I hope GW2 will actually PROVE it's possible to run a AAA title without a monthly sub.

BE GONE WITH SUBS  .. i welcome cashshops without game advantages.

They don't need to prove it because we all know that it's possible. The cash shop has the potential to make a bigger profit than subs, especially when they start selling content.

Especially when they start selling time savers and boosts I would say. If they sell boost that lasts 1 hour and cost 1$ it will be very good from a business POV. Imagine if you can buy and use 4, 5 or 6 boost at the same time. That would mean $6/hour and $60 for a ten hour session. Min maxing power gamers that are rich, that can afford it and think its worth it may spend that much. Others with less real money(or more sense) will sometimes use it. And will often spend way more than $15/month....

I fully agree there is potential for bigger profit than subs. But how can that be good for players that will spend more money and make that bigger profit possible? Like the typical min maxing power gamer with more money than sense. Or sometimes with no selfcontrol overspending without thinking.

Because the cash shop give you the option of pay if you want... You aren't forced to pay nothing in order to play the game, and you can play forever without the cash shop and at the end the guy who buy gems everyday and you will have the same gear, etc...

Most games with a CS works like that. Its much better and more profitable to sell boost and time savers compared to gear. But there must be reasons for players to want to use the CS. And spend enough money...

You pay to have more fun really. Like people that hate grind and are prepared to pay to avoid it as much as possible. Or that think its more fun to kill mobs if they use a stat and xp boost. Mobs die faster + xp-bar moves faster = more fun to play.

I don't think so.

That's the point of a boost.

No really.

I have been playing HoN for about 7+month and I find the money I have spent on the CS worth it, no like the money I spent on subs on other games, why? Because I pay because I want to, no because I have to, that's the simple different.

If you hate to grind you will have to pay to avoid it. We play to have fun. What other reason could there be? Someone that have no tolerance for grind at all and think its very boring will not play a "grinder game". But if he/she can spend money to skip all that boring grind he/she may be able to have fun and enjoy that game. But that person would actually pay because he/she have to. Because the other option in this case would be to not play the game at all.

You answer yourself.

Why would you buy an mmorpg if you hate leveling (any rpg in general...)

If you hate grind, don't play a game that has grind.

If you can stomach some grind, up to a certain threshold, don't play games that cross it.

If you don't want to pay for boosts, but can't enjoy the game without them, don't play the game.

Yeah, it really is that simple.

Got the email from Arenanet with link to beta. It is asking for the email/user ID and password which I created after prepurchased and registered the GW2 account. I have the userID but WHAT password are they talking about? I registered the prepurchase but there was no password requirement for that accept for the beta KEY they provided. any advice? I need to download the Beta client please.

It depends on the leveling. It will not feel like a grind in all mmorpg:s. But in a CS game that depends on people buying time savers/convinience items a lot of things will feel like a grind. For a lot of players that normally dont like "grinders" at least. Enough players must think there is a reason to visit the CS and spend money. Profit depends on that.

The idea of DE is to reduce the grinding feeling.

I will disagree with you here, why mmorpg P2P are based on a grinding system? simple because they need to keep people on the game for as long as possible. That's why you cannot get a full set in 1 month even if you play 24h a day, I haven't heard if guild wars 2 have any limit on the karma, or number of times you can kill a boss weekly. Just like the P2P games does, daily quest, valor/honor limit per week, locked on dungeons or raids, etc.

Some people like that system, I don't... That's why I'm looking for GW2

Of course, go ahead and look at all the crap that gold can buy you. The most expensive I believe will be the commander position for WvW and PvE along with prestiege.

Down with legalized cheating and unfairness! Down with cash shop in a $60 game!

Remember, gold buying is illegal in other online games for a reason. Gamers, rise up like we did in Operation Rainfall! Except this time against companies trying to squeeze more cash out of us! Enough with on the disc DLC and cash shops in non F2P games. It's time we as gamers take a stand! Arenanet needs to fight the gold farmers instead of becoming the gold farmers themselves to profit. They haven't fought the farmers yet and yet they implement legalized RMT? Backwards.

Kudos to the heroes who reported Capcom for having on disc DLC to the better business bureau. You can be a hero too! Complain about gems and the cash shop in every feedback form you get, and on the official beta forums.

I seriously doubt you have though this through.  While I agree that cash shops in pay to play games is nothing short of a rip-off (looking at you blizzard), this is a buy to play game.  In the long run your sixty dollars is not going to last very long when you consider what it takes to keep good quality servers up and running and a nearly 300 person development team employed building new content all the while paying for all of those excessive taxes being forced on us.

Unlike Capcom, ArenaNet has not engaged in false advertising to sell thier game.  They have been very open about almost every aspect of the game including the cash shop.  Now if there really are items in the cash shop that violate what we have been told about what will be in the shop, then complain.  If however they actually live up to thier word and are not turning the game into a pay to win game, then there is nothing to complain about.  In other words think about what your are complaining about and it's function.

What? Driving over the speed limit is illegal too.  I haven't seen many people thrown in jail for that, merely fined. It is considered trademark infringement.
