Does it have anything to do with them being an Asian company? EA's business practices I'm a bit more familiar with. I want them to crash and burn primarily for what they're trying to spark with the pre-owned game market. Even if I will miss SSX, its a sacrifice I can live with. |

Originally posted by FrostWyrm I wouldn't say I hate Nexon, but they haven't exactly released much that I've cared about. Shattered Galaxy was an old favorite (fun despite a plague of problems) and Atlantica was an interestingly unique game whose grind forced me away. Apart from that everything I've played from them has been pretty bad. Meanwhile EA provides games I absolutely love (Mass Effect) and games I have considerable fun with before quitting (ToR, Warhammer stuff, Dragon Age, Battlefield, Dead Space, Reckoning.)

Originally posted by Axehilt I'd like to see your math on that. If you're thinking that 1.7+ million sales x $60.00+ each = around 102 million+ profit, you'd be very wrong. For every $60.00 copy they sell at Walmart, Gamestop, etc., the store takes a big chunk of that, then there are marketing and distribution costs, taxes, paying the swtor dev crew, etc. etc. etc.. If you're honestly thinking they've made 200+ million in pure profit off that game already, I'm not sure how you could have come to that conclusion. |
