I have said it before, I think Blizzard could make some extra revenue if they maintained a few Vanilla and TBC servers. I would pay $4.99 a month to play either one! Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not. |

Wouldn't say it was my favorite, but man Vanilla WoW was really a blast. I quit after BC came out, but I have to admit Blizz does know their shit when it comes to smooth gameplay. My fav MMO of all time is and has always been DAOC, SWG in a very close 2nd. And yes, all forms of SWG, not just pre-cu, I loved it all, but I was mostly a merchant type so alot of the changes never hurt me any. DAOC of course for its RVR, best out of any game out there, and I still play it today. |

Vanilla WoW is the game which made me quit all other games. For the WHOLE duration of the original WoW I never played another game. All my gaming time was spent playing WoW and it was always a blast to play. Then I moved on to other MMOs and was seriously not impressed. Someone said that WoW reused a lot of the scenery in the different zone and then went to talk about how EQ and DaoC were amazing in that respect. Excuse me but EQ was the very definition of reused stuff. The world wasn't even handcrafted whereas WoW's was. |

I played EQ for 5 years before trying Vanilla WoW.....I always found it a little too easy....It was a nice change and was fun to see different graphics in a fantasy world, but I was never all that immersed in WoW......I remember racing to level 50 in no time, then asking some friends "what do we do when we're capped?"...THey said "Then we get to grind endlesssly for gear!"....It was at that point that I really lost interest and started looking at other games. |

My best times spent with WoW started with "vanilla" WoW through the days prior to Wrath of the Lich King. Once WotLK hit, I gradually lost interest. I liked some aspects of WotLK, but overall, it wasn't enough to keep me interested. I returned a bit for Cataclysm, and once again, some aspects caught my attention, but overall it just wasn't enough to keep me around. I honestly think the "achievement" system screwed things up. Our raiding guild fell apart when someone got it into their head that they wanted "server firsts" for random raid achievements, and started disregarding some of our established raiders (and longtime FRIENDS), and recruited complete strangers to take their places. I wasn't one of those that got "benched", but after a while it was too painful to console my friends that had been forced to sit out various encounters... people that had already been raiding with us for years. P.S. That guild never did get any server firsts after they "cleaned house".

Originally posted by Nadia WoW was never capped at level 50 :) And it took quite a bit to get to max level in vanilla. @Theocritus, you completely missed the point of the game. Did you just grind mobs to level up in EQ cause that's what EQ was about right? Race to max level (takes about a million hours longer than WoW) by killing a hundred billion mobs and then grind for gear. |

Originally posted by fivoroth If you go and play Everquest today you'll think WoW just ripped it off so hard. However go and play EQ back before WoW was released and it's clear to see that they played very differently, I mean you could say Half-Life ripped off Doom... that's about as close to how they played. The funny thing is however it's EQ that has copied WoW and tried to bring itself closer to how WoW works. Every MMO I play now tries to emulate the WoW style of gameplay, EQ was a totally different beast before WoW. |
